Seven days is a long time in weather. At the end of last week,

0:00:030:00:05

some were plunged back into the depths of winter - heavy snowfall.

0:00:050:00:08

Barely a week later,

0:00:080:00:09

we've had blue skies all the way from Blackpool through to Ibiza,

0:00:090:00:13

on the brink of summer.

0:00:130:00:14

And under those blue skies on Wednesday, temperatures started to

0:00:140:00:17

soar, particularly across southern France and northern Spain.

0:00:170:00:19

And that's important, because that is where

0:00:190:00:21

we'll gradually be dragging our weather from.

0:00:210:00:23

Elsewhere, though, not the same blue skies for all.

0:00:230:00:26

Cloud across Scotland and Northern Ireland. That's this weather front,

0:00:260:00:29

which Thursday gets stranded in the far south-east of Scotland, north

0:00:290:00:32

of England, Isle of Man down to the south of the Republic of Ireland.

0:00:320:00:35

To the north and west of it, another blustery day.

0:00:350:00:37

Quite breezy around the Hebrides. Sunshine and showers here.

0:00:370:00:40

A bit more sunshine elsewhere across Scotland

0:00:400:00:42

and Northern Ireland, and out of the breeze not feeling too bad.

0:00:420:00:45

To the south of our weather front, we could still see drizzly rain.

0:00:450:00:48

It's going to be another sunny and warm day, temperatures

0:00:480:00:51

if not the high teens for some will be over 20 Celsius.

0:00:510:00:55

And of course with a bit more in the way of warmth by day,

0:00:550:00:58

we've got slightly warmer nights as well.

0:00:580:01:00

The air's a little bit more humid than it was to start the week,

0:01:000:01:03

so temperatures by night won't drop as much.

0:01:030:01:05

There could be a few mist and fog patches.

0:01:050:01:07

Most around nine or ten Celsius. Chilliest in the north of Scotland.

0:01:070:01:10

But here, the breeze eases down as we go through into Friday.

0:01:100:01:14

High pressure gradually builds across the north.

0:01:140:01:16

Low pressure starting to develop towards the far south-west

0:01:160:01:19

will increase the cloud amounts across England and Wales.

0:01:190:01:21

Mainly high cloud at this stage, so hazy sunshine for the most part.

0:01:210:01:25

The one fly in the ointment is that weak weather front.

0:01:250:01:28

It's pushed northwards into north-east Scotland,

0:01:280:01:30

limiting temperatures in Lerwick and Aberdeen to around ten Celsius.

0:01:300:01:33

That slowly drags away as we go through into the weekend,

0:01:330:01:36

but that low pressure starts to have more of a play,

0:01:360:01:38

and we could bring thunderstorms to start the day

0:01:380:01:41

across parts of Devon, Cornwall

0:01:410:01:43

and also South Wales, pushed up from northern France.

0:01:430:01:46

A weather front activates through the day across parts of

0:01:460:01:49

northern England, Scotland, Northern Ireland. Turning wetter here.

0:01:490:01:52

With windier conditions, feeling rather cool.

0:01:520:01:54

But England and Wales, sunshine, when it breaks out,

0:01:540:01:57

will lift temperatures widely into the low 20s.

0:01:570:02:00

Now, as that low-pressure system gradually pushes a little bit

0:02:000:02:03

westwards, the south-easterly winds have more of a play,

0:02:030:02:05

pushing the warmer air further north,

0:02:050:02:08

chasing the rain clouds away from north-west Scotland,

0:02:080:02:10

and so a warmer, sunnier day for the end of the weekend.

0:02:100:02:13

Scotland and Northern Ireland, some here hitting 20 Celsius.

0:02:130:02:16

A few isolated and pretty intense thunderstorms

0:02:160:02:18

could break out across parts of England and Wales

0:02:180:02:21

as temperatures reach between 23 and 26 degrees.

0:02:210:02:25

A little bit cooler along some eastern coasts of Scotland

0:02:250:02:28

and north-east England.

0:02:280:02:29

And if you're hoping to escape the heat inland

0:02:290:02:32

and head towards the coast, taking a dip in the seas around the UK,

0:02:320:02:35

just one word of caution - this is the time of year where the sea's

0:02:350:02:38

coming out of its coldest part of the year, only eight to ten degrees.

0:02:380:02:41

That does have an impact along eastern coasts.

0:02:410:02:43

We could see some mist and sea fog develop through into Monday,

0:02:430:02:46

which could lap onshore and keep temperatures limited here.

0:02:460:02:49

But a lot of dry, sunny weather.

0:02:490:02:51

Warm weather the further north and west you are.

0:02:510:02:53

Still warm across England and Wales, by and large, for Monday,

0:02:530:02:55

but with increased risk of cloud and some thunderstorms later.

0:02:550:02:59

And that's because low pressure plays more of a part into

0:02:590:03:01

the second half of next week across the south of the UK,

0:03:010:03:04

either bringing up thunderstorms from the near Continent

0:03:040:03:07

or growing our own as temperatures rise inland.

0:03:070:03:09

High pressure starts to push towards the north-west of the UK, too, and

0:03:090:03:13

that keeps the northern half of the UK largely dry through next week.

0:03:130:03:16

But after dry and warm starts, that area of high pressure to the north,

0:03:160:03:19

low pressure to the south starts to drag in something a bit cooler.

0:03:190:03:23

As I said, northern half of the country largely dry,

0:03:230:03:25

thundery downpours possible in the south.

0:03:250:03:27

Nick Miller will have more same time tomorrow.
