Hello. If you've been watching the news, you'll know the

0:00:020:00:04

weather's making the headlines on the other side of the Atlantic,

0:00:040:00:08

in the Caribbean.

0:00:080:00:09

We have a very powerful hurricane, Hurricane Matthew,

0:00:090:00:12

clearly visible on the satellite sequence.

0:00:120:00:14

It's a category 4 storm, so it's a major hurricane.

0:00:140:00:16

It's heading north in the next few days.

0:00:160:00:18

It's going to bring a lot of trouble through the heart of the Caribbean.

0:00:180:00:22

So that's one to keep an eye on in the next few days.

0:00:220:00:25

Much quieter back on our shores for the second part of the weekend.

0:00:250:00:28

We're in-between two weather systems.

0:00:280:00:30

There may well be a bit of a fresh start,

0:00:300:00:32

maybe even a touch of frost in the north and west of the UK and

0:00:320:00:34

a bit of a breeze and a few early showers across East Anglia.

0:00:340:00:37

But the showers fade away, the breeze eases down,

0:00:370:00:40

and then most places are looking at a lovely day,

0:00:400:00:42

lots of sunshine early on.

0:00:420:00:43

A bit of patchy cloud will develop into the afternoon, but it's going

0:00:430:00:46

to stay dry pretty much everywhere and the winds will be light.

0:00:460:00:49

It should feel quite pleasant,

0:00:490:00:51

14, 15 degrees for Glasgow and for Belfast,

0:00:510:00:53

17 or 18 in the London area.

0:00:530:00:55

Then it should be a lovely evening across most

0:00:550:00:58

parts, but we look towards the north and west,

0:00:580:00:59

where the winds will be picking up and

0:00:590:01:01

a line of cloud and some patchy rain tries to push into

0:01:010:01:04

Northern Ireland but doesn't progress.

0:01:040:01:05

Patchy rain in the north-west.

0:01:050:01:07

A colder night further east, many towns and cities dipping into

0:01:070:01:10

single figures, rural spots probably at the bottom end of single figures.

0:01:100:01:13

So a chilly start to the day on Monday,

0:01:130:01:15

but it's going to be another decent day for most parts of the UK.

0:01:150:01:18

We've got these weather fronts trying to push in from the west,

0:01:180:01:21

but they make very little progress eastwards,

0:01:210:01:23

because they run into a big area of high pressure.

0:01:230:01:25

But it is the north-west of the UK where the winds will pick up.

0:01:250:01:27

Could get gale force later on in the day.

0:01:270:01:29

And it looks as if it's really only the Western Isles that will see

0:01:290:01:32

some light and some patchy rain on Monday.

0:01:320:01:34

Elsewhere, it looks like another decent day

0:01:340:01:36

with good spells of sunshine for many, and most places will be in

0:01:360:01:39

the middle to upper teens,

0:01:390:01:40

probably peaking in the south-east at around about 18 or 19.

0:01:400:01:43

Now, the overall pressure pattern doesn't really change much.

0:01:430:01:46

We've got weather fronts trying to push into that area of high

0:01:460:01:48

pressure centred up over Scandinavia, but it's the

0:01:480:01:51

high pressure which really wins out, keeps the weather fronts at bay.

0:01:510:01:54

For the most part, Tuesday does look wetter for Northern Ireland.

0:01:540:01:57

Later on, that rain just pushes a little bit further eastwards,

0:01:570:02:00

Western Wales, Western Scotland, maybe the north-west of England.

0:02:000:02:03

The further east you are on Tuesday, it's another decent day.

0:02:030:02:06

And then, through Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:02:060:02:08

our weather front tries to move northwards and eastwards,

0:02:080:02:11

but it just get squeezed out, all the rain disappears as we get

0:02:110:02:13

on into Wednesday, because the high-pressure systems just dominate.

0:02:130:02:17

So, yes, a bit more cloud on Wednesday, dribs and drabs of

0:02:170:02:19

rain towards the north-east, but most places will be fine and dry.

0:02:190:02:22

And again, it's the middle to upper teens for most places.

0:02:220:02:26

Through Wednesday night into Thursday, spot the difference.

0:02:260:02:29

We've still got the high coming down from Scandinavia,

0:02:290:02:31

influencing most of our weather,

0:02:310:02:33

weather fronts trying to push into the north and the west,

0:02:330:02:36

a bit of a breeze in the north and west again,

0:02:360:02:37

and again there'll be at least some rain, Western Scotland, maybe into

0:02:370:02:40

Northern Ireland, but elsewhere it looks like another fine and dry day.

0:02:400:02:44

Those temperature might just creep down by a notch or two

0:02:440:02:46

as that easterly wind begins to develop.

0:02:460:02:49

And then, looking ahead, towards the end of the coming week, well,

0:02:490:02:51

there's not much change.

0:02:510:02:53

We've still got high pressure from

0:02:530:02:54

Scandinavia and weather fronts trying to push their way into

0:02:540:02:57

the north and west of the UK.

0:02:570:02:59

They don't really make much progress ever eastwards, mainly because

0:02:590:03:02

the jet stream is slipping its way south and then heading north again.

0:03:020:03:07

When you've got the north-south jet stream,

0:03:070:03:08

there's very little to push things from west to east.

0:03:080:03:11

You need a west-to-east jet stream,

0:03:110:03:12

but we might just see that developing later on.

0:03:120:03:15

But most of this coming week is going to be a pretty decent

0:03:150:03:17

one for most places, with maybe some early-morning mist but

0:03:170:03:20

a lot of fine weather by afternoons.

0:03:200:03:23

Later on in the week, we might just begin to see

0:03:230:03:25

rain developing as that west-to-east jet stream develops. Bye for now.

0:03:250:03:28

Watch this. It is amazing.
