Today, we're in the West Midlands.

0:00:020:00:03

And no matter where we live in the country, we're always part of a community.

0:00:030:00:06

But more often than not these days,

0:00:060:00:08

it's hard to get to know who your next-door neighbours are.

0:00:080:00:10

Well, today, hopefully all of that is going to change

0:00:100:00:13

because we are bringing the people of this town together

0:00:130:00:16

to have one massive street party -

0:00:160:00:18

to celebrate the efforts of one very special person

0:00:180:00:21

who's at the heart of this community.

0:00:210:00:23

A man who works tirelessly with those who need a helping hand...

0:00:230:00:27

The work he does is just amazing and we're so glad to have him

0:00:270:00:31

as part of our family within the school.

0:00:310:00:33

..as well as coping with a genetic disorder,

0:00:330:00:36

which has affected his own family.

0:00:360:00:38

I've never met anybody like him.

0:00:380:00:39

He's just fantastic.

0:00:390:00:41

So we're throwing a street auction just for him.

0:00:410:00:44

-ALL:

-Three, two, one.

0:00:440:00:46

Here we go, it's now or never.

0:00:460:00:48

We'll be pounding the streets of his hometown

0:00:490:00:51

to find interesting items that we can sell.

0:00:510:00:54

It's a real antique.

0:00:540:00:55

Such a find, absolutely made my day.

0:00:550:00:58

It's not all going to be easy.

0:00:580:01:00

DOG BARKS AGGRESSIVELY

0:01:000:01:01

And will we manage to reach our target?

0:01:010:01:04

Sold, £50.

0:01:040:01:06

Today, I'm in Brownhills, nestled in the heart of the West Midlands,

0:01:110:01:15

just ten miles north of Birmingham.

0:01:150:01:17

The town was built around coalmines

0:01:180:01:20

and good canal links meant that it prospered.

0:01:200:01:23

Today, it's a close-knit town

0:01:230:01:24

and a big part of that community is Paul Glover.

0:01:240:01:28

Paul has lived in the area all his life

0:01:290:01:31

and met Lisa when they were both just teenagers.

0:01:310:01:34

They married and had two sons, Luke and Liam.

0:01:340:01:37

We were just a normal family of four,

0:01:380:01:41

two boisterous boys,

0:01:410:01:42

just did all the things that normal families would do.

0:01:420:01:45

We were really happy together as a four,

0:01:470:01:49

but obviously we wanted another child.

0:01:490:01:51

Sadly, Paul and Lisa suffered a number of miscarriages

0:01:530:01:56

as they tried for another baby.

0:01:560:01:57

We'd pretty much given up hope of having any more children

0:01:590:02:01

and then the girls were born.

0:02:010:02:02

It's been like a massive explosion in the family in a lot of ways,

0:02:040:02:08

a lot of positive ways,

0:02:080:02:09

but in the early days also some quite difficult times.

0:02:090:02:12

The twin girls, Isabel and Ashlee,

0:02:140:02:16

were born with Williams syndrome,

0:02:160:02:18

which is a rare congenital disorder

0:02:180:02:20

which causes learning difficulties and cardiovascular problems,

0:02:200:02:23

as well as many other symptoms.

0:02:230:02:26

They were sick fairly constantly, most days, most nights,

0:02:260:02:30

up till when they was about four and a half years old.

0:02:300:02:33

We went through changing milk and things, nothing seemed to work,

0:02:350:02:38

so of course they wasn't growing, they wasn't sleeping.

0:02:380:02:41

But despite coping with two poorly babies and two growing boys,

0:02:420:02:46

Paul and Lisa got through the most difficult times together.

0:02:460:02:49

Lisa was incredible. We're a team, we work together,

0:02:510:02:54

and, you know, what went on could have split up a lot of people,

0:02:540:02:57

but if anything it made us stronger together.

0:02:570:03:00

Without her, then I think I would have crumbled.

0:03:000:03:02

The fact that Paul was there,

0:03:030:03:05

I wouldn't have got through what I got through without him by my side.

0:03:050:03:08

It brought us stronger and stronger because it's our family,

0:03:080:03:11

so we just sort of, we just got everything together between us

0:03:110:03:14

and just did our best.

0:03:140:03:15

Since Isabel and Ashlee were born,

0:03:150:03:17

Paul took the decision to change his direction in life,

0:03:170:03:20

to give something back,

0:03:200:03:22

so he began working with other disabled children and adults.

0:03:220:03:26

He works 100%, he captivates the children, he gets them involved,

0:03:260:03:30

he encourages them to take part, and that's what it's all about.

0:03:300:03:34

He's fantastic. He brings so much to the individuals that we have here

0:03:340:03:39

and he gives them opportunities that they wouldn't have had before.

0:03:390:03:43

I like making a difference. I enjoy making a difference.

0:03:430:03:46

There's people out there that are doing that for the girls as well,

0:03:470:03:50

and if I can sort of do that for other people,

0:03:500:03:52

then it's sort of giving back a little bit.

0:03:520:03:54

Can you carry some cones for me, please?

0:03:540:03:57

We think it's about time Paul was recognised for everything he does

0:03:570:04:00

and we want to say a massive thank you.

0:04:000:04:03

And we know he's been saving up to take the whole family on holiday

0:04:050:04:08

to Florida, so we want to help make it the holiday of a lifetime

0:04:080:04:12

and get them passes to the theme parks the girls have always wanted to visit.

0:04:120:04:17

This will cost around £1,200

0:04:170:04:19

and this is how we're going to raise it.

