Hello. We saw temperature differences across England

0:00:020:00:05

alone during Tuesday, of 10 degrees or more.

0:00:050:00:07

Temperature contrasts are being played out across the UK

0:00:070:00:10

and will continue to do so.

0:00:100:00:11

The weather patterns aren't changing much.

0:00:110:00:13

The reason is this unusual S-shape of a jet stream

0:00:130:00:15

across the northern Atlantic.

0:00:150:00:17

We are used to it going from West to East,

0:00:170:00:19

that changes the weather patterns quite rapidly.

0:00:190:00:21

With this pattern,

0:00:210:00:22

the weather systems underneath don't move very far.

0:00:220:00:26

On this bulge towards the south we have got low-pressure centred,

0:00:260:00:29

on the bulge to the north, high pressure.

0:00:290:00:31

So high pressure to the north, low pressure to the south,

0:00:310:00:33

it'll be that way through much of this week.

0:00:330:00:35

Dividing line between what is cold air

0:00:350:00:38

and warm air is a weather front which will be across the far

0:00:380:00:40

north of England, into Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:400:00:42

bringing rain through the day.

0:00:420:00:44

Chilly conditions to the north of that, bit of a breeze.

0:00:440:00:46

Warmer air to the south after mist and morning fog.

0:00:460:00:48

Sunshine comes out, temperatures lift

0:00:480:00:51

and we will see some thunderstorms develop.

0:00:510:00:54

The thunderstorms could come with hail.

0:00:540:00:56

It will be another warm day, whereas further north, another cold day,

0:00:560:00:59

especially in the wind which will be still with us.

0:00:590:01:02

Outbreaks of rain across eastern Scotland and north-east England.

0:01:020:01:05

Showers taking longer to decay away across England

0:01:050:01:08

and Wales into Thursday morning.

0:01:080:01:10

Slightly bigger temperature contrasts into Thursday morning,

0:01:100:01:13

with colder air cooling across the north of Scotland.

0:01:130:01:15

A touch of frost around.

0:01:150:01:17

That dividing line between the cold and warm air still with us

0:01:170:01:20

on Thursday, high to the north, low to the south.

0:01:200:01:22

Nothing much changing there.

0:01:220:01:24

But there will be some changes, there will be a bit more brightness

0:01:240:01:27

across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England.

0:01:270:01:30

Still some rain, still a bit cool

0:01:300:01:31

and grim down these eastern coasts.

0:01:310:01:33

An improvement on the past few days.

0:01:330:01:35

England and Wales, morning cloud breaks up, sunshine comes

0:01:350:01:38

through, warm once again but that sets off thunderstorms.

0:01:380:01:41

You can see those temperature contrasts in action.

0:01:410:01:43

A little cooler to the south-west by this stage

0:01:430:01:46

and that is because the low pressure to the south of us

0:01:460:01:48

starts to become a bit more dominant, at least for Friday.

0:01:480:01:51

At the same time, a weather front pushes into the north

0:01:510:01:54

of Scotland, introducing even colder air.

0:01:540:01:56

A bit of snow on the tops of the hills as well,

0:01:560:01:58

even to lower levels later.

0:01:580:01:59

England and Wales, a lot more cloud around, showers,

0:01:590:02:03

longer spells of rain. The odd thunderstorm can't be ruled out.

0:02:030:02:07

Temperatures, by and large,

0:02:070:02:09

UK-wide, will be down on what we have at the moment.

0:02:090:02:13

Into Saturday, the cold front pushes southwards.

0:02:130:02:15

There could still be some snow, not just to the hills.

0:02:150:02:18

Brighter weather developing across the far north.

0:02:180:02:21

To the south, still plenty of cloud,

0:02:210:02:23

still the chance of showers at times.

0:02:230:02:25

That will take us into Sunday.

0:02:250:02:26

The low pressure starting to pull away by Sunday.

0:02:260:02:29

How quickly it goes, how quick that colder air pushes its way

0:02:290:02:32

southwards is one thing we will have to watch.

0:02:320:02:34

It could happen quicker than shown on the charts.

0:02:340:02:37

Sunday could be a better day but at the moment, it still looks

0:02:370:02:40

a potential for showers, mainly across England and Wales.

0:02:400:02:42

Brighter, lighter winds the further north you are.

0:02:420:02:45

Beyond that, though, there is a greater sign that it is high

0:02:450:02:48

pressure that will dominate into next week.

0:02:480:02:50

Not as much low pressure, as Darren was hinting at yesterday.

0:02:500:02:53

The high pressure, how far east

0:02:530:02:55

and how quickly it comes in will be the biggest question.

0:02:550:02:57

If it stalls and stays to the west of us,

0:02:570:02:59

it will continue to feed in cooler conditions across the UK.

0:02:590:03:03

But it could easily build across the UK a little further east

0:03:030:03:06

and if it does so, that will allow south or south-easterly winds

0:03:060:03:09

to become a bit more dominant and bring a bit more warmth in.

0:03:090:03:13

That is one big question mark for next week.

0:03:130:03:16

Either way, it looks drier than this week.

0:03:160:03:19

Even if we get that high pressure to the west with a colder air,

0:03:190:03:22

the sun is still strong enough to give a bit of daytime warmth.

0:03:220:03:26

But by night, either regime could still produce a little

0:03:260:03:29

bit of night-time frost.
