Hello there. It's been a relatively benign second half of July.

0:00:020:00:05

We haven't seen any particularly wet or windy spells of weather,

0:00:050:00:07

but things do look rather more active and unsettled

0:00:070:00:10

as we head through

0:00:100:00:11

into the first part of August.

0:00:110:00:12

Back to the here and now,

0:00:120:00:13

we've got a weather front

0:00:130:00:14

which is slipping its way slowly

0:00:140:00:16

south across the country

0:00:160:00:17

through the day on Friday,

0:00:170:00:19

so it will really be across the southern half

0:00:190:00:20

of England and Wales

0:00:200:00:21

that we'll see that weather front

0:00:210:00:23

bringing a fair amount of cloud

0:00:230:00:24

and some outbreaks of patchy rain.

0:00:240:00:26

As we head through the afternoon,

0:00:260:00:28

that cloud thins and breaks,

0:00:280:00:29

allowing some sunshine,

0:00:290:00:30

whereas further north

0:00:300:00:31

that's where we'll see

0:00:310:00:32

the lion's share of the sunshine,

0:00:320:00:34

with fresher but clearer conditions

0:00:340:00:35

piling in from the north-west.

0:00:350:00:37

So during Friday afternoon,

0:00:370:00:38

a few showers towards

0:00:380:00:39

the north-west of Scotland.

0:00:390:00:40

One of two for Northern Ireland,

0:00:400:00:42

but plenty of dry and settled weather.

0:00:420:00:44

Temperatures across the top half

0:00:440:00:45

of the country in the high teens,

0:00:450:00:47

perhaps 20 degrees or so.

0:00:470:00:48

Further south, it is little bit warmer,

0:00:480:00:51

but we've got the cloud

0:00:510:00:52

and the outbreaks of drizzly rain

0:00:520:00:54

at times across southern parts of Wales,

0:00:540:00:56

southern England too,

0:00:560:00:57

but there will be some brightness

0:00:570:00:59

and temperatures 22 or 23 degrees.

0:00:590:01:01

So still relatively mild here,

0:01:010:01:03

but what we will see

0:01:030:01:04

is cooler, fresher conditions piling in

0:01:040:01:06

from the north-west

0:01:060:01:07

spreading their way across

0:01:070:01:08

all of the country as we head through

0:01:080:01:10

into the early hours of Saturday.

0:01:100:01:11

So that front in the south dying away.

0:01:110:01:13

We've got clearer conditions

0:01:130:01:14

and certainly a little bit more comfortable

0:01:140:01:16

for sleeping after the relative humidity

0:01:160:01:18

that we've seen recently in the south.

0:01:180:01:20

So through the day on Saturday,

0:01:200:01:22

we've got a north-westerly flow

0:01:220:01:23

of air coming in, bringing some showers

0:01:230:01:25

to western Scotland,

0:01:250:01:26

perhaps Northern Ireland,

0:01:260:01:27

into North Wales and the north-west of England.

0:01:270:01:29

One or two cropping up further south too

0:01:290:01:31

and in the sunshine we could

0:01:310:01:32

still see 24 degrees or so.

0:01:320:01:34

Towards the north, though,

0:01:340:01:35

we're looking at the high teens.

0:01:350:01:37

So we're going to continue to see

0:01:370:01:38

that slight cooling trend

0:01:380:01:39

down to the fact that we've got

0:01:390:01:41

low pressure sitting out

0:01:410:01:42

to the north-east of the UK,

0:01:420:01:43

high pressure towards the south-west.

0:01:430:01:45

So the warm air that has been in place gradually gets pushed away

0:01:450:01:49

towards the near continent and we'll start the cooler conditions

0:01:490:01:51

filtering in from the north-west

0:01:510:01:53

through the course of the weekend.

0:01:530:01:55

So for Sunday, a similar day to Saturday.

0:01:550:01:57

Things are looking largely dry

0:01:570:01:59

with some sunshine.

0:01:590:02:00

Temperatures down a touch on recent days,

0:02:000:02:02

around 16 to perhaps 22 degrees,

0:02:020:02:05

just a few scattered showers

0:02:050:02:06

and spot the difference for Monday.

0:02:060:02:08

Another largely dry day with some sunshine,

0:02:080:02:10

a few showers cropping up.

0:02:100:02:12

Many of us avoiding them,

0:02:120:02:13

but those temperatures

0:02:130:02:14

certainly down on recent days

0:02:140:02:16

and we will have some pretty chilly nights.

0:02:160:02:18

So, as we head through the day on Tuesday,

0:02:180:02:20

we've got some weather fronts

0:02:200:02:21

starting to develop here

0:02:210:02:23

out in the Atlantic,

0:02:230:02:24

but before they get to our shores,

0:02:240:02:26

it's still an area of high pressure in charge.

0:02:260:02:28

So, for the most part,

0:02:280:02:29

Tuesday looks like another largely dry day

0:02:290:02:31

with some sunshine,

0:02:310:02:32

but from the west the cloud will increase

0:02:320:02:34

and that could bring some potentially heavy rain

0:02:340:02:36

to western and south-western parts

0:02:360:02:38

of the country to end the day.

0:02:380:02:39

So as we look into the middle of the week, then,

0:02:390:02:42

that big area of low pressure that we saw in the Atlantic looks

0:02:420:02:44

likely to move in from the west, giving some spells

0:02:440:02:47

of potentially heavy rain across around about Wednesday.

0:02:470:02:50

There could be warnings issued from the Met Office for that rain

0:02:500:02:53

at times fairly heavy.

0:02:530:02:55

It looks like it will move off towards the east

0:02:550:02:58

and what we're going to see from midweek onwards

0:02:580:03:00

is a real oscillation in the jet stream.

0:03:000:03:02

So the jet stream becomes more active,

0:03:020:03:04

it will move in from the Atlantic,

0:03:040:03:05

it will bring periods of warmer and dry weather,

0:03:050:03:07

but also, that jet stream will drive low pressure mainly out towards

0:03:070:03:12

the north and the north-west of the UK.

0:03:120:03:14

So as we head through the early part of August,

0:03:140:03:16

things will turn more unsettled

0:03:160:03:18

with wind and rain at times

0:03:180:03:20

mainly north-west, drier conditions

0:03:200:03:22

towards the south-east and after

0:03:220:03:24

the recent warmth and humidity,

0:03:240:03:25

temperatures look around average.

0:03:250:03:27

I'll have more tomorrow. Bye-bye.