0:04:190:04:21

Now, we've asked all of Paul's family,

0:04:210:04:23

friends and neighbours to donate any unwanted or unloved items they have

0:04:230:04:27

gathering dust in the house, the garage,

0:04:270:04:30

the attic, or the garden shed, so we can sell them

0:04:300:04:32

here at our street party and at the pop-up auction,

0:04:320:04:35

all the time keeping it a secret from Paul.

0:04:350:04:38

Now, it's a huge task.

0:04:380:04:40

I can't do this by myself,

0:04:400:04:41

so I drafted in a couple of friends who know exactly what to look out for

0:04:410:04:45

and, hopefully, those items will help us reach our target.

0:04:450:04:48

They arrived here a few weeks ago to set the wheels in motion.

0:04:480:04:52

Danny Sebastian is a trader who knows his treasure from his trash

0:04:530:04:57

and Izzie Balmer is an auctioneer

0:04:570:04:59

with knowledge of all things antique.

0:04:590:05:01

What a beautiful day, Izzie.

0:05:110:05:13

It's glorious.

0:05:130:05:14

-Isn't it just?

-I've got a good feeling about today.

0:05:140:05:17

I think we need a good feeling on this one

0:05:170:05:18

cos it's kind of a special story, and Paul does so much.

0:05:180:05:22

He's got a lot on his plate.

0:05:220:05:24

I think we've got to push the boat out.

0:05:240:05:26

Because every penny helps.

0:05:260:05:28

I've got a feeling I'm running this one,

0:05:280:05:30

so, on that note, I'm out of here.

0:05:300:05:32

Right, it's time to get cracking.

0:05:350:05:37

Danny and Izzie are in competition

0:05:370:05:39

to see who can uncover the best items,

0:05:390:05:42

and Danny's got a good feeling already...

0:05:420:05:44

I think I'm in for a winning day today!

0:05:440:05:47

..while Izzie's finding it tough.

0:05:470:05:49

Not got anything at all?

0:05:490:05:51

OK, thanks very much, bye-bye.

0:05:510:05:52

But Danny's got a theory.

0:05:540:05:56

Big numbers game, this.

0:05:560:05:58

Generally, you know, first thing in the morning, everybody's at work,

0:05:580:06:01

so you're knocking on a lot of doors and not getting a lot of joy,

0:06:010:06:04

but I'm keeping positive.

0:06:040:06:06

Me spirits are always up.

0:06:060:06:08

Danny's theory's paying off.

0:06:100:06:12

He's met Bob and his family.

0:06:120:06:13

-Are you going on holiday?

-Yeah.

-I've come at the right time, then.

0:06:130:06:16

Take up five minutes of your time, I'm quick, you know, I'll just be,

0:06:160:06:19

"Yes, no, yes, no," and we'll be...

0:06:190:06:21

OK, then. Right. Is this any good to you?

0:06:210:06:23

Beautiful, like, a little seat.

0:06:230:06:26

All right?

0:06:260:06:27

-Beautiful, that.

-That's just come out, I only took it out yesterday.

0:06:280:06:31

-What, the barbecue?

-No, not the barbecue.

0:06:310:06:33

HE LAUGHS

0:06:330:06:35

-Take the...

-We'll take the... Take the lamp.

0:06:350:06:38

I'll put that there so I don't forget it.

0:06:380:06:40

Bob was the local butcher and knows the community well.

0:06:400:06:42

People round here are very, very good and they'll help you out if they can.

0:06:420:06:46

Brownhills is a great area to live.

0:06:460:06:47

I think Bob's given enough now, Danny.

0:06:470:06:49

You'd better let them go on holiday.

0:06:490:06:51

-Lovely.

-Lovely, thank you very much.

-Grand job, thank you.

-Cheers.

0:06:510:06:54

Fell on me feet again. Got some lovely bits here, I really have.

0:06:540:06:57

This little light here is quite modern,

0:06:570:07:00

but I'm sure it'll fit into somebody's interior,

0:07:000:07:03

but what I really like is this little hall chair,

0:07:030:07:06

very nice in this damask covering.

0:07:060:07:09

That should be making £10, maybe even £15.

0:07:090:07:13

Nice one, Danny. I hope Izzie's having better luck now.

0:07:130:07:16

Feeling a bit frustrated and a bit downhearted.

0:07:180:07:21

Nobody seems to be in.

0:07:210:07:23

We've done almost this street now and I haven't got anything,

0:07:230:07:26

and I am slightly concerned that Danny is getting lots of stuff.

0:07:260:07:31

Danny's on a roll.

0:07:310:07:32

Hello! I'm in.

0:07:320:07:34

Have you got any tools for me?

0:07:360:07:38

There's some of my dad's tools in our tools.

0:07:380:07:40

Well, they're quite nice.

0:07:420:07:44

Can we have a couple of hoes? And there's a rake...

0:07:440:07:46

That's the closest one to me.

0:07:460:07:48

You're welcome to have one of the hoes.

0:07:480:07:50

There's an old rocking chair you're leaning over.

0:07:500:07:52

-Did you say old rocking chair?

-It's an old one.

0:07:520:07:55

I don't want it, really.

0:07:550:07:56

You're welcome to take it, if you want that rocking chair.

0:07:560:07:59

Reach it out yourself.

0:07:590:08:00

Quite nice, that. That might do us.

0:08:000:08:02

Might do somebody, anyway.

0:08:020:08:04

What a generous donation.

0:08:040:08:06

This community is really pulling out all the stops for Paul.

0:08:060:08:09

When Ashlee and Isabel were born in 2003,

0:08:140:08:16

doctors didn't know anything was wrong

0:08:160:08:19

and they were sent home as healthy babies.

0:08:190:08:21

But Paul and Lisa knew something wasn't right.

