Such is the strength of sun at this time of year | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
that Saturday may actually have felt pretty warm | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
to some of you, but temperatures compared to last weekend | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
were a good 10 to 13 degrees down. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
We've been on the wrong side | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
of an area of high pressure, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
out to the west, we were on the cold side, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
dragging down the winds from the Arctic, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
and you felt that chill across eastern coasts | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
on Saturday, with a bit more cloud | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
and also breeze. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
That's still there on Sunday, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:25
but the breeze easing down a little bit, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
high pressure has nudged in a bit closer to us. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
It's also helped to bring in more cloud | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
to the far north of Scotland for Sunday. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
A few showers in that, and a few afternoon showers | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
for northern England, the east Midlands, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:37
towards East Anglia and potentially along | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
southern parts of Sussex and Kent. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
But on the face of it, temperature values | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
much as they were during Saturday, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
though it may feel warmer for some of you. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
More cloud to end Sunday compared with Saturday, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
and that cloud will stop the temperature | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
dropping away too much. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
Notice the winds, though, starting to switch | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
into a westerly direction. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Sunday night into Monday, not as cold. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:57
If you're going to see a frost, | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
it's going to be very, very isolated indeed. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Monday, we've still got that ridge of high pressure with us, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
it's going to hold on, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
keeping things largely dry, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
but because we are not bringing the air down | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
from the north, more off the Atlantic, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
it does mean it's going to bring | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
more cloud than we've been used to | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
through this weekend. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
Whilst there will be sunny spells, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
always a few cloudier moments during the day, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
and yes, the chance of some showers, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
very isolated, mainly across | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
northern parts of the UK | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
and perhaps down this eastern part as well, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
but temperatures across eastern coast of Scotland, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
eastern England, starting to rise. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
And they will rise further through this week - | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
a warmer week in store for you, at least, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
as we start to see the winds coming off the Atlantic. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
That process starts as we go into Tuesday - | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
the high pressure sinks to the south of us, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
will allow south-westerly winds to develop. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
Very light at this stage, for the most part. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
Sunniest across eastern areas, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
clouding over in the west later, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
some rain, particularly to the west of Scotland | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
and Northern Ireland later - | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
a few heavier bursts going into the evening. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
But temperatures widely | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
in the mid to potentially high teens. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
Now, as this weather front pushes through | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
the night into Wednesday, | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
we'll see some heavy bursts of rain here and there. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
It's going to be a fairly showery feature | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
and same again on Wednesday - | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
occasional heavy, maybe thundery, showers. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
The overriding thing, though, for Wednesday | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
is the wind strength - the windiest day | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
we have had for quite a while. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
Temperatures still up, holding up into the mid-teens, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
maybe dropping later on | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
as we start to pull in colder air | 0:02:17 | 0:02:18
on the western flank of that low pressure system. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
As we go into Thursday, though, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
it all cruxes on where this is going. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
There is a chance it may move to the south of us, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
across northern France, southern England, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
there's a chance it may develop into more of a low | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
and push across the central swathe of the UK. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
At the moment, we're dealing with it | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
as an area of more persistent rain, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
pushing through the Channel, some showers | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
and heavy spells of rain further north, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
but a little sunshine in-between | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
and then things turn blustery later. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
That is one aspect of the forecast | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
which could change. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
Either way, what happens on Thursday, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
towards the end of the week, into next weekend, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
we have a Jet Stream which is set | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
to buckle its way across the UK | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
and, in doing so, it's set to bring | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
an area of low pressure our way, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
which will bring some more wet and windy weather. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
So, the general story for the week | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
is that temperatures will be rising, dragging the winds off the Atlantic, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
so gone are the cool conditions of the weekend. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
But windier weather than we have seen for a while | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
and also some wetter weather at times too. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
But by the time we get into the following week, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
signs are high pressure will | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
build in from the south-west. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:17
It may bring further showers around, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
and a rather cool flow from the north-west of the UK, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
but with heat building across the near continent, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
if that high pressure is a little further east, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
we will drag warmth back our way, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
and we'll keep you updated on that in the next few days. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
They might tell me one of my twins has died. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
They are not going to say that baby. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
I don't know how he's going to come out of there. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37 |
