Hello there. Fog has been quite a hazard in recent days, and I suspect

0:00:020:00:05

it will be as we get on into the first part of New Year's Eve.

0:00:050:00:09

The worst of the fog will be across East Anglia and the

0:00:090:00:11

south-east of England, quite dense in places.

0:00:110:00:14

It could be quite tricky on some of the faster routes,

0:00:140:00:17

so do take care on the roads.

0:00:170:00:18

There may well be further delays at the airports.

0:00:180:00:20

If you're on the move, BBC local radio should keep you up to date.

0:00:200:00:23

The worst of the fog will be across parts of East Anglia,

0:00:230:00:26

the south-east of England, a few patches of fog elsewhere.

0:00:260:00:28

It'll be slow to clear because the winds are fairly light

0:00:280:00:30

from the south-west.

0:00:300:00:31

That breeze in Northern Ireland and Scotland helps to keep

0:00:310:00:34

the fog at bay, and we'll see a weather front slipping its

0:00:340:00:36

way ever southwards, bringing some rain with it.

0:00:360:00:38

By the afternoon, ten or eleven degrees for Glasgow, Belfast,

0:00:380:00:41

and around about ten degrees for Cardiff and London, as well.

0:00:410:00:44

As we get on through the evening, our weather front is drifting south.

0:00:440:00:47

It'll eventually clear from southern Scotland.

0:00:470:00:49

By about midnight it's across northern England and parts of Wales.

0:00:490:00:53

South and east of that, it's fine and dry and relatively mild.

0:00:530:00:56

To the north of our weather front,

0:00:560:00:57

it's turning colder all the while, cold enough for some snow showers

0:00:570:01:00

to take us on into the first part of New Year's Day.

0:01:000:01:03

Some of those will get down to quite low levels in northern Scotland.

0:01:030:01:07

But our weather front is rather slow to move away from the south, so it

0:01:070:01:10

will be quite a grey day across the south-eastern corner in particular.

0:01:100:01:14

But follow those isobars back and they go a long way north,

0:01:140:01:16

some Arctic air flooding down across the UK for the start of 2017.

0:01:160:01:21

And that Arctic air will be across all parts by the latter part

0:01:210:01:25

of the day, and there's quite a breeze, as well.

0:01:250:01:27

The strongest winds will be across the North Sea coastal areas,

0:01:270:01:30

just accentuating the chilly feel to things,

0:01:300:01:32

and there'll be a breeze down some western coasts, as well.

0:01:320:01:35

Wintry showers continue in northern Scotland and

0:01:350:01:37

maybe cropping up in the Southern Uplands, maybe the north Pennines.

0:01:370:01:39

As I say, it'll be a pretty slow day across East Anglia

0:01:390:01:42

and the south-east, that rain taking a while to clear away.

0:01:420:01:44

But it does do eventually, and then by Bank Holiday Monday,

0:01:440:01:47

it looks like a pretty decent day, actually, for many places.

0:01:470:01:50

A fair number of isobars on the chart. It will be quite breezy,

0:01:500:01:53

particularly windy around some western and eastern coasts.

0:01:530:01:56

But out of that breeze, inland, actually it looks pretty decent.

0:01:560:01:59

Yes, it'll be a cold start to the day,

0:01:590:02:01

and it will be a cold day generally speaking,

0:02:010:02:03

but there should be winter sunshine,

0:02:030:02:05

particularly across England and Wales.

0:02:050:02:08

More cloud around on Tuesday, but not much, really,

0:02:080:02:10

a little bit in the north and west.

0:02:100:02:12

Many places will be dry, but after a cold start it's only four,

0:02:120:02:15

five or six degrees, seven maybe if you are lucky.

0:02:150:02:18

On to the middle of the week, and high pressure remains in charge.

0:02:180:02:21

Some weather fronts just lurking out in the Atlantic, but all in all

0:02:210:02:24

through the middle of the week it's another essentially dry day.

0:02:240:02:27

A lot of cloud, though, trapped underneath that high,

0:02:270:02:30

and still a bit of a breeze down that North Sea coast.

0:02:300:02:32

Maybe a shower or two for some western areas, but most places

0:02:320:02:35

will be dry but still cold, six, seven or eight degrees

0:02:350:02:38

fairly typical through the middle part of the week.

0:02:380:02:41

And then, as we head on into the latter part of the coming week,

0:02:410:02:45

well, high pressure is slowly losing its influence and weather

0:02:450:02:48

fronts are starting to pile their way in from the west.

0:02:480:02:51

So the north and the west of the UK

0:02:510:02:52

likely to see rain later on next week.

0:02:520:02:54

Not too much of that gets down towards the south-east.

0:02:540:02:56

And then, as we head on into the following weekend, well, the most

0:02:560:02:59

likely scenario is for a cold north or north-easterly wind to develop.

0:02:590:03:04

And with the wind coming from that direction,

0:03:040:03:05

we can expect to see some wintry weather developing.

0:03:050:03:08

There'll be snow showers, mainly in the north and north-east of the UK,

0:03:080:03:11

and there'll be some snow over the higher ground, but some

0:03:110:03:13

of that snow will probably get down to lower levels at times, as well.

0:03:130:03:17

So, into next weekend,

0:03:170:03:18

we're going to keep the cold feel across all parts of the UK.

0:03:180:03:21

It'll be quite windy, as well, the winds still coming down from the

0:03:210:03:24

north or north-east, bringing a few

0:03:240:03:25

wintry showers in the mix, as well. A further update tomorrow.