0:08:210:08:24

It was both of them,

0:08:250:08:26

they used to wake up crying, being sick most days, most nights.

0:08:260:08:30

It was really hard, really hard.

0:08:300:08:33

The girls had lots of stays in hospitals,

0:08:340:08:36

with sickness and reflux, and no-one really could tell what it was.

0:08:360:08:40

We just felt devastated because each time we went,

0:08:410:08:44

we didn't feel as though we were getting anywhere at all,

0:08:440:08:47

and the girls were just so poorly. We just couldn't...

0:08:470:08:49

It was just horrible to be in that situation, day in, day out,

0:08:490:08:53

not being able to help them at all or make anything better.

0:08:530:08:55

It took six anxious years until Ashlee and Isabel

0:08:570:09:00

were finally diagnosed with Williams syndrome.

0:09:000:09:03

Those six years were very tough

0:09:030:09:05

because they had to go through mainstream nursery and reception,

0:09:050:09:08

and they had so many challenges to overcome, it was just unbelievable.

0:09:080:09:13

Unbearable.

0:09:140:09:15

Obviously, once we'd got the diagnosis of Williams syndrome,

0:09:170:09:20

it was a complete and utter relief.

0:09:200:09:22

We were so grateful to know what it was

0:09:220:09:24

that was making them so poorly for so long.

0:09:240:09:27

It just meant that we could help them.

0:09:270:09:29

The condition affects them both mentally and physically.

0:09:300:09:33

Isabel has already had a hole in her heart fixed

0:09:330:09:36

and both girls will need more heart operations in the next few years.

0:09:360:09:40

To send your child to surgery, to have major heart surgery,

0:09:420:09:45

obviously is very nerve-racking.

0:09:450:09:46

So the relief when they come through the other end is just...

0:09:480:09:50

SHE EXHALES

0:09:500:09:52

Another symptom of Williams syndrome is learning difficulties

0:09:520:09:55

and hypersociability, which raises more concerns.

0:09:550:09:59

Don't really develop beyond the age of about 12, 13,

0:10:000:10:03

early teenager, really, so it makes them incredibly vulnerable.

0:10:030:10:07

But despite the daily struggles and strains, Paul and Lisa feel lucky.

0:10:070:10:13

What ride shall we go on?

0:10:130:10:14

They light up every room they're in.

0:10:140:10:16

They're so loving, so caring.

0:10:160:10:18

They make very happy, very cheerful people.

0:10:180:10:20

They don't see the bad in people, or the bad in the world,

0:10:200:10:22

so Paul always says if everyone had a touch of Williams,

0:10:220:10:25

the world would be a better place.

0:10:250:10:27

Have a good day, Dad.

0:10:290:10:32

Back to the rummaging,

0:10:320:10:33

and Danny is still digging around in Sally's garden shed

0:10:330:10:36

and he's spotted something else.

0:10:360:10:38

It's quite nice proportions, really.

0:10:400:10:42

I'm just thinking a sand down, a lick of paint,

0:10:420:10:45

we might revive this piece

0:10:450:10:46

and make it into something that would look very special.

0:10:460:10:49

Great idea, Danny.

0:10:490:10:51

That's definitely one to upcycle.

0:10:510:10:53

What a fantastic haul you've got.

0:10:530:10:55

This box has got to be my favourite. Lovely piece, that.

0:10:560:11:00

Dove-tailed joints, sand it back, wax it up,

0:11:000:11:03

I think we're heading up to about £100 worth here.

0:11:030:11:07

Danny has raked in some quality donations there.

0:11:070:11:10

Meanwhile, Izzy's found a furry friend.

0:11:100:11:12

You're a bit excited, aren't you?

0:11:120:11:14

Oh, yes. Yes, yes, yes.

0:11:140:11:17

Definitely, thank you.

0:11:170:11:19

Thank you very much. I'll just pop these here.

0:11:190:11:22

Yes, definitely, yes.

0:11:220:11:25

Thank you. Yes, keep going, keep bringing it on.

0:11:250:11:28

-Oh, yes.

-It's a new one, that is.

0:11:290:11:31

Oh, no, they'll have lots of fun with this.

0:11:310:11:33

-Oh, thank you!

-This hasn't been used.

-Thank you very much.

0:11:330:11:36

-What's your dog called?

-Peppy.

0:11:360:11:38

Peppy. Bring Peppy as well.

0:11:380:11:40

-Yeah.

-The whole family.

-OK, then.

0:11:400:11:42

-Thank you. Glad to help.

-Have a lovely day.

0:11:420:11:44

With Izzy's fortunes turning, can Danny stay ahead of the game?

0:11:440:11:47

Just come back and I saw you, so I thought I'd drop this over.

0:11:470:11:50

We might have some other stuff.

0:11:500:11:51

-Have that for now, then. Yeah.

-And I'll go and sort some more stuff out.

0:11:510:11:55

-Brilliant.

-Thank you very much.

0:11:550:11:56

-Have a good day.

-Yeah. Thank you very much. See you soon.

0:11:560:11:59

Tell you what, it's all coming to.

0:11:590:12:00

I'm really feeling like I might have this one in the bag.

0:12:000:12:03

Izzy, I've got this one under my belt!

0:12:030:12:07

Whether it's under your belt or in the bag, Danny,

0:12:070:12:09

Izzy's checking out her donations.

0:12:090:12:12

We've got assorted collector's plates here.

0:12:120:12:16

They're not as popular as they used to be.

0:12:160:12:17

They used to be really popular

0:12:170:12:19

and people bought them as investment pieces.

