Hello. This week has been driven along | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
with a fairly consistent weather pattern - | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
early morning frost and fog lifting away | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
to allow for some sunny spells | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
and certainly some dry, decent weather. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
And in fact, we were topping and tailing the country on Friday | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
with some sunshine - a beautiful story across the Northern Isles | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
and, as you can see, into Cornwall as well. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
Beautiful spells of sunshine. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
Sandwiched in between the two, however, there was early morning fog | 0:00:22 | 0:00:26
and certainly some cloud that sat throughout the day | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
with a few nuisance showers across much of eastern England. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
I've just pretty much described the majority of the month so far - | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
in fact, most of the rain this month has been across eastern fringes. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:40
Further west it has been very dry indeed - | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
we've hardly seen any significant rainfall so far this month. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:47
And it doesn't look as though | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
we're going to see much change as we move into the weekend. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
Yes, we could start off with some patchy fog and some frost, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
but some decent dry weather in the story, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
some sunny spells coming through, and just a scattering of showers | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
running in off North Sea coasts, which may well drift | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
a little further inland. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
Top temperatures of about 10-15 degrees, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
slightly below where they should be for this time of year. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
As we go through Saturday night we continue to see clearer skies | 0:01:10 | 0:01:14
and there is the possibility, with lighter winds inland, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
of seeing more stubborn, dense fog patches around | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
first thing on Sunday morning. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
It's going to be another chilly start, a grey, drab story - | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
whether it's fog or low cloud, it's not going to be very pleasant. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:29
But conditions will improve. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
The fog will lift, some sunshine come through, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
and again, a dry theme. But this area of low pressure, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
well, that will increase the wind strength down to the south-west | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
and eventually by the end of Sunday bring some rain. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
But you can see on Sunday, not a bad story. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
If you've got outdoor plans, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:46
I don't think you'll be disappointed with this weather theme. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
9-14 degrees, you'll need a couple of extra layers, perhaps. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
So as we move out of Sunday into Monday, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
there is the potential for that low pressure | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
to bring some more persistent rain for a time, | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
but only into southern areas, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
and again, it's not expected to last. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
So it will bring some rain, some of it heavy for a time, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
and then that will weaken off substantially on Monday. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
So there's going to be outbreaks of showery rain | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
through South Wales and southern England, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
but exactly where that's going to be sitting | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
is still open to some debate. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
But as we move out of Monday into Tuesday, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
high pressure set to build across the country, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
and that's going to push weather fronts in to the north and west, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
so we could see a slightly more mobile situation | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
into the extreme north-west of the country. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
Here, where we've seen some beautiful weather of late, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
it will turn wetter and windier. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
So on Wednesday, more significant rainfall | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
into Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
Further south it stays largely fine and dry - | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
12-15 degrees the high. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
So that high pressure looks likely to be the feature | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
as we move through the middle of the week. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
However, it is going to change a little. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
We lose that mobile, brief mobile flow, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
as that high pressure starts to build, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
so the lows that we've seen bringing the wet and windy weather | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
into the north-west through the middle of the week will ease away, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
the high pressure builds | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
and becomes the driving force in the weather story once more. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
So it looks as though we could close out the month of October | 0:03:10 | 0:03:14
pretty much as the month has been. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:15
Not much change around - some morning fog and frost, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
but largely dry, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
with some beautiful, if we're lucky, autumn sunshine. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
At least the trees will start to look really quite splendid. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
Enjoy your weekend. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28 |
