Hello. The weather pattern this week has favoured England and Wales

0:00:030:00:06

seeing the highest temperatures, but going to flip this around next week

0:00:060:00:09

and it's the turn of Scotland and Northern Ireland, as we'll see in

0:00:090:00:12

a moment. This is how things looked on Friday. More high cloud

0:00:120:00:15

in the sky, the sunshine hazier as a result, but for England and Wales,

0:00:150:00:18

those temperatures rose a little higher.

0:00:180:00:20

Northolt in north-west London, 24 Celsius,

0:00:200:00:23

well, 23.8 to be precise, the UK's highest of the year so far.

0:00:230:00:27

Threave, south-west Scotland, 18.

0:00:270:00:28

The rest of Scotland and Northern Ireland lower than that,

0:00:280:00:31

not yet in the warmer continental air. That's going to change

0:00:310:00:34

by Sunday. This, though, is Saturday.

0:00:340:00:36

The weather system sneaking up the western side of the UK

0:00:360:00:39

and for some, here, things are taking a backward step

0:00:390:00:41

and that means more cloud around.

0:00:410:00:43

From it, as you can see, across western parts,

0:00:430:00:45

you get some outbreaks of rain, maybe some thundery downpours.

0:00:450:00:48

Into the afternoon, parts of the Midlands running into northern

0:00:480:00:51

England, the chance for a few intense thunderstorms breaking out,

0:00:510:00:54

so be aware of that possibility.

0:00:540:00:56

Just as warm in the sunshine in south-east England,

0:00:560:00:59

while still relatively average

0:00:590:01:00

across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:000:01:02

But going into Sunday, that weather system begins to pull away

0:01:020:01:06

and we start to draw that warmer continental air further north.

0:01:060:01:10

Follow the wind arrows here, it's that warmth that's been coming

0:01:100:01:13

in from the continent to England and Wales over the past few days.

0:01:130:01:16

Follow the wind arrows, it's finally reaching into Scotland

0:01:160:01:19

and Northern Ireland on Sunday,

0:01:190:01:20

away that is from the immediate east coast where you've got that

0:01:200:01:23

onshore breeze keeping temperatures down compared with elsewhere.

0:01:230:01:26

Once any early showers and thunderstorms clear

0:01:260:01:29

away from western parts, you get the sunshine coming out.

0:01:290:01:32

The temperature's starting to head up and on Sunday, finally into

0:01:320:01:35

western Scotland, into Northern Ireland, a few of us getting into

0:01:350:01:38

the low 20s. But the highest temperature is on Sunday.

0:01:380:01:40

Look again as they're going to be across the south-east England -

0:01:400:01:43

26 Celsius is possible.

0:01:430:01:45

Now the set-up into next week is changing things around,

0:01:450:01:47

because low pressure starts to become more dominant across the

0:01:470:01:50

southern half of the UK with high-pressure

0:01:500:01:52

holding on to the north.

0:01:520:01:54

So it is initially on Monday across southern England and south Wales

0:01:540:01:57

we run the risk of thicker cloud,

0:01:570:01:58

getting some outbreaks of rain or thunderstorms,

0:01:580:02:00

bringing the temperature down a few degrees, whereas for the northern

0:02:000:02:04

half of the UK, again away from the cooler east coast,

0:02:040:02:06

you get the best of the sunshine, you get the higher temperatures

0:02:060:02:09

especially into Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

0:02:090:02:11

That set-up is still around as we go from Monday into Tuesday.

0:02:110:02:15

The area of low pressure, spiralling around it some weather fronts,

0:02:150:02:18

getting pulses of thundery rain or thundery showers breaking out,

0:02:180:02:21

perhaps a little bit further north as well on Tuesday,

0:02:210:02:24

but still the northern half of the UK seeing

0:02:240:02:26

the best of the weather and the highest temperatures. Again, low 20s

0:02:260:02:29

for some across western parts of Scotland.

0:02:290:02:32

On Wednesday, it's all shifting a bit further north

0:02:320:02:34

that chance for showers and thunderstorms,

0:02:340:02:36

but still relatively high pressure for Scotland

0:02:360:02:39

and for Northern Ireland, the far north of England.

0:02:390:02:41

So for much of next week, across southern parts, yes,

0:02:410:02:43

there will be occasional warm sunshine, but temperatures not

0:02:430:02:46

as high, because at times it'll be cloudier

0:02:460:02:48

and wetter with some outbreaks of thundery rain.

0:02:480:02:51

Whereas for the northern half of the UK next week -

0:02:510:02:53

northern England, Northern Ireland, especially into Scotland - you'll

0:02:530:02:56

maintain plenty of fine weather with high pressure in control

0:02:560:02:59

and for a change, we'll be hearing about some of the highest

0:02:590:03:01

temperatures in western Scotland compared with what you always hear,

0:03:010:03:04

south-east England. This is the forecast that looks further ahead

0:03:040:03:07

and next weekend it looks like things are going to change.

0:03:070:03:10

I'm going to begin to look towards the Atlantic for our weather again.

0:03:100:03:13

Showers become a little bit more widespread,

0:03:130:03:14

that easterly wind keeping eastern coastal parts relatively cool.

0:03:140:03:17

That'll cut off as we look to a westerly,

0:03:170:03:19

so along the east coast next weekend,

0:03:190:03:21

temperatures might actually head-up a little bit,

0:03:210:03:24

whereas elsewhere, it's gradually becoming less warm.

0:03:240:03:26

Still, temperatures close to or perhaps a little bit above

0:03:260:03:29

the average for the time of year. That's it for now.