0:12:190:12:22

So, on the bric-a-brac,

0:12:220:12:23

you're probably looking at about 50p a plate,

0:12:230:12:26

and we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven...

0:12:260:12:29

About ten. £10...

0:12:290:12:31

No, I can't do maths - £5 there.

0:12:310:12:33

Some great things there to fill up the bric-a-brac stalls.

0:12:330:12:36

Meanwhile, Danny's charmed his way into Beryl's attic.

0:12:360:12:39

-Oh, come on.

-Are you sure?

0:12:390:12:42

So, how long have you lived in the community?

0:12:430:12:45

Here, we've been here 27 years this...

0:12:450:12:48

Next month. We're very fortunate, we've got lovely neighbours

0:12:480:12:53

and I do all the baking for them.

0:12:530:12:55

-Do you still do baking?

-Oh, I do everything.

0:12:550:12:57

My husband won't eat anything out of a box like you youngsters!

0:12:570:13:02

I wonder if we can get some nice cakes on the day.

0:13:020:13:05

Can you bake any cakes for us?

0:13:050:13:06

Oh, I can do some cakes, yes.

0:13:060:13:08

Have you any idea at all, Beryl, what we're actually doing it for?

0:13:080:13:11

It's a special person or something?

0:13:110:13:13

It is, yes. He has two young girls who have a genetic disorder.

0:13:130:13:17

Well, I know what that's like because I had a disabled daughter.

0:13:170:13:20

-Sometimes you...you hit...bottom.

-Bottom.

0:13:200:13:23

You never know who you're going to meet

0:13:250:13:27

and it's wonderful to see how generous people are

0:13:270:13:30

when they know who it's for.

0:13:300:13:32

-Is it a couple of cushions?

-Chuck 'em out.

0:13:320:13:35

-Are they...? Are they any good?

-Lovely!

0:13:350:13:37

Oh, take them, then.

0:13:370:13:39

-Lovely!

-Well, stick some more in the bag!

0:13:390:13:42

Use your head, man!

0:13:420:13:44

HE LAUGHS

0:13:440:13:45

Danny can't seem to put a foot wrong today.

0:13:470:13:49

And down the road, Izzy's got lucky, finding a donation on the street.

0:13:490:13:54

I'm feeling so, so chuffed with myself.

0:13:540:13:56

You see this panelling quite often in sort of Edwardian

0:13:560:13:59

turn-of-the-century furniture.

0:13:590:14:00

Such a find, absolutely made my day.

0:14:000:14:04

That should fetch us £5-£10 on a stall.

0:14:040:14:06

Now, what's Danny up to in Beryl's husband's garage?

0:14:060:14:10

Look at them two little irons.

0:14:110:14:12

Well, again, you see,

0:14:120:14:14

those are useful for whites when I'm doing little jobs.

0:14:140:14:17

-Can we have one?

-You see, whatever I've got here, I do in fact use.

0:14:170:14:22

Yes. Can we have one, Ron, because there's two there...?

0:14:220:14:25

-Oh, give him one!

-I can see...

0:14:250:14:27

Shut him up!

0:14:270:14:28

Do you realise...these were my grandmother's

0:14:300:14:32

and I'm 92...?

0:14:320:14:34

-You're not 92.

-So, how old is this?

0:14:340:14:36

He's 93 this month.

0:14:360:14:37

-So, how old is this?

-And it was your grandmother's?

0:14:370:14:40

-Yes.

-Ooh, so, that would be, erm...

0:14:400:14:43

-So, that's got to be...

-About 150...

0:14:430:14:45

-Well... Yeah.

-She lived to 95.

0:14:450:14:48

-It's in the blood.

-You can have that little case up there, if you like.

0:14:480:14:51

-Very persuasive person, I must say.

-He is, yes.

-I'm a what, sorry?

0:14:510:14:55

-Very persuasive person.

-He's worked hard on us, hasn't he?

0:14:550:14:57

-Yes.

-I'm not going to open it to see if there's any jewels in it.

0:14:570:15:01

If there's any jewels in it, it's mine.

0:15:010:15:04

Whatever's in there, you can keep.

0:15:040:15:06

Give us a kiss.

0:15:060:15:08

-He's never satisfied!

-I know!

0:15:080:15:10

It's all for a good cause.

0:15:100:15:12

Looks like you've made a couple of friends there, Danny,

0:15:120:15:14

and found some great bric-a-brac.

0:15:140:15:17

What the real cream is, is this little iron, it's a real antique.

0:15:170:15:21

Dating back to the late 19th century,

0:15:210:15:24

back in the days where you used to have to put this on a hot fire

0:15:240:15:28

just to get it warm, and then you press away.

0:15:280:15:31

Now, is Izzy seeking some divine intervention?

0:15:310:15:34

-..that will be helpful.

-Oh, books, thank you.

0:15:340:15:36

I couldn't work out what that was from the side there.

0:15:360:15:39

-A bit of a surprise.

-We have our street party,

0:15:390:15:41

-which I think we're doing at the church.

-That's it, yes.

0:15:410:15:44

So, I'm hoping you're fully on board.

0:15:440:15:46

-I am indeed, yes.

-Excellent.

0:15:460:15:47

-I've put the request out for cakes and things.

-Brilliant.

0:15:470:15:49

So, hopefully we should get some home-made cakes.

0:15:490:15:51

-That's what I want to hear.

-Absolutely!

0:15:510:15:53

With Dave the vicar singing from our hymn sheet,

0:15:530:15:56

it's time to see if we can get Paul involved, too.

0:15:560:15:59

I'm a little bit nervous. Here goes.

0:15:590:16:02

It's all up to you now, Danny.

0:16:040:16:05

He's just round the garage.

