Good evening. If you've been off for half term,

0:00:010:00:04

the weather has been pretty kind this week.

0:00:040:00:06

Without giving the game away too much,

0:00:060:00:08

this being the extended weather forecast

0:00:080:00:10

any changes will be very slow in the coming six to ten days.

0:00:100:00:14

But we've had some super weather watcher pictures in.

0:00:140:00:16

This was the Isle of Wight late in the day on Thursday.

0:00:160:00:18

It really does make you want to be there.

0:00:180:00:20

It wasn't too far away that we recorded the highest temperature

0:00:200:00:23

of the day - 17 degrees Celsius, so still into the 60s Fahrenheit.

0:00:230:00:27

Not bad given it is October.

0:00:270:00:29

The reason for all this warmth at the moment is the wind direction.

0:00:290:00:32

We are bathed in the south-westerly wind coming in off the Atlantic.

0:00:320:00:35

With high pressure around, any weather fronts tend to be

0:00:350:00:38

disintegrating as they come into that high pressure.

0:00:380:00:41

As you can see, will see that milder air right across the UK,

0:00:410:00:45

enveloping the UK this weekend.

0:00:450:00:48

Because for Friday, at least,

0:00:480:00:49

it will be a little colder across Scotland.

0:00:490:00:52

It does mean brighter weather here, a touch of frost in the valleys,

0:00:520:00:54

a few showers, but certainly here the best sunshine.

0:00:540:00:57

Whilst further south, there will still be fog around,

0:00:570:00:59

pockets of dense fog if you are travelling.

0:00:590:01:01

So do be aware.

0:01:010:01:02

After that, there's more cloud around for Northern Ireland,

0:01:020:01:05

for northern England, North Wales.

0:01:050:01:06

Some drizzly rain and hill fog here.

0:01:060:01:08

If we see some brightness, we could realise 16 or 17 degrees Celsius.

0:01:080:01:12

But on the whole, quite a bit of cloud.

0:01:120:01:14

By Saturday, that same weather front

0:01:140:01:16

will have pushed back northwards again.

0:01:160:01:19

Hence the fact that we are enveloped in that mild Atlantic air

0:01:190:01:21

under the influence of high pressure.

0:01:210:01:23

So the usual, in the morning it's quite chilly with some patchy fog.

0:01:230:01:26

Quite a bit around potentially on Saturday morning.

0:01:260:01:29

By that stage into the afternoon,

0:01:290:01:30

temperatures have risen more across Scotland again into the milder air.

0:01:300:01:35

Saturday night and Sunday brings rainy conditions for the far

0:01:350:01:38

north-west of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:380:01:40

As this weather front pushes close by.

0:01:400:01:43

So, for most, Saturday and Sunday look dry and fine.

0:01:430:01:47

It is Diwali, of course, and you'll get an extra hour in bed as we

0:01:470:01:52

go through Saturday night into Sunday

0:01:520:01:54

because the clocks fall backwards.

0:01:540:01:55

But what does Sunday hold for us?

0:01:550:01:57

As I say, the big change is what is happening in the north-west

0:01:570:01:59

and parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:590:02:01

will see thicker cloud and some patchy rain, still quite mild.

0:02:010:02:05

Whilst for England and Wales,

0:02:050:02:06

we'll pick up some drier air coming in from the low country

0:02:060:02:08

so possibly a bit more sunshine and fewer fog problems.

0:02:080:02:11

But again, there will be patchy fog around

0:02:110:02:14

both Sunday and Monday morning for the rush-hour.

0:02:140:02:16

By that stage, our weather front has settled across northern Scotland.

0:02:160:02:19

Very slow-moving weather front, so that even by Tuesday it is

0:02:190:02:22

only sinking its way into Northern Ireland and northern England,

0:02:220:02:25

pushed along by high-pressure and a colder wind

0:02:250:02:28

coming down from the Arctic, a bit of a northerly setting in.

0:02:280:02:31

So that's the big change for Tuesday.

0:02:310:02:33

It starts to feel chillier across Scotland.

0:02:330:02:36

Maybe see some winteriness in those showers.

0:02:360:02:39

That establishes the pattern for the rest of next week.

0:02:390:02:41

Earlier this week,

0:02:410:02:42

Nick's been telling you about the uncertainties regarding this

0:02:420:02:45

area of low pressure. At the moment, on balance, it looks as if it

0:02:450:02:48

will stay to the south and the high-pressure will move in.

0:02:480:02:50

Still fighting with this low pressure over Scandinavia.

0:02:500:02:53

So in between, we've got the northerly wind

0:02:530:02:55

bringing in that cold air down from the Arctic.

0:02:550:02:57

So that's probably the big change

0:02:570:02:59

through the middle part of next week,

0:02:590:03:00

that it is going to get colder, so night-time frosts and showers

0:03:000:03:04

will fall as sleet and snow in the north.

0:03:040:03:06

We may even see the first snows of the season at lower levels

0:03:060:03:08

across the far north of Scotland.

0:03:080:03:10

We'll also see the return to some foggy mornings and some

0:03:100:03:13

brighter afternoons.

0:03:130:03:15

Crisp, clear air but colder than it has been this week.

0:03:150:03:19

So, looking further ahead,

0:03:190:03:20

it does look dry for a lot of us away from the north and east

0:03:200:03:24

but there will be some showers here and it turns colder with more

0:03:240:03:26

widespread night-time frosts.
