Hello. If you're keen for a taste of summer, then,

0:00:030:00:05

well, maybe I can offer you something of a whiff

0:00:050:00:07

of settled fine weather for a time next week.

0:00:070:00:10

But it is just a whiff.

0:00:100:00:12

For the next few days, there'll be more rain around.

0:00:120:00:15

There's been a bit of sunshine over the past 24 hours,

0:00:150:00:17

some fine weather for a time in Fife during Wednesday,

0:00:170:00:20

but Wimbledon had a more typical scene, with the covers on again.

0:00:200:00:24

And likely to be in, well, not constant use,

0:00:240:00:27

but they will be needed over the next few days,

0:00:270:00:29

those covers in SW19,

0:00:290:00:31

because the showers gather across southern

0:00:310:00:33

and western areas quite quickly during Thursday morning.

0:00:330:00:36

After many of us start with a bit of sunshine,

0:00:360:00:38

the showers become fairly widespread by the afternoon.

0:00:380:00:40

Parts of north-east England, south-east Scotland

0:00:400:00:42

may not see too many, and some brightness elsewhere.

0:00:420:00:45

The rain during Thursday not as persistent

0:00:450:00:47

or as widespread as it was on Wednesday,

0:00:470:00:49

and as a result, it'll be a little warmer.

0:00:490:00:51

We might squeak up to 20 Celsius.

0:00:510:00:53

But generally, low pressure

0:00:530:00:54

is controlling things at the moment.

0:00:540:00:56

Weather fronts gradually pivoting around.

0:00:560:00:58

This one may still bring cloud and patchy rain

0:00:580:01:00

across the south-east for a time on Friday morning.

0:01:000:01:03

Once that's gone,

0:01:030:01:04

it's basically a day of sunny spells,

0:01:040:01:06

and then bands of showers drifting southwards.

0:01:060:01:08

These showers on Friday could be quite lively.

0:01:080:01:10

Some intense ones.

0:01:100:01:12

Hail and thunder is possible.

0:01:120:01:14

There'll be some sunny spells, during which

0:01:140:01:16

temperatures will stumble around the mid-teens.

0:01:160:01:18

Maybe up to 20 Celsius across the south-east.

0:01:180:01:21

Low-pressure weather front still very much

0:01:210:01:23

the order of the day as we go into the weekend.

0:01:230:01:25

Saturday is another day of heavy showers,

0:01:250:01:28

which will develop quite widely

0:01:280:01:30

through the course of the day,

0:01:300:01:31

particularly across central, northern and eastern parts.

0:01:310:01:34

Parts of Wales, south-west England -

0:01:340:01:36

there's a half-decent chance it may stay dry on Saturday

0:01:360:01:39

with a bit of sunshine, but elsewhere,

0:01:390:01:41

there will be quite blustery conditions, gusty winds,

0:01:410:01:43

and again, showers, when they fall,

0:01:430:01:45

are likely to be heavy, possibly thundery.

0:01:450:01:47

The showers ease on Saturday night,

0:01:470:01:49

but then another weather front

0:01:490:01:51

starts to approach for Sunday.

0:01:510:01:53

Some uncertainty about the timing of this weather front,

0:01:530:01:55

but it will bring, it looks like,

0:01:550:01:57

more cloud and some outbreaks of rain

0:01:570:01:59

across particularly the southern half of the UK.

0:01:590:02:01

Further north there will be a few showers on Sunday,

0:02:010:02:03

but there should also be a bit of brightness, bit of sunshine.

0:02:030:02:06

Temperatures, when the sun's out,

0:02:060:02:07

again, only in the high teens, maybe low 20s.

0:02:070:02:10

These are temperatures below average for the time of year.

0:02:100:02:12

With south-westerly breezes developing

0:02:120:02:15

during Sunday night and Monday, bringing in slightly warmer air,

0:02:150:02:18

it could feel quite humid if we get some brightness

0:02:180:02:20

across the south on Monday. But generally,

0:02:200:02:22

it's another cool day with showers,

0:02:220:02:24

thanks to an area of low pressure dominating

0:02:240:02:26

as we start next week.

0:02:260:02:27

For fine and settled weather, we need high pressure.

0:02:270:02:30

This is the Azores high.

0:02:300:02:32

It's a semi-permanent area of high pressure

0:02:320:02:34

that's called the Azores high

0:02:340:02:36

because it mostly sits over the Azores.

0:02:360:02:38

For us across the UK to get some fine summer weather,

0:02:380:02:41

we need this high

0:02:410:02:43

to move in across the UK.

0:02:430:02:44

It'll try and do it for a time next week,

0:02:440:02:47

but instead of shifting bodily,

0:02:470:02:49

it just sort of extends up towards us for a time,

0:02:490:02:52

and when that happens,

0:02:520:02:54

because it hasn't fully shifted across the UK,

0:02:540:02:56

well, it's always going to be

0:02:560:02:58

only around for a short period of time.

0:02:580:03:00

It does look as if low-pressure systems

0:03:000:03:02

will start to push that high back

0:03:020:03:04

further south later on next week.

0:03:040:03:06

But at least potentially,

0:03:060:03:08

the weather may calm down for a time next week.

0:03:080:03:10

We start with low pressure in control,

0:03:100:03:12

so we start next week

0:03:120:03:14

with cloud and outbreaks of rain,

0:03:140:03:16

and still on the cool side.

0:03:160:03:17

And then hopefully it turns a little drier

0:03:170:03:19

and potentially a little bit warmer,

0:03:190:03:21

before things may well then turn back.

0:03:210:03:23

More unsettled later next week.