0:16:070:16:09

Erm, we've had a bit of a problem, he's had a bit of a bump on the car.

0:16:090:16:12

He's on the phone to the insurance.

0:16:120:16:15

-He'll be back in a minute, though.

-What does that mean,

0:16:150:16:17

-we've got to talk quick?

-Yeah!

0:16:170:16:18

Is this the rummage items?

0:16:200:16:22

-Yeah.

-So, we'll go around here, just in case he comes in,

0:16:220:16:24

and it looks like we're talking about the rummage gear.

0:16:240:16:26

How is the secret going, is it still being kept...?

0:16:260:16:29

So far, yeah. And it's not easy to lie to him, I must admit.

0:16:290:16:33

-But, yeah.

-Do you think you're going to be able to keep it a secret?

0:16:330:16:37

-Yeah, I think so.

-You think so - you hope so.

0:16:370:16:39

Well, yeah, pretty much. At the moment we're OK, so, yeah.

0:16:390:16:42

As long as the girls don't know. If the girls know, that's it.

0:16:420:16:45

-Sure.

-Because they're just... You know. Not deliberately.

0:16:450:16:47

-No!

-They'd just let it out, yeah.

0:16:470:16:49

-Is that the door?

-Yeah.

-I'll tell you what,

0:16:490:16:51

we'll be talking about this because I don't want him to...

0:16:510:16:53

-OK.

-Hello, sir.

-There are some things in the garage, yes.

0:16:530:16:57

-How are you?

-I'm all right, yeah. You?

-Yeah, very well, thank you.

0:16:570:17:00

Nice to see you. It seems like you've donated an awful lot.

0:17:000:17:03

Lisa was telling me that you're involved with West Bromwich Albion.

0:17:030:17:07

-Yeah, the foundation.

-Yeah, so

0:17:070:17:08

I wonder if I can get a signed shirt off one of the top goal-scorers,

0:17:080:17:12

-or...?

-I don't know about that. They've all gone on holidays now, haven't they?

0:17:120:17:15

-Don't worry about that.

-I could make a call and see what I could do.

0:17:150:17:18

You could call and see what you could do, of course you can.

0:17:180:17:20

I don't know if I can get anything, I don't want to promise something.

0:17:200:17:24

-What have you got in that garage for me?

-I don't know, it's a mess!

0:17:240:17:28

That is MY cup of tea!

0:17:280:17:29

What a great guy!

0:17:310:17:32

Even while dealing with the stress of sorting out his car insurance,

0:17:320:17:36

Paul is still so willing to help us

0:17:360:17:38

and he's got some great bits out of his garage, too.

0:17:380:17:41

I nearly forgot my dartboard! Thank you very much, Paul.

0:17:410:17:44

-No worries.

-And don't forget,

0:17:440:17:45

you still owe me a West Bromwich Albion signed T-shirt.

0:17:450:17:48

I'm going to look for my team now, so we can take this away.

0:17:480:17:50

What a great guy!

0:17:530:17:55

And as far as I'm concerned, I have not given the game away.

0:17:550:17:59

He hasn't got a clue what's going on.

0:17:590:18:01

You got away with it!

0:18:020:18:03

He's definitely none the wiser

0:18:030:18:05

and let's hope it stays that way.

0:18:050:18:07

Back on the street, donations are still coming in.

0:18:070:18:10

I bought it with ambitions to wear it, but...

0:18:100:18:13

-Not your style?

-I'm a bit too big.

0:18:130:18:14

Oh! Thank you. Your loss is our gain.

0:18:140:18:16

Thank you very much.

0:18:160:18:18

Danny has caught back up with Andrew from earlier,

0:18:180:18:21

but there seems to be some confusion.

0:18:210:18:23

As you went down the road, he come past in the van, so I shouted.

0:18:240:18:27

-I've got a couple of other things.

-Oh, give us a couple of little bits.

0:18:270:18:30

-That chap in the...

-That chap in the van -

0:18:300:18:32

did you tell him it was for Danny?

0:18:320:18:33

No, I just... I just...

0:18:330:18:35

There's a big competition going on here.

0:18:360:18:39

-Oh, right!

-You know, I want all the...

0:18:390:18:40

Well, I give him about five or six boxes.

0:18:400:18:43

Our team seem to have beaten Danny to it!

0:18:430:18:46

You should have waited for me!

0:18:460:18:48

That was the chap, actually, yeah.

0:18:480:18:50

Excuse me! And whose stuff is that?

0:18:500:18:53

-Who's it for?

-Danny.

0:18:530:18:54

So, I'll have you remember that, that's MY stuff.

0:18:560:18:58

-Are you sure, Michael?

-Absolutely.

0:18:580:19:00

-And it's mine!

-Danny's, OK. It's Danny's.

0:19:000:19:04

Not Izzy's - Danny's.

0:19:040:19:05

That will do - you're my man!

0:19:050:19:06

-Izzy...

-This is MY house!

0:19:080:19:10

I'm fully aware that this is your side, but...

0:19:100:19:12

-I've knocked on this door.

-Well, there seems to be a problem, Izzy,

0:19:120:19:15

because the chap came over to me earlier on, he gave me a print,

0:19:150:19:18

-and he said come back later.

-And you didn't...

0:19:180:19:21

So, you're collecting for me?

0:19:210:19:22

-Aw, Danny...!

-No, I'm not collecting for you! He favoured me.

0:19:220:19:25

He knew your name, but he said, "These are for Danny."

0:19:250:19:28

So, those five boxes are mine. But I'll tell you for what, though,

0:19:280:19:32

-you can have that.

-Oh!

-We don't like electricals.

