In the last day or so, it's almost as if Mother Nature | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
has turned a switch. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:05
We had a warm end of October, warm Halloween. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:09
Now, we're into November and it's got quite a bit colder | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
and there are some frosts on the way, particularly in the morning. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
But it's not all bad, we've got some sunshine on the way as well. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:19
High pressure is in charge on Wednesday. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
It will be cold and crisp and sunny in the morning and that's | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
exactly what we're going to keep in the afternoon. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
Let's not forget, those of us who like the cold mornings | 0:00:27 | 0:00:31
and the crisp, sunny afternoons, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
that is what we will get on Wednesday. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
Not completely dry. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
There will be one or two showers around. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
One or two sprinkles flirting with these North Sea coasts. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
They may be from more northern and eastern Scotland, down into Norwich | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
but the vast majority of the UK will be enjoying that autumn sunshine. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
Now, high pressure is with us. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
We'll talk about this weather front in a second, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
but high pressure is across the south of the country. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
It is retreating a bit but still sitting across the south. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
So that is where we will have the light winds and the frosty | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
weather into Thursday. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
Thursday morning's chilly. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
More of a breeze across the north, so perhaps that frost lifting a bit. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08
So here's Thursday, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
still high pressure and dry weather in the south, some sunshine there. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
But low pressure comes in off the Atlantic and introduces more cloud, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:18
outbreaks of rain. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
This is not milder weather, low pressures often bring milder weather | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
but this one has a lot of chilly weather stuck in it and circling | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
around so I think on Friday, rather than crisp and cold, it's going to | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
be damp and cold for a lot of us. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35
So cloudy, outbreaks of rain. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
There'll be some sunshine around, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
but for many of us, quite a cloudy day. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
And look at those temperatures, around eight degrees in Newcastle. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
This low is going to shift a little bit towards the east and then | 0:01:44 | 0:01:49
the isobars come in from the north. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
So this is where our airstream is coming from. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
This is the air mass. Remember it's relative temperature, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
this does not mean it will be freezing. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
This is where the mild air is, this is where the colder air is. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
So we have that northerly, north-easterly wind, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
bringing those chilly conditions. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Lots of shells on Saturday across | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
North Sea coasts and further inland as well. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
Hail a possibility. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Nine degrees, a wind-chill as well. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
And then on Saturday night, Bonfire Night, it's not looking too bad. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:21
There will be some clear skies around but more of a breeze | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
and a chance of catching some showers, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
but I think there will be some good conditions around as well. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
Here's Sunday, again you can see the air is coming in from the | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
north and north-east. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
Chilly conditions, it really will be Mickey in Newcastle. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
And barely into double figures across the south. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Let's see what's happening in the next week. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
So we have high pressure towards the south and then these weather fronts | 0:02:41 | 0:02:45
try to push in into north-western parts of the UK. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
You will notice rain here. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
It all follows the same pattern of the Jet Stream. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
When we see the Jet Stream coming in from the north, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
that's when where our air is coming from. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
So it's still going to be on the chilly side. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
Had this Jet stream been further south, going that way, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
it would have been milder. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
But this is slightly, not mild air, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
but slightly less cold air that will be toppling over and the really | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
chilly crisp air will be moving a little bit further towards the east. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:17
So not as cold, not as crisp, but still chilly. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
There will be rain at times throughout the UK | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
but the driest of the weather will remain in the south. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
Thanks for watching. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
