Hello. Thanks for tuning in to our weather for the next week or so. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
The weather will chop and change a little bit over the next few days. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
One thing that many of us will notice | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
is the strength of the wind over the next 48 hours or so. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
Those winds really will be building, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
particularly Scotland, gale-force winds on the way. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
But it won't be that cold. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
In fact temperatures across most of the country | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
will be in the upper teens, closer to 20 degrees. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
So one of the reasons | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
why it's relatively warm out there | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
is this south-westerly air | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
coming in from the southern climes. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
But a lot of cloud out there. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
This is the next area of low pressure | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
affecting us, come Thursday. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
It's in a development stage. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
And this area of low pressure | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
will become stronger and more powerful | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
as it moves across the Atlantic, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
develops more and then eventually | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
we'll start to see those gale-force winds | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
approaching our shores. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
With that, we'll see cloud and rain as well. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
Not everybody will get the wind, cloud and rain, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
but many of us will have an unsettled spell. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
This is Wednesday. | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
Actually, not too bad first in the morning. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
There'll be sunshine, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:02
the afternoon's not looking bad | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
across many southern and eastern areas. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
But notice the very outer edges | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
of that nasty area of low pressure | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
will be making their presence felt | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
You can see thicker cloud here | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
around the Western coasts, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
but not cold, around 18 to 20 degrees. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
Let's focus on this area of low pressure. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Here it is. Lots of isobars. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
This is our first, proper autumn blow. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
Gales in the north-west of the country. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
In fact quite stormy here for a time. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
But those strong winds will be pretty nasty | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
across the lowlands as well. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
Through the middle of Thursday, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
we could see gusts of 50mph, 60mph | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
through these major cities. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
In the far north-west, up to as much as 70mph. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
And this could be problematic for travel. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
There could be restrictions on bridges | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
across this part of the country. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
You'll feel the strength of the wind | 0:01:49 | 0:01:50
further south too, across northern England. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
But lots of fine weather as well, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
so it's not all bad. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:55
And temperatures still around 20 degrees. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
Once that gale blows through, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
we'll lose the warmer air | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
and slightly fresher air will arrive | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
from the northern climes. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
So, by Friday, those temperatures take a dip. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
This is early on Friday. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:08
Still just about holding up into the upper teens | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
across the south-east. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
But notice, 13s and 14s, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
so a much fresher feel to things, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
with one or two showers. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
In fact, the showers become | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
more extensive, come Saturday. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Some heavier ones too. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
And for most of us it will be | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
So a cooler day on Saturday. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
Then, Saturday night into Sunday, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
so the second half of the weekend, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
the weather does actually improve. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
We're fairly confident there'll be | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
lots of dry weather around. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
Exactly how warm it will get, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
I think for most of us around 15 or 16 at best. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
The morning might be chilly, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
but the good news is, for many of us, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
there should be a fair bit of sunshine around. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
Beyond that, the start of next week, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
this is the pattern. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
The jet stream we're expecting | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
when we see this dip here, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
we quite often see that area | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
of low pressure to the north-west. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
There's a high pressure just to the east of us. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
So that implies the better of any weather | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
will be the further south-east and east you are. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
There's a suggestion that perhaps we'll see | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
slightly warmer weather coming in from the south. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
But there's always a reservoir of cooler air | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
waiting out in the Atlantic. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
So on balance, the best way | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
to summarise it is pretty much | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
what we'd expect this time of year. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
Cloudy and more unsettled in the north, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
whereas in the south there's a better chance | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
of getting some drier weather. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
Not necessarily warm, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
remember, the mornings are getting cooler now | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
at this time of the year. Bye-bye | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