0:19:320:19:34

-You can have that.

-Thank you.

-I've got work to do.

0:19:340:19:37

Once the girls were diagnosed, Paul decided to leave a job in sales

0:19:380:19:43

and now works for the Albion Foundation,

0:19:430:19:46

a charity linked to the local football club, West Bromwich Albion.

0:19:460:19:50

The charity provides sport, education and disability programmes.

0:19:500:19:54

The teachers of the school that Paul visits know how vital his help is.

0:19:540:19:59

He's just full of enthusiasm, patience, understanding,

0:19:590:20:05

and he's just a real asset to our school life.

0:20:050:20:08

Their responses and reactions to the activities under Paul

0:20:100:20:13

has increased phenomenally. He doesn't see the child's disability.

0:20:130:20:17

He sees the child for the child.

0:20:170:20:19

I think Paul...

0:20:190:20:21

..fantastic.

0:20:220:20:23

Paul encourages the disabled community to take part in sports,

0:20:230:20:27

to help build their confidence and achieve things that are,

0:20:270:20:30

for them, massive milestones.

0:20:300:20:33

I think it takes a certain individual

0:20:330:20:35

to work with individuals who have got learning disabilities

0:20:350:20:39

and some that have got challenging behaviour.

0:20:390:20:41

Paul deals with that really, really well.

0:20:410:20:43

They all enjoy the sessions.

0:20:430:20:45

There's nobody that doesn't want to do it!

0:20:450:20:47

Paul is nice man.

0:20:470:20:50

He's all right. He's a good friend.

0:20:500:20:52

They're not allowed on the site before six

0:20:520:20:54

and they'll be there from 3:30, 4pm, waiting around, waiting to go in.

0:20:540:20:57

And it's just the most important thing in their life, so...

0:20:570:21:01

if that's what we're doing, then that's hugely important.

0:21:010:21:04

Paul also fundraises for the Williams Syndrome Foundation

0:21:050:21:08

through hiking challenges and running half-marathons.

0:21:080:21:12

He also raises money for the schools he works so closely with.

0:21:120:21:16

He's supported us, raising lots and lots of money

0:21:160:21:18

for equipment for our children.

0:21:180:21:20

So, yeah, he does over and above.

0:21:200:21:22

Paul's a bit of a hero.

0:21:220:21:24

He also saved a man's life when he collapsed at a sport session.

0:21:240:21:27

Paul did CPR on the guy for goodness knows how long,

0:21:290:21:34

until the ambulance could get there and take over,

0:21:340:21:37

and I know that family are eternally grateful to him for that.

0:21:370:21:41

He really is an inspirational man

0:21:410:21:43

and does so much good in and around the community here.

0:21:430:21:46

Back on the street, Izzy is hoping a local gardener has time to help.

0:21:480:21:53

-Have a word with the missus if you like.

-That would be brilliant.

0:21:530:21:55

You're a hero, thank you.

0:21:550:21:57

Good maker. See you soon. Bye-bye. Thank you, bye-bye.

0:21:570:22:01

I've just been given this wristwatch.

0:22:010:22:04

Now, we do have...

0:22:040:22:06

..what is known as baguette cut.

0:22:070:22:09

Long, narrow, rectangular-cut stones.

0:22:090:22:12

These are baguette cut.

0:22:120:22:13

These were very, very popular during the 1920s.

0:22:130:22:16

They retail at about £50.

0:22:160:22:18

That's a top quality item for the bric-a-brac stall.

0:22:180:22:21

With one final push, Danny risks everything.

0:22:210:22:24

Anybody there?

0:22:240:22:25

DOG BARKS

0:22:250:22:27

Cor!

0:22:270:22:28

That were quick! Phew!

0:22:290:22:31

And a few last donations come in.

0:22:310:22:34

Thanks very much, thank you. Bye-bye.

0:22:340:22:36

Thanks very much.

0:22:360:22:37

-All right, then.

-Pleasure.

0:22:370:22:39

Cheers, bye-bye.

0:22:390:22:40

The day's rummaging is complete,

0:22:430:22:44

and it's time for Danny and Izzy

0:22:440:22:46

to decide which items to send to a sale room

0:22:460:22:49

to hopefully get the best price to add to our total.

0:22:490:22:53

I'm going to be honest with you, Izzy, I've been quite lucky today.

0:22:530:22:56

I fell on my feet. Talk me through what you found today.

0:22:560:22:59

One of my best finds is the corner cabinet.

0:22:590:23:02

-Very nice.

-Some little girls' shoes, we've got some books...

0:23:020:23:05

I mean, as you can see, it was hard work.

0:23:050:23:07

-A little bit thin.

-Yes.

0:23:070:23:09

Not a huge amount there,

0:23:090:23:10

but luckily, it looks like Danny's got more.

0:23:100:23:13

That's quite nice, we've got a book case.

0:23:130:23:16

Needs a bit of work doing to it.

0:23:160:23:17

I've got a feeling that that might work for upcycling.

0:23:170:23:21

I agree, Danny.

0:23:210:23:22

That's lovely as well, this rocking chair.

0:23:220:23:25

Tools, I've got loads of tools - they're always good sellers.

0:23:250:23:27

Yes, and some nice vintage ones as well.

0:23:270:23:29

Antique hand tools are collector's items.

0:23:290:23:32

Good ones can be worth a few hundred pounds.

0:23:320:23:35

I actually really like the iron, the Victorian iron, I think that's fab.

0:23:350:23:38

Danny's certainly got a great haul,

0:23:380:23:40

but will Izzy's star item swing things in her favour?

0:23:400:23:44

-What do you reckon?

-Well, it looks very expensive.

