The Easter weekend is within sight,

0:00:030:00:04

and by then, the weather pattern across the UK

0:00:040:00:06

could look very different from what we've seen recently.

0:00:060:00:09

Throughout most of March,

0:00:090:00:10

our weather has been characterised by dry,

0:00:100:00:13

often rather chilly conditions.

0:00:130:00:15

One constant has been this high pressure

0:00:150:00:18

very close to our shores for quite some time,

0:00:180:00:20

bringing with it cloud and areas of sunshine, too.

0:00:200:00:24

Sunday is the spring equinox, so days get longer than nights.

0:00:240:00:29

Not all of us will see some sunshine on Sunday.

0:00:290:00:32

Some places will. Central, southern Scotland,

0:00:320:00:34

particularly Northern Ireland,

0:00:340:00:36

and perhaps northern England in some areas.

0:00:360:00:38

Further south, it may brighten up from time to time,

0:00:380:00:40

but on the whole, there'll be a lot of cloud.

0:00:400:00:42

Temperatures, again, Sunday, under the cloud, 8 degrees or so.

0:00:420:00:45

Some sunshine, 11 or 12.

0:00:450:00:48

As we head into the evening and overnight,

0:00:480:00:50

those cloud breaks may start to shift a little bit further south

0:00:500:00:53

into Wales, through the Midlands, eventually into southern England.

0:00:530:00:56

At the same time, more cloud comes into Scotland

0:00:560:00:58

and we could, again, see a little bit of light rain or drizzle.

0:00:580:01:01

So the colder weather slips further south overnight into Monday morning,

0:01:010:01:05

or across the Midlands, towards Wales and the West Country,

0:01:050:01:08

there could be the odd mist and fog patch as well.

0:01:080:01:10

Essentially, though, we've still got high pressure

0:01:100:01:12

just about in charge across the UK.

0:01:120:01:14

It's beginning to show signs of slipping away.

0:01:140:01:17

These weather fronts are very weak.

0:01:170:01:19

They're transporting more cloud southwards across the UK,

0:01:190:01:22

so there may be some early sunshine across southern parts of England,

0:01:220:01:25

then that will fill in during the afternoon.

0:01:250:01:27

On the whole, by the afternoon, most places will be rather cloudy.

0:01:270:01:30

Much more cloud for western Scotland and for Northern Ireland.

0:01:300:01:33

A little drizzle in the air, too.

0:01:330:01:35

It should be somewhat brighter across eastern areas,

0:01:350:01:37

because we're losing the wind off the North Sea.

0:01:370:01:40

More of a gentle westerly around the top of that area of high pressure.

0:01:400:01:43

That's a better direction for the eastern side of the UK.

0:01:430:01:46

See how the high is just starting to slip away towards the south-west.

0:01:460:01:50

Still clinging on on Tuesday so, again, most places will be dry.

0:01:500:01:54

There'll be a lot of cloud around.

0:01:540:01:56

Brighter skies towards the eastern side of the UK.

0:01:560:01:58

And where you do see a glimmer of sunshine,

0:01:580:02:00

temperatures will get into double figures.

0:02:000:02:02

But things are starting to change,

0:02:020:02:04

and we've got some weather fronts on the scene

0:02:040:02:06

for the middle part of the week.

0:02:060:02:08

These first set of weather fronts are very weak.

0:02:080:02:10

Remember, they're running into that high pressure.

0:02:100:02:14

So we'll see a band of cloud, a little rain or drizzle

0:02:140:02:17

coming across Scotland, away from Northern Ireland,

0:02:170:02:19

into northern and western parts of England and Wales.

0:02:190:02:21

Something a little bit brighter ahead of that.

0:02:210:02:24

One or two showers coming into the north-west of the UK.

0:02:240:02:26

The next weather system

0:02:260:02:28

is the one that's going to have a bit more oomph to it.

0:02:280:02:30

This is probably going to bring the first significant rain

0:02:300:02:33

that we've had for a long time now.

0:02:330:02:35

A lot more isobars on the chart, too,

0:02:350:02:37

so we'll find some stronger winds around on Thursday.

0:02:370:02:39

And this band of rain

0:02:390:02:41

will push its way steadily eastwards across the UK.

0:02:410:02:43

I think most places will get some rain.

0:02:430:02:46

Quite a change from what we've had.

0:02:460:02:48

And this signals a start of something very different

0:02:480:02:51

for the Easter weekend.

0:02:510:02:53

High pressure not really in sight.

0:02:530:02:55

Low pressures are going to come in from the Atlantic.

0:02:550:02:58

At times, we'll have a milder south-westerly wind

0:02:580:03:00

and then as the lows tend to pull away towards Scandinavia,

0:03:000:03:04

they'll introduce, briefly, some cooler north-westerlies,

0:03:040:03:06

bringing some showers as well.

0:03:060:03:08

So a much more unsettled,

0:03:080:03:11

much more changeable pattern as we head into the weekend.

0:03:110:03:14

There'll be some stronger winds as well,

0:03:140:03:17

because things are more changeable.

0:03:170:03:18

There'll be some rain from time to time,

0:03:180:03:20

but it's not a wash-out by any means.

0:03:200:03:22

There will be some spells of sunshine

0:03:220:03:25

and in the sunshine, of course,

0:03:250:03:26

it will feel quite pleasant at this time of the year.

0:03:260:03:28

That's it from me. Bye for now.

0:03:280:03:29

The voice you're hearing is mine.

0:03:310:03:34

It was recorded last night after I had a few pints.

0:03:340:03:36

I'm doing this to show that...

0:03:370:03:39

(slurs) alcohol takes so long to pass through me body.

0:03:390:03:42

Even though I feel sober now, my body is still drunk.

0:03:430:03:46

And if I drove now the consequences could be...
