Hello there. The main weather story we have been talking about

0:00:030:00:06

over the past week or so has been Hurricane Matthew

0:00:060:00:08

in the western Atlantic. It is still pounding

0:00:080:00:11

the coast of Florida, bringing big waves,

0:00:110:00:13

very damaging winds and exceptionally heavy

0:00:130:00:16

rainfall as well.

0:00:160:00:17

We are set to see this storm continued to push

0:00:170:00:19

a little bit further northwards then north-eastwards

0:00:190:00:21

and eventually it will clear out into the Atlantic.

0:00:210:00:24

We were thinking earlier in the week

0:00:240:00:25

it could head towards our shores

0:00:250:00:27

but we're now more confident

0:00:270:00:28

the storm will probably fade away

0:00:280:00:30

somewhere in the West Atlantic.

0:00:300:00:32

Closer to home, our main influence

0:00:320:00:34

to our weather is this big area

0:00:340:00:36

of high pressure which has established itself

0:00:360:00:38

across Scandinavia. That will stick around

0:00:380:00:41

for the next 10 days or so,

0:00:410:00:43

so slight variations in the weather

0:00:430:00:45

but not a great amount of change.

0:00:450:00:47

What we are seeing is an easterly flow of air.

0:00:470:00:49

You can see the blue colours moving across the country

0:00:490:00:52

through the course of the weekend.

0:00:520:00:53

That's an indication that we've got

0:00:530:00:55

colder conditions moving in, and a bit

0:00:550:00:57

of a drop in those temperatures.

0:00:570:00:58

Things are going to be feeling

0:00:580:01:00

quite autumnal through the weekend.

0:01:000:01:01

A bit of a mixed picture, for many of us,

0:01:010:01:03

a lot of dry weather with some sunshine.

0:01:030:01:05

The best of the sunshine on Saturday

0:01:050:01:06

will be for northern and western areas,

0:01:060:01:08

more in the way of cloud lingering

0:01:080:01:10

through central and eastern parts

0:01:100:01:11

and here we're more likely to catch a shower,

0:01:110:01:13

particularly in the south-east.

0:01:130:01:15

Temperatures around 13 to 17 degrees.

0:01:150:01:18

As we head through Saturday night and on into Sunday,

0:01:180:01:21

it will be turning fairly chilly

0:01:210:01:23

with less in the way of cloud acting as

0:01:230:01:26

a blanket as we move through into Sunday morning,

0:01:260:01:28

so a bit of mist and a bit of fog,

0:01:280:01:30

potentially some frost too first thing Sunday morning,

0:01:300:01:32

but where we do have the cloud sticking around

0:01:320:01:35

we'll see temperatures in some towns and cities

0:01:350:01:37

staying in double figures.

0:01:370:01:38

So Sunday starts off on a fairly quiet note.

0:01:380:01:41

Similar to Saturday, it will be central

0:01:410:01:43

and eastern parts that will have more in the way

0:01:430:01:45

of cloud with the odd shower

0:01:450:01:47

just working east to west,

0:01:470:01:48

but northern and western parts is where you're likely

0:01:480:01:50

to see drier weather and some sunshine,

0:01:500:01:53

lighter winds here too

0:01:530:01:55

and temperatures on the cool side at 12-17 degrees or so.

0:01:550:01:59

A similar day once again for Monday.

0:01:590:02:02

We will continue to see a few blustery showers

0:02:020:02:03

for East Anglia and the south-east of England,

0:02:030:02:05

quite cool by the time we get to Monday,

0:02:050:02:08

11-15 degrees with again the brightest conditions

0:02:080:02:11

always to be found furthest west.

0:02:110:02:13

A similar day again on Tuesday,

0:02:130:02:14

spot the difference this week.

0:02:140:02:16

Across central and eastern areas where you've got

0:02:160:02:18

the cloud by day, it will feel fairly cool,

0:02:180:02:20

but milder overnight.

0:02:200:02:21

Towards the North West with the clearer skies,

0:02:210:02:24

we are in for warmer days

0:02:240:02:25

but chillier conditions overnight.

0:02:250:02:27

A similar picture on Wednesday,

0:02:270:02:29

a lot of dry weather once again.

0:02:290:02:31

That easterly breeze making things feel chilly

0:02:310:02:33

and if you're around the East Coast,

0:02:330:02:34

some showers once again towards the east.

0:02:340:02:36

Further west, sunnier spells

0:02:360:02:38

and temperatures generally around 12-15 degrees.

0:02:380:02:41

So this is how we set up towards the end of the week,

0:02:410:02:43

low pressure towards the west or south-west,

0:02:430:02:46

high-pressure towards the north and north-east.

0:02:460:02:48

This is a bit of a change to what

0:02:480:02:50

we typically see this time of year.

0:02:500:02:52

Usually we see a big area of high pressure,

0:02:520:02:54

the Azores High, which is

0:02:540:02:55

established to the south-west.

0:02:550:02:57

Low pressure normally towards the north of the country

0:02:570:03:00

with relatively mild winds coming off the Atlantic,

0:03:000:03:03

but what we're seeing at the moment

0:03:030:03:05

and through much of the week ahead

0:03:050:03:06

is that area of high pressure

0:03:060:03:08

sitting towards the north of the UK

0:03:080:03:10

bringing settled conditions.

0:03:100:03:12

Low pressure towards the south-west

0:03:120:03:14

may bring more showery weather in the south for a time,

0:03:140:03:16

but it is also drawing in this cool easterly breeze

0:03:160:03:19

from northern and eastern parts of Europe.

0:03:190:03:21

So, the outlook over the next 10 days or so,

0:03:210:03:23

lots of dry weather, brightest towards the west,

0:03:230:03:26

still a few showers

0:03:260:03:27

and occasional mist and fog overnight.

0:03:270:03:29

Bye-bye.