0:23:440:23:47

-Retails at about £50.

-Done well there, Izzy.

0:23:470:23:50

Have I managed to sort of pull back a bit of...?

0:23:500:23:52

Well, I think you have, yeah.

0:23:520:23:53

That's a great find.

0:23:530:23:55

But what's Danny got up his sleeve as HIS star item?

0:23:550:23:58

Looks like a box to me.

0:23:580:23:59

Well, it is just a plain box.

0:23:590:24:00

As you can see, it's got great dovetailing.

0:24:000:24:03

I like it, Danny, it's very, very sweet, isn't it?

0:24:030:24:05

Got a bit of age to it as well.

0:24:050:24:06

I think we should upcycle that.

0:24:060:24:08

And together with the bookcase to upcycle,

0:24:080:24:10

we'd hope to make about £40-£50.

0:24:100:24:13

I mean, you've just got at least three times as much as me.

0:24:150:24:17

-Does that mean I'm the winner?

-Danny, it means you're the winner.

0:24:170:24:20

I suppose now, Izzy, all we need to know is,

0:24:200:24:22

what's going to go to saleroom?

0:24:220:24:24

Maybe the tools as a job lot

0:24:240:24:27

and probably the rocking chair.

0:24:270:24:29

Yes, yes, I think they're good choices.

0:24:290:24:31

With just Paul's dartboard for the pop-up auction,

0:24:310:24:34

we're going to really have to rely on more donations

0:24:340:24:36

coming in on the day.

0:24:360:24:37

But at least we do have some quality bric-a-brac for Danny to sell.

0:24:370:24:41

I am trusting you to do your very, very, very best with it.

0:24:410:24:45

Promise me you're going to get good prices for this.

0:24:450:24:47

I promise you, Izzy, I'll get some good prices.

0:24:470:24:49

Hopefully we'll make the target.

0:24:490:24:52

I hope so, Danny. But I think this auction day

0:24:520:24:54

is going to be touch and go.

0:24:540:24:57

It's the morning of the street auction.

0:25:000:25:02

We've got all hands on deck...

0:25:020:25:04

-A bit more than that, Julia.

-..to set out the stalls...

0:25:040:25:06

..and hang the bunting. And I can't do this by myself, so luckily

0:25:080:25:12

Danny and Izzy are taking it in turns

0:25:120:25:14

to help me with the pop-up auctions.

0:25:140:25:16

I'm doing a grand job, aren't I?

0:25:160:25:18

And today, it's Danny's turn.

0:25:180:25:20

That's a good-looking lot.

0:25:200:25:22

Now, Izzy's not here today,

0:25:220:25:24

but I tell you what, you've both done a good job,

0:25:240:25:27

you really have. It's a good start.

0:25:270:25:28

They were very generous here.

0:25:280:25:29

-What's this, a dartboard?

-Dartboard.

-PAUL LAUGHS

0:25:290:25:32

-Look at that.

-I was thinking that might go on your pop-up.

0:25:320:25:35

I think so as well.

0:25:350:25:36

180!

0:25:360:25:37

I think we'd better get on with it, Danny, we've got a lot to do.

0:25:390:25:41

And it's going to be boiling hot today,

0:25:410:25:43

so I think...

0:25:430:25:45

-You got a new hat?

-No, I'm just going to stand in the shade!

0:25:450:25:48

It's time for me to round up the troops,

0:25:510:25:54

or rather the local Air Cadets, who've come to volunteer.

0:25:540:25:58

Good morning, everyone. Thank you so much for helping us out.

0:25:580:26:01

I feel like I should salute you all.

0:26:010:26:03

You look fantastic.

0:26:030:26:05

-You all live in the area?

-Yep. We're Brownhills born and bred.

0:26:050:26:07

Good for you. OK, who's going to be in charge of teas and coffees?

0:26:070:26:11

-Three of you?

-Yeah.

-I'll do that, if you want.

0:26:110:26:12

-Yeah. Yes.

-Can you do that?

0:26:120:26:14

All of this is top secret, absolutely top-secret.

0:26:140:26:17

The person we are doing this for is helping us out today.

0:26:170:26:21

We mustn't let him know, OK?

0:26:210:26:23

Otherwise the game's up. I'm relying on you, Ash!

0:26:230:26:26

Sell hard and sell fast, and enjoy yourself.

0:26:310:26:33

We need the money.

0:26:330:26:34

As our volunteers get to work,

0:26:340:26:36

I'm meeting up with a friend of Paul's, who's in on our secret

0:26:360:26:40

and knows how much he does to help others.

0:26:400:26:42

What do you think Paul will make of all of this?

0:26:420:26:45

I think he'll be absolutely overwhelmed.

0:26:450:26:47

He's a very humble man, and he won't be expecting this,

0:26:470:26:50

and I think he might be a little bit embarrassed. I might get into...

0:26:500:26:53

-It's going to be a great surprise.

-It will be.

0:26:530:26:55

He's coming along later anyway,

0:26:550:26:57

-so he's bound to start asking even more questions.

-Yes.

0:26:570:27:01

-Well, look, good luck, good luck.

-Thank you.

0:27:010:27:03

This is looking really, really positive.

0:27:030:27:04

Talk of the devil. Here he is, arriving with yet more donations,

0:27:050:27:09

including a signed West Brom football shirt.

0:27:090:27:12

Danny will be pleased.

0:27:120:27:14

Ooh, lovely! So, we'll put that on Paul's pop-up rostrum, won't we?

0:27:140:27:17

-Yeah.

-And hopefully get a good amount for that.

0:27:170:27:19

Yes. And I've got three pairs of tickets as well.

