Hello, there. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
Well, reaching the end of July. All the schools have broken up, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
the holiday season is getting into full swing | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
and there's plenty of rain in the forecast. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
Business as usual. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:11
Last week's heat is a fading memory. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
It's been shoved out of the way | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
by quite an active westerly jet stream. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
And this jet stream delivering these areas of blue. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
The blobs of blue indicating some spells of wet weather | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
for just about all of us, actually, over the next few days. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
So, to sum up, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
we won't see the heat of last week through the next few days. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
We'll see some sunshine, we'll see some rain as well. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
Quite a mixture. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
Now, not much rain around first thing on Tuesday. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
There'll be plenty of dry and bright weather - | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
the best of that across the more eastern areas. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
Already some showers further west | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
and, for some of us, these will become more widespread | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
as we go into the second half of the day. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
But, for others, the sunshine will hold on. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
For example across parts of eastern Scotland, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
maybe north-east England. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
There'll be some showers further west. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
Not too bad across Scotland and Northern Ireland, though, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
for the bulk of the day. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:58
I mentioned some sunshine for north-east England | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
but elsewhere, a fair bit of cloud. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
Increasing amounts of cloud, actually, through the afternoon. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Still some brightness holding on | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
across East Anglia and the south east. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
Up into the low 20s, here. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
A disappointing end to the day further west, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
across Wales and south-east England, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
with some showers around. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Now, gardeners, take note. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
Some places haven't seen much rain for quite a few weeks | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
but overnight we'll see a bit of a splash | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
moving from Northern Ireland through much of England and Wales. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
The good news is that much of that will fall overnight, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
though it will be a damp start to the day | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
across these more southern and eastern areas | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
and the odd sharp shower left behind through the day. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Best of the brightness probably further north, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
though there will be some showers across the far north of Scotland. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
Now, next on the conveyor belt, this area of low pressure. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
And that looks like zipping | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
right the way across the heart of the country. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
That spells one thing. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
It means some more wet weather, actually, on Thursday, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
and some of that rain could be quite heavy. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
Mind you, the far north of Scotland will probably avoid the rain, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
hold on to some brightness. It will be cool, just 14 or 15. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
It might turn a bit muggy for a time across some southern areas. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Generally, underneath the rain clouds, it will be cool. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
Now, the rain, or most of it, will start to clear away on Friday. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
We'll be left with some showers | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
and you'll notice the wind beginning to come down from the north west. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
That's never a particularly warm direction. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
It will knock the temperatures on their head, actually, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
as we approach the weekend. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
The low pressure moves out of the way | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
but we keep those north-westerly winds going. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
Certainly, overnight, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
temperatures will get well down into single figures. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
But, by day, if you can get tucked out of the breeze | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
and in the sunshine, it shouldn't feel too bad at all, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
particularly across the more southern and eastern areas. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
Very nice indeed. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Further north and west, though, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
you'll feel the effects of that breeze | 0:02:33 | 0:02:34
and still some showers left behind. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
Now, through this weekend, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:37
as that low pressure eases out of the way | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
and the high pressure starts to push in from the south west, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
we will start to lose those cool, north-westerly winds. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
The weather settling down, but for how long? | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
Well, most computer models indicate that it won't be for all that long | 0:02:48 | 0:02:52
as low pressure approaches from the north west. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
We'll see winds coming in off the Atlantic | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
with most of the rain closest to that low pressure | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
across the north west. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
However, it won't take much of a shift in the wind direction | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
to usher in some much, much warmer air from the south. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
If you think back to last week, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
a lot can change with a subtle shift in wind direction. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
So watch this space. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
It's a small chance but a couple of computer models | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
are starting to pick up on that idea. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
At the moment, it looks as if it will be wettest in the north west | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
and driest in the south east next week. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
But that risk, or that chance, shall we say, of a shot of heat. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
We'll be keeping a very close eye on that one | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
over the next few days. I'll update you again tomorrow. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
The War On Waste is back and your help has made a big difference. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:37
50,000 people are getting fed | 0:03:37 | 0:03:39
who weren't getting fed before. Every week. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:41
It's a victory for common sense! WOMAN LAUGHS | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
But now, Hugh's uncovered a recycling scandal... | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46 |
