Hello there. It's been a relatively benign second half of July. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
We haven't seen any particularly wet or windy spells of weather, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
but things do look rather more active and unsettled | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
as we head through | 0:00:10 | 0:00:11
into the first part of August. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:12
Back to the here and now, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:13
we've got a weather front | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
which is slipping its way slowly | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
south across the country | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
through the day on Friday, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
so it will really be across the southern half | 0:00:19 | 0:00:20
of England and Wales | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
that we'll see that weather front | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
bringing a fair amount of cloud | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
and some outbreaks of patchy rain. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
As we head through the afternoon, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
that cloud thins and breaks, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
allowing some sunshine, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:30
whereas further north | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
that's where we'll see | 0:00:31 | 0:00:32
the lion's share of the sunshine, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
with fresher but clearer conditions | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
piling in from the north-west. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
So during Friday afternoon, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
a few showers towards | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
the north-west of Scotland. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:40
One of two for Northern Ireland, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
but plenty of dry and settled weather. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
Temperatures across the top half | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
of the country in the high teens, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
perhaps 20 degrees or so. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
Further south, it is little bit warmer, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
but we've got the cloud | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
and the outbreaks of drizzly rain | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
at times across southern parts of Wales, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
southern England too, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:57
but there will be some brightness | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
and temperatures 22 or 23 degrees. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
So still relatively mild here, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
but what we will see | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
is cooler, fresher conditions piling in | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
from the north-west | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
spreading their way across | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
all of the country as we head through | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
into the early hours of Saturday. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
So that front in the south dying away. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
We've got clearer conditions | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
and certainly a little bit more comfortable | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
for sleeping after the relative humidity | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
that we've seen recently in the south. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
So through the day on Saturday, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
we've got a north-westerly flow | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
of air coming in, bringing some showers | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
to western Scotland, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:26
perhaps Northern Ireland, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
into North Wales and the north-west of England. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
One or two cropping up further south too | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
and in the sunshine we could | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
still see 24 degrees or so. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
Towards the north, though, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:35
we're looking at the high teens. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
So we're going to continue to see | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
that slight cooling trend | 0:01:38 | 0:01:39
down to the fact that we've got | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
low pressure sitting out | 0:01:41 | 0:01:42
to the north-east of the UK, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:43
high pressure towards the south-west. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
So the warm air that has been in place gradually gets pushed away | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
towards the near continent and we'll start the cooler conditions | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
filtering in from the north-west | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
through the course of the weekend. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
So for Sunday, a similar day to Saturday. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
Things are looking largely dry | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
with some sunshine. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
Temperatures down a touch on recent days, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
around 16 to perhaps 22 degrees, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
just a few scattered showers | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
and spot the difference for Monday. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Another largely dry day with some sunshine, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
a few showers cropping up. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
Many of us avoiding them, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
but those temperatures | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
certainly down on recent days | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
and we will have some pretty chilly nights. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
So, as we head through the day on Tuesday, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
we've got some weather fronts | 0:02:20 | 0:02:21
starting to develop here | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
out in the Atlantic, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
but before they get to our shores, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
it's still an area of high pressure in charge. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
So, for the most part, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
Tuesday looks like another largely dry day | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
with some sunshine, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
but from the west the cloud will increase | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
and that could bring some potentially heavy rain | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
to western and south-western parts | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
of the country to end the day. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
So as we look into the middle of the week, then, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
that big area of low pressure that we saw in the Atlantic looks | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
likely to move in from the west, giving some spells | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
of potentially heavy rain across around about Wednesday. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
There could be warnings issued from the Met Office for that rain | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
at times fairly heavy. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
It looks like it will move off towards the east | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
and what we're going to see from midweek onwards | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
is a real oscillation in the jet stream. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
So the jet stream becomes more active, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
it will move in from the Atlantic, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:05
it will bring periods of warmer and dry weather, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
but also, that jet stream will drive low pressure mainly out towards | 0:03:07 | 0:03:12
the north and the north-west of the UK. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
So as we head through the early part of August, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
things will turn more unsettled | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
with wind and rain at times | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
mainly north-west, drier conditions | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
towards the south-east and after | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
the recent warmth and humidity, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:25
temperatures look around average. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
I'll have more tomorrow. Bye-bye. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28 |
