Monday, the area of low pressure is moving into Scandinavia.

Still a sting in its tail and gale force winds expected across

the Northern Isles, whereas further south, I think you are going

to see temperatures still around the teens or low 20s.

As we head through the course of Monday and into Tuesday,

that low pressure steers away and then this behind me,

see the isobars opening up, that's an area of high pressure

which is toppling over across the UK so that means the winds will

calm down, we're going to see a little bit more settled weather.

But you'll notice that the wind direction is more of

a northwesterly so slightly fresher air coming in from

the northern climes and this is because of the jet stream,

it's changing direction, you can see there's that big bump in

the jet stream, the ridge, so a big area of high pressure.

If we look at the same picture, perhaps in a more simplified form,

you will see what I mean where that cold air is coming from.

So, when you're on this side of the high pressure and the jet stream,

the cooler winds tend to follow the direction of that jet stream

so we get that cooler air, in fact all the way from the

Norwegian Sea, so that does mean that Tuesday, Wednesday,

and Thursday, it is going to turn quite cool across the UK.

In fact, it is the nights that will be particularly chilly.

But with high pressure close by,

you're never going to get much in the way of rainfall at all.

Now, later next week, as we head into the weekend,

it does look as though that high-pressure is going to

shift direction a little bit so we will see some of that warmer air

being entrained a little bit

but notice that the jet stream is close to Scotland -

that means that we could see little bit more unsettled weather there.

So, overall, it translates to this -

a little rain in the south for the gardens are sure.

There will be a lot of good weather about but the north-west

perhaps a little bit more unsettled by next weekend.
