Hello. I know it's a weather cliche, but last week it was Glastonbury,

0:00:030:00:06

so we all know the kind of weather we expect for Glastonbury.

0:00:060:00:08

This week, Wimbledon, so of course it's got to rain.

0:00:080:00:11

But no, it didn't, certainly not on the first day anyway.

0:00:110:00:14

It was beautiful, with blue sky and sunshine.

0:00:140:00:17

But by day two, yes, the covers were out on the outer courts

0:00:170:00:22

at around four o'clock,

0:00:220:00:23

the skies became leaden and the rain arrived.

0:00:230:00:26

It will start bright and sunny,

0:00:260:00:28

but not for long, as more cloud and rain

0:00:280:00:30

is expected during Wednesday.

0:00:300:00:32

The heaviest will be across

0:00:320:00:33

Wales, northern England and southern Scotland.

0:00:330:00:36

It will be somewhat light and patchy

0:00:360:00:38

from time to time through Wimbledon,

0:00:380:00:40

with the rain on and off through the day.

0:00:400:00:43

But temperatures struggling -

0:00:430:00:45

14 to 18 degrees.

0:00:450:00:46

As we move out of Wednesday,

0:00:460:00:47

that rain clears away,

0:00:470:00:49

but low pressure still in the driving seat,

0:00:490:00:51

it's still going to be a breezy story

0:00:510:00:54

and there'll still be outbreaks of rain to come.

0:00:540:00:57

So again we start off on a dry note,

0:00:570:01:00

even sunshine in central and eastern areas.

0:01:000:01:02

Clouding over from the west

0:01:020:01:04

and somewhat light and patchy rain

0:01:040:01:07

will push in to the west

0:01:070:01:08

during Thursday afternoon.

0:01:080:01:10

Eventually moving towards Wimbledon.

0:01:100:01:12

But with a bit more sunshine,

0:01:120:01:14

perhaps a degree or so warmer.

0:01:140:01:15

So that showery rain

0:01:150:01:17

has to drift its way eastwards

0:01:170:01:18

through Thursday night into Friday.

0:01:180:01:21

Friday - may not have escaped your attention -

0:01:210:01:24

is 1 July. Where is summer?

0:01:240:01:26

Cast your mind back to 12 months ago.

0:01:260:01:30

1 July 2015 was the hottest July day

0:01:300:01:33

ever recorded at Heathrow Airport, with 37 degrees.

0:01:330:01:36

This July, we'll be lucky

0:01:360:01:38

if we see a daytime maximum of just 20 Celsius.

0:01:380:01:41

Again, it will be pretty breezy as well.

0:01:410:01:44

The best of the sunshine is likely to be

0:01:440:01:46

in the south-east corner,

0:01:460:01:47

the best of the warmth here.

0:01:470:01:49

But the further north and west you go,

0:01:490:01:51

we keep these showers going

0:01:510:01:53

and it will be rather breezy,

0:01:530:01:55

so feeling cool and disappointing for 1 July.

0:01:550:01:57

A similar story into Saturday.

0:01:570:01:59

Low pressure sitting to the north,

0:01:590:02:01

plenty of showers piling into the north and west.

0:02:010:02:04

Not too bad elsewhere. We'll see sunshine.

0:02:040:02:06

Again, with the sunshine, hopefully we'll see

0:02:060:02:09

some warmth - 18 to 20 degrees,

0:02:090:02:11

perhaps mid-teens further north.

0:02:110:02:13

12 to 15, if we're lucky,

0:02:130:02:15

through Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:150:02:17

As we move out of Saturday towards Sunday,

0:02:170:02:19

there's the potential for most significant rain

0:02:190:02:22

across central and southern parts of England.

0:02:220:02:25

We need to keep a close eye on that.

0:02:250:02:27

That could dampen the spirits

0:02:270:02:28

to the second half of the weekend here.

0:02:280:02:30

Showers continue further north and west.

0:02:300:02:33

In terms of the feel of things on Sunday,

0:02:330:02:35

generally we're looking at around the mid-teens,

0:02:350:02:38

but we might just see 20 in the south-east corner.

0:02:380:02:42

As we move out of Sunday into next week, we want this Azores high.

0:02:420:02:46

This is the Azores high. It looks likely to drift towards the UK.

0:02:460:02:51

It's the Azores high that brings us our summer weather.

0:02:510:02:54

That will help push the jet stream a bit further north and west.

0:02:540:02:57

It's the jet stream that drives the low pressures across the UK.

0:02:570:03:01

But the Azores high is not potentially

0:03:010:03:04

going to stay with us very long

0:03:040:03:05

and it's not going to bring really settled summer sunshine and warmth.

0:03:050:03:10

It was drag in some warm air for a time,

0:03:100:03:12

but always that cooler north-westerly direction

0:03:120:03:16

across the bulk of the country.

0:03:160:03:17

Here we keep it breezy and showery from time to time.

0:03:170:03:21

Further south, it will be breezy,

0:03:210:03:23

but quite humid for a time,

0:03:230:03:24

with some sunshine.

0:03:240:03:25

Unfortunately, with that humidity,

0:03:250:03:27

we could potentially see some thundery downpours to come.

0:03:270:03:31

Take care.
