It's warming up for most of us over the next few days,

0:00:020:00:05

but spring can be fickle.

0:00:050:00:06

And the warming weather may well not last.

0:00:060:00:09

Beyond next week, it may well turn colder again.

0:00:090:00:11

More on that in a moment.

0:00:110:00:12

First, let's focus on this rather stubborn, slow-moving weather front.

0:00:120:00:16

It drove southwards on Friday

0:00:160:00:17

and, during Saturday, is pushing back further north.

0:00:170:00:20

Across northern England and Wales, after a wet start,

0:00:200:00:23

it should turn a little drier.

0:00:230:00:24

The rain creeping back into central and southern Scotland

0:00:240:00:27

and Northern Ireland.

0:00:270:00:28

Never too far away from the south-west.

0:00:280:00:30

Much of northern Scotland, bar the odd shower, dry and bright.

0:00:300:00:33

And the bulk of England and Wales seeing some hazy sunshine.

0:00:330:00:36

And temperatures climbing. More widely into the teens on Saturday.

0:00:360:00:39

It will still be pretty chilly, though, under that rain band.

0:00:390:00:42

That tracks further northwards during Saturday evening,

0:00:420:00:44

and showers arrive across the south-east,

0:00:440:00:46

pushing north across eastern England, into eastern Scotland,

0:00:460:00:49

during the early hours of Sunday.

0:00:490:00:51

Sunday is a real mess.

0:00:510:00:53

The dominant feature is low-pressure systems,

0:00:530:00:56

but notice how they're all moving northwards,

0:00:560:00:58

which means our air is coming up from the south.

0:00:580:01:01

So we are still importing relatively warm air

0:01:010:01:04

through the second half of the weekend in particular,

0:01:040:01:07

which means, in some sunshine,

0:01:070:01:09

temperatures could get to 17 or 18 on Sunday.

0:01:090:01:11

But will we see the sunshine? Not everywhere will.

0:01:110:01:13

There'll still be weather fronts

0:01:130:01:15

bringing showery rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:150:01:17

scattered showers elsewhere.

0:01:170:01:19

After a misty, murky start, some places will see a bit of sun.

0:01:190:01:22

And as I said, if we do,

0:01:220:01:23

temperatures could easily get to 18 Celsius.

0:01:230:01:26

Low-pressure systems, weather fronts,

0:01:260:01:28

continue to dominate into Monday,

0:01:280:01:30

but it's a very wish-washy, messy scenario.

0:01:300:01:32

This area of low pressure could be a little bit further east.

0:01:320:01:35

It will bring some warmth again,

0:01:350:01:37

but also with the warmth comes the moisture,

0:01:370:01:40

and some heavy rain is possible on Monday.

0:01:400:01:42

Most likely across eastern areas

0:01:420:01:44

as that low pressure system works its way out into the North Sea.

0:01:440:01:47

It's still close by on Tuesday.

0:01:470:01:49

Again, pinning down the detail is going to be difficult

0:01:490:01:52

with these slow-moving weather systems.

0:01:520:01:54

But expect some rain, still, across the north-east on Tuesday,

0:01:540:01:57

showers elsewhere.

0:01:570:01:59

Still on Tuesday, though, relatively mild,

0:01:590:02:01

certainly compared to recent days,

0:02:010:02:03

with temperatures widely into double figures

0:02:030:02:05

and some getting into the teens.

0:02:050:02:07

Then the weather becomes a little more straightforward

0:02:070:02:10

from the middle of the week onwards.

0:02:100:02:12

We're back to more classic situations

0:02:120:02:14

with weather fronts pushing in off the Atlantic on Wednesday.

0:02:140:02:16

Again, the timing of this rain band may vary,

0:02:160:02:18

but we're back to weather fronts moving through,

0:02:180:02:21

Cooler air following on behind.

0:02:210:02:23

That cooler air will then dominate for the latter half of next week

0:02:230:02:27

as this area of low pressure takes control.

0:02:270:02:29

Certainly sitting close by, if not over the UK,

0:02:290:02:32

and with the low-pressure in this position,

0:02:320:02:34

well, having had the winds from the south this weekend,

0:02:340:02:37

the winds likely to be coming down from the north

0:02:370:02:39

by the middle or latter part of next weekend.

0:02:390:02:42

So, yes, it does get a bit warmer over the next few days,

0:02:420:02:45

but it's only a brief warming.

0:02:450:02:47

The colder air, the blue colours, gripping the map once more.

0:02:470:02:50

From midweek onwards,

0:02:500:02:52

temperatures likely to be back down to single figures in many places,

0:02:520:02:55

below average, certainly.

0:02:550:02:57

All to do with the jet stream, turning westerly

0:02:570:02:59

and then driving to the south of the UK.

0:02:590:03:01

We're on the cold side of the jet,

0:03:010:03:03

and that jet may well mean low-pressure systems are close by.

0:03:030:03:07

When that happens, well, the weather is always going to be unsettled

0:03:070:03:10

to say the least.

0:03:100:03:12

Low-pressure systems, of course, bringing outbreaks of rain.

0:03:120:03:15

So, yes, the main themes next week,

0:03:150:03:17

after a brief warming spell, it turns colder again.

0:03:170:03:19

Expect rain, snow on the hills, and the winds to be picking up as well.

0:03:190:03:23

After a brief hit of spring,

0:03:230:03:25

hints of winter returning for next weekend.
