30/10/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. As we head through the final few days of October into the

new month of November, we will see a bit of a change in the weather,

with the change of the month.

We've seen temperatures this week up at around 19 degrees,

well above average for the time of year.

Through the course of next week,

they'll be more typically around about 10 to 12 degrees,

so significantly cooler conditions on the cards

into the first part of November.

High pressure still dominating

our weather at the moment,

so lots of dry weather on the cards

over the next few days.

Some rain working into the far north-west

and on Sunday the main hazard will be

some fairly dense fog patches likely

particularly in the south-east of England

and East Anglia too.

Elsewhere, a little bit of mist

and murk around under that cloud,

but it should be an improving picture.

Mist and fog clearing with some sunshine

by the afternoon, particularly through

parts of southern England

and also towards north-east England,

Scotland and Northern Ireland too.

Temperatures still doing well

for the time of year, between 13 to 17.

We could see 18 degrees or so

for one or two places once again.

Then, moving through the course of Monday,

we've got this weather front

that's moving in towards the north-west,

now that will bring some rain

initially to northern parts of Scotland

and then just pushing a little bit

further south through the course of the day,

so certainly some wet and some breezy weather

in the far north, but for the vast majority

of places, it's going to be

another fine day,

once the fog clears away, that is.

In the south, there'll be some sunshine,

and highs up to around 17 Celsius.

Through the course of Monday night

and rolling through into Tuesday,

we see this weather front

just starting to slide

further south across the UK.

As it does so, it'll be weakening,

but it'll also introduce cooler air,

so the mild air that's been in charge

gets squeezed away towards the south.

You can see a return to the blue colours,

indicating a colder air mass on the way

as we head through the course of Tuesday

and on into Wednesday as well.

So what does that mean weatherwise?

Well, a different feel to the weather, I think,

through the day on Tuesday,

particularly across Scotland

and Northern Ireland,

where we're in that cold air.

The weakening front just slips

slowly further south

across central England and Wales

and it's still reasonably mild and murky

in the south, around 14 degrees,

but further north across Scotland,

temperatures just 10 Celsius.

And first thing Wednesday morning,

we could well see quite a widespread frost,

the first one we've seen in a little while.

Temperatures as low as around minus 2

or minus 3 degrees,

particularly in the countryside.

So a chilly start,

certainly, to Wednesday.

Now, through Wednesday,

frost clearing away, not a bad day,

actually, we've got higher pressure

building once again,

so some sunshine, lots of dry weather,

but temperatures significantly cooler,

round about 9 to 11 degrees,

particularly cool around the east coast.

So this is the pressure setup Wednesday

through into Thursday as well -

we've got high pressure

just to the south-west of the UK,

low pressure out towards the east,

so a reversal in the pressure

compared to what we've seen

throughout much of October.

Now, through the day on Thursday,

again a chilly start with some frost

and some pockets of fog as well.

Rain trying to work into the north-west,

but for many parts of the UK

another quite bright and sunny day,

although some of us struggling

to get into double figures,

so a much cooler feel to the weather through the day on Thursday.

So late next week and into the weekend,

we've got low pressure sitting somewhere to the east of the UK,

high-pressure more likely to the west or the south-west

and that means we're left

with this fairly cool north-westerly airflow,

bringing with it some rain at times,

particularly for northern and western parts of the UK,

but through the course of next week,

things are certainly going to be

feeling quite a bit colder.

There will be more in the way of sunshine,

but also the chance of

a bit of rain at times

and a return to some night-time frosts,

so a change of month

and a change of weather on the way.
