Thanks for joining me. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:03
Time to have a look at the weather for the next week or so. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:07
And 1st August wasn't a pretty picture across the south of the UK. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:11
Heavy rain, generally very cloudy. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
This is a picture from Swansea. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
Through the overnight period, it's going to stay overcast, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
wet and very warm. In fact, temperatures in the South | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
could even be more than 15 degrees. But after a beautiful, bright day | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
across northern half of the UK for a change, Moray here, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
clear skies overnight. So that means early on Tuesday morning, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
in some of the glens of Scotland, temperatures could be as low | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
as two degrees. But that's the exception rather than the rule. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
The reason for this big North/South divide is this weather system, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
that's been sliding in off the Atlantic. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
We've got clearer skies across the North. Whereas, in the South, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
through Tuesday, those weather fronts are still marching through, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
bringing us outbreaks of rain. But I think on Tuesday, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
the rain will be just that little bit lighter. So, here it is. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
Nine o'clock in the morning onwards. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
Cloudy with some rain across most of southern England, Wales, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:59
central England, too. Into Northern Ireland, due for some rain | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
in Belfast. And some of that rain | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
getting into south-western Scotland, too. But the North and East there, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08
in Aberdeenshire looking fairly bright. Eventually, that rain | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
will reach Scotland. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
All of us through Tuesday night into Wednesday will have | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
a further dose of rain and still very mild. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
Mild south-westerly winds. Muggy air. 17 degrees across the South. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
15 there across Yorkshire. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Now, Wednesday, winds will be freshening for sure. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
This area of low pressure swings in off the Atlantic. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Quite a few isobars. There, you can count them. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
One, two, three, four, five. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
And so stronger winds, I think, for Northern Ireland, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
the Irish Sea, Wales, into the South as well. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
In fact, quite breezy right across the UK. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
And plenty of showers as well. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
The best of the weather will be across East Anglia and the | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
South East, down to the Isle of Wight. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
The London, temperatures could get up to 25 degrees. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
Now, that low-pressure will be sliding away. It will take time. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
A painful process. It will eventually end up in Scandinavia. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
But on Thursday, it's still close to northern and eastern areas | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
of the UK. So here, I think with low-pressure in charge, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
still showers forming. The far south and south-east by just about get | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
away with the mostly dry weather. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
Temperatures will be into the low or mid-20s. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
And then, that low-pressure moves out into Scandinavia. This | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
high-pressure tries to build in. But we've got more low-pressures | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
trying to come our way as well. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
Kind of a battle on Friday between the high-pressure trying to | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
build in from the South West and these low-pressure systems | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
with weather fronts nibbling on north-western areas of the UK. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
Now, the trend for the weekend is for | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
a nasty area of low pressure to develop between Iceland and | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
our neighbourhood, sending strong winds into north-western areas. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
High-pressure in the South means it will be a lot more settled but a potential for gales I think, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:48
around the coasts of Ireland and western parts of Scotland. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:52
Unseasonably windy. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
And into next week, it does look as though that Jetstream will keep | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
sending in low pressures, weather fronts into north-western areas. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
Whereas, high-pressure will be in charge of the weather in the South. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
To summarise next week, breezy with some rain in the North West. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
Whereas in the South, it is going to be relatively dry. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
So, basically, our standard summer. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Now, we are relatively confident that from around the middle | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
of August onwards, things are going to be settling down and we will see | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
some warmer weather coming in from the south as high-pressure builds. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
So it does look as though summer is certainly not over yet. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
We do try in the Weather Centre. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
