Thanks for tuning in to our outlook for the next week or so.

8:36:308:36:32

And I'm sure you've noticed

8:36:328:36:34

that in the last few days it's been quite blustery.

8:36:348:36:36

Winds have died down more recently -

8:36:368:36:38

in fact, a lovely day with light winds on the way on Friday.

8:36:388:36:41

Then, come the weekend, it looks like

8:36:418:36:43

the winds are going to pick up again.

8:36:438:36:45

So it's sort quite changeable out there right now.

8:36:458:36:47

This is the pattern for Friday.

8:36:478:36:49

High pressure will be very close to the UK on Friday,

8:36:498:36:52

driving our settled weather,

8:36:528:36:53

but then this bump in the jet stream

8:36:538:36:55

that's going to develop an area of low pressure

8:36:558:36:58

will send more windy weather in our direction.

8:36:588:37:00

So we're getting these little ripples along the jet stream,

8:37:008:37:03

which makes the weather change from day to day.

8:37:038:37:06

So, Friday we're in that window of much calmer weather.

8:37:068:37:10

Remember, this high pressure starting to build across the UK,

8:37:108:37:13

so lots of sunshine around,

8:37:138:37:15

24 Celsius, not a bad day across northern areas,

8:37:158:37:18

apart from maybe the odd shower as well.

8:37:188:37:20

And with high pressure close by,

8:37:208:37:22

the winds will be light into Friday night and Saturday,

8:37:228:37:25

so that means fairly cool conditions as well.

8:37:258:37:28

But winds are going to be increasing

8:37:288:37:30

through the course of Saturday morning.

8:37:308:37:33

We, in fact, develop gales by the time we get to the evening,

8:37:338:37:36

and the reason for it is

8:37:368:37:37

this high pressure's still kind of in charge

8:37:378:37:39

of the weather in the south,

8:37:398:37:40

but this low - quite a big nasty one -

8:37:408:37:42

is going to zip across the UK

8:37:428:37:44

during the course of the weekend,

8:37:448:37:45

bringing unseasonably windy weather.

8:37:458:37:47

So, for Saturday morning, for most of us,

8:37:478:37:49

a nice, crisp, sunny start,

8:37:498:37:50

but the winds behind me, you can see increasing here -

8:37:508:37:53

that's that low pressure in the Atlantic heading in our direction.

8:37:538:37:56

Gale-force winds, bringing weather fronts with it too,

8:37:568:37:59

so thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain

8:37:598:38:01

to the far northwest of our neighbourhood.

8:38:018:38:03

Way to the south-east it's going to be warm.

8:38:038:38:05

And then, Saturday night into Sunday,

8:38:058:38:07

that low pressure zips to the north of the UK.

8:38:078:38:10

Lots of isobars here.

8:38:108:38:11

Quite often, when you see these little bumps in the isobars

8:38:118:38:14

it means very gusty, very buffeting winds across the UK.

8:38:148:38:18

So, from northern England northwards we could get gusts of up to 50mph.

8:38:188:38:21

That could even bring a branch down. Really blustery one.

8:38:218:38:25

To the south, it's breezy too,

8:38:258:38:27

nowhere near as windy though,

8:38:278:38:28

and temperatures still managing

8:38:288:38:30

to get up to around about 24 Celsius.

8:38:308:38:32

Now, with these ripples in the jet stream,

8:38:328:38:34

we keep getting these weather systems coming in.

8:38:348:38:36

Here's another one - not quite so windy, this one.

8:38:368:38:39

So this one arrives on Monday, bringing increasing winds,

8:38:398:38:42

a little bit of rain,

8:38:428:38:43

there'll be a weak weather front here,

8:38:438:38:45

perhaps bringing fresher conditions to Scotland.

8:38:458:38:47

But to the south of us the winds are coming in from that direction -

8:38:478:38:50

you can see the winds are almost merging here, so warmer weather.

8:38:508:38:53

Now, look at this - Monday,

8:38:538:38:55

we still have little ripples in the jet stream here and there,

8:38:558:38:58

so when that happens the weather keeps changing.

8:38:588:39:00

But as we head into Tuesday,

8:39:008:39:02

things will change out there in the Atlantic,

8:39:028:39:05

in fact the weather looks as though it will start to calm down.

8:39:058:39:08

Look at this - this is Tuesday, lots of fine, dry weather.

8:39:088:39:11

We can see very little in the way of wind here -

8:39:118:39:14

most of the arrows are to the north,

8:39:148:39:16

that's where the breezy weather is with one or two showers.

8:39:168:39:18

And the reason why things are going to calm down

8:39:188:39:22

well into next week

8:39:228:39:23

is because we get this pattern in the jet stream -

8:39:238:39:27

a big ridge developing here.

8:39:278:39:28

This is a wide, very wide ridge, big area of low pressure.

8:39:288:39:32

We're on the cool side of it, though,

8:39:328:39:34

so with high pressure bringing settled weather,

8:39:348:39:36

it's actually going to drag some cooler air in our direction too.

8:39:368:39:39

That basically means that

8:39:398:39:40

rather than the days being particularly cold,

8:39:408:39:43

it's the nights that will feel quite cool.

8:39:438:39:45

So with that changing pattern, it'll stay dry,

8:39:458:39:47

there'll be some sunshine around for sure,

8:39:478:39:49

but the nights will be fairly clear and cool.

8:39:498:39:52

So, windy, changeable weather for the next few days,

8:39:528:39:55

and then next week things will calm down.
