Hello there. I've been trying desperately hard

0:00:030:00:05

to find you some settled summer sunshine,

0:00:050:00:07

but it looks as though summer 2016 remains changeable.

0:00:070:00:10

No two days the same. Take, for example, this week.

0:00:100:00:13

On Tuesday, we had some sunshine and some warmth.

0:00:130:00:16

Beautiful across the western Highlands of Scotland.

0:00:160:00:18

Further south, it was cloudy, dull and damp, but on Wednesday,

0:00:180:00:21

it was central and southern England and Wales that had the sunshine.

0:00:210:00:24

Yes, it was windy, but further north and west

0:00:240:00:26

under that area of low pressure,

0:00:260:00:28

it was wet, windy and miserable.

0:00:280:00:31

The low is starting to drift off into the North Sea

0:00:310:00:34

and that will bring a quieter spell of weather

0:00:340:00:36

for a couple of days at least.

0:00:360:00:38

Now, the winds will swing round to a north-westerly direction.

0:00:380:00:41

That will make it feel just that little bit fresher.

0:00:410:00:43

We still run the risk of a few showers.

0:00:430:00:45

Some of them possibly thundery,

0:00:450:00:47

but hopefully quite isolated

0:00:470:00:48

with highs likely of 14 to 22 Celsius.

0:00:480:00:52

As we move out of Thursday into Friday,

0:00:520:00:54

a little bump of high-pressure continues to build

0:00:540:00:56

and quieten things down from the West.

0:00:560:00:59

So Friday will look predominantly dry.

0:00:590:01:01

This little fellow bringing some showers in by the end of the day,

0:01:010:01:04

but not a bad day in prospect.

0:01:040:01:06

A few showers first thing in sheltered eastern areas.

0:01:060:01:08

The sunshine builds, it will be a nice day and with light winds,

0:01:080:01:11

it will feel quite pleasant in the sun.

0:01:110:01:13

By the end of the day,

0:01:130:01:15

a scattering of showers to the north-west,

0:01:150:01:17

but highs again of 14 to 23 degrees.

0:01:170:01:19

By the time we move towards the weekend,

0:01:190:01:21

there is still a level of uncertainty for the weekend

0:01:210:01:24

because we've got this high-pressure

0:01:240:01:25

building from the south-west.

0:01:250:01:27

That again is the Azores' high.

0:01:270:01:28

It's going to introduce this humid air again,

0:01:280:01:30

but at the same time,

0:01:300:01:32

low pressure moving in from the north-west and it's using

0:01:320:01:34

the UK as the battleground and there is still some uncertainty

0:01:340:01:38

as to how much impact that area

0:01:380:01:40

of low pressure is going to have.

0:01:400:01:42

So on Saturday, there'll be a good deal of dry, sunny weather and warm.

0:01:420:01:46

24 degrees in the far south-east.

0:01:460:01:48

The low pressure will eventually bring some wet and windy weather

0:01:480:01:51

into the extreme north and west.

0:01:510:01:54

As it drifts its way South and East, it weakens.

0:01:540:01:57

A band of cloud potentially by then, but on Sunday,

0:01:570:01:59

it could still produce the threat of some showers

0:01:590:02:02

and a disappointing feel. To the south-east however,

0:02:020:02:04

there is a chance of it turning very warm indeed.

0:02:040:02:07

25 degrees plus, so still a lot to play for on Sunday.

0:02:070:02:11

But the weekend is not a write-off

0:02:110:02:12

and these are my favoured spots

0:02:120:02:14

if you're thinking of taking the kids off to the beach for the day.

0:02:140:02:17

Very nice indeed, particularly the further east you are.

0:02:170:02:20

But if you're heading off to Barry, make the most of it because

0:02:200:02:23

by Monday, we could see a return to some wet and windy weather

0:02:230:02:25

starting to push into Wales and the south-west.

0:02:250:02:28

That will move its way south and east,

0:02:280:02:31

East Anglia and the south-east staying dry and sunny.

0:02:310:02:33

So what's happening to our weather?

0:02:330:02:35

Well, in recent days and weeks, we've had this jet stream

0:02:350:02:38

and that's been sitting across the country.

0:02:380:02:40

Fast-moving jet,

0:02:400:02:42

it's brought areas of low pressure

0:02:420:02:44

and a cooler snap before the amplification dips further south

0:02:440:02:47

and we see that warmer air returning.

0:02:470:02:49

Now, as we move into next week,

0:02:490:02:51

it looks as though the jet stream slows a little

0:02:510:02:54

and the amplification becomes more animated,

0:02:540:02:57

more enhanced.

0:02:570:02:58

And when that happens,

0:02:580:03:00

it's quite tricky for computer models to get a handle

0:03:000:03:02

on the detail in the story.

0:03:020:03:04

At the moment, into next week, it looks as though this area of

0:03:040:03:07

low pressure will sit into the North Sea with high-pressure

0:03:070:03:10

out to the West and that's going to drive in this cooler northerly flow.

0:03:100:03:14

We could still keep some dry weather

0:03:140:03:16

particularly down to the South,

0:03:160:03:17

but it looks as though the temperatures will start

0:03:170:03:20

to tumble, unseasonably cool really for this time of year

0:03:200:03:23

and we could see some rain

0:03:230:03:24

particularly the further north you are.

0:03:240:03:26

Still a lot to play for and, of course,

0:03:260:03:29

we'll firm up on the details.