0:27:190:27:21

Absolutely fabulous!

0:27:210:27:23

-These were donated.

-Paul, you are an absolute diamond, mate.

-OK.

0:27:230:27:27

Great work, Danny.

0:27:270:27:28

He's still none the wiser.

0:27:280:27:30

While Danny's busy sorting the bric-a-brac

0:27:310:27:33

and setting up the rostrum...

0:27:330:27:36

-Hey!

-..more donations are coming in.

0:27:360:27:39

-Are you a golfer?

-I used to be!

0:27:390:27:40

-You used to be.

-Not any more.

-I wish I'd played golf.

0:27:400:27:44

I'd know what I was selling!

0:27:440:27:46

But what I do know about is furniture,

0:27:460:27:49

and Danny's got something to show me.

0:27:490:27:51

Danny, our upcycled items, I can hardly recognise them.

0:27:510:27:55

This bookcase, it was full of cobwebs, it was full of dirt.

0:27:550:27:58

To put it politely, it was a real rough piece.

0:27:580:28:00

But it's solid wood, 1930s, and I tell you what,

0:28:000:28:03

they've done an absolutely fantastic job on it, haven't they?

0:28:030:28:06

Yeah, they have, actually, yeah. I like the sort of palatable colours,

0:28:060:28:10

it's quite nice and soft.

0:28:100:28:11

So, that's good. Hopefully there's £20 there.

0:28:110:28:14

And that looks a bit different.

0:28:140:28:15

Nice dovetailing on the sides, as you can see.

0:28:150:28:17

It's been waxed, it's been sanded.

0:28:170:28:20

I like the through dovetails, you know, they're not stopped dovetails.

0:28:200:28:23

You can see the end grain on them, so they go right through,

0:28:230:28:25

which is the traditional technique from, let's say,

0:28:250:28:27

the early part of the 17th century.

0:28:270:28:29

I won't be disappointed at 15 and I'd be very happy at 30.

0:28:290:28:32

It sounds like you're covering yourself there, Paul!

0:28:320:28:35

With everyone working hard to make the stalls look enticing...

0:28:360:28:39

You're not going in there, are you?

0:28:390:28:42

-I've had my arm twisted.

-Dave...

0:28:420:28:44

I can see the people of Brownhills really getting into the spirit.

0:28:440:28:47

Now, look, there's room for two.

0:28:470:28:50

Yeah.

0:28:500:28:51

With a bit of persuasion.

0:28:510:28:53

I'm worried, I'm...

0:28:530:28:54

Danny! Oh, no, don't, this is cruel!

0:28:540:28:57

This is absolutely cruel!

0:28:570:28:58

Ooh!

0:29:000:29:01

That was unlucky. That was a bad shot, that was!

0:29:010:29:04

What great sports!

0:29:040:29:05

And with more and more donations coming in, I'm feeling positive.

0:29:050:29:09

The plant stand looks fantastic!

0:29:090:29:12

Look at that!

0:29:120:29:13

And I love this as well!

0:29:130:29:15

We're going to need all of this

0:29:150:29:17

because we want everybody today to dig deep.

0:29:170:29:19

That's what it's all about.

0:29:190:29:21

The crowds have turned out in their numbers

0:29:210:29:23

and it's time for the grand opening.

0:29:230:29:26

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for turning up today.

0:29:260:29:29

This is what I call people power.

0:29:290:29:31

Let's get this party started, shall we, with a five...

0:29:310:29:35

-ALL:

-Four, three, two, one...

0:29:350:29:38

Here we go, it's now or never!

0:29:380:29:40

Good luck.

0:29:400:29:42

It's time for the selling to start and, within moments,

0:29:490:29:51

I've got a buyer for Bob's hall seat.

0:29:510:29:54

I noticed you've been looking at this, haven't you?

0:29:540:29:56

-I have, yes. How much is it?

-You've got £10 in your hand.

0:29:560:29:59

-I have, yes.

-Can we call that a deal?

0:29:590:30:00

-Is that all right?

-Yes.

-Thank you.

-We'll shake on that.

0:30:000:30:03

We'll shake on that, I won't go back on it.

0:30:030:30:05

In fact, it's so busy, I've been drafted in as a stallholder.

0:30:050:30:08

Thank you. £5, there you go, brilliant.

0:30:080:30:11

How about £5?

0:30:110:30:13

-Can I keep ten?

-Yes, you can.

-Oh, bless you.

0:30:130:30:16

I'm really getting into this now.

0:30:160:30:18

It's really lovely because it's got an Art Nouveau look.

0:30:180:30:21

-Yes.

-Almost that Glasgow School to it.

0:30:210:30:23

And Danny's finding the selling just as easy as I am.

0:30:230:30:26

-£7.

-£7.

0:30:260:30:28

I'll give you £10.

0:30:280:30:30

-Ooh, even better!

-OK.

0:30:300:30:32

Even better! That's lovely.

0:30:320:30:34

Well, so far, so good.

0:30:340:30:35

People are spending money.

0:30:350:30:37

Now, over my shoulder, you can see Paul.

0:30:370:30:39

He's standing there by the West Brom stand,

0:30:390:30:41

so I'm going to go and have a chat to him, hopefully.

0:30:410:30:44

Wish me luck because I don't want to give anything away.

0:30:440:30:47

-What's your name?

-Paul.

-Brilliant name. I'm a Paul, as well.

0:30:470:30:49

-Yes.

-What's your name?

-Sam.

0:30:490:30:51

-Ashlee.

-Ashlee, I love your hat!

0:30:510:30:53

-And I love your...

-Isabel, nice to meet you.

0:30:530:30:55

Oh, pleased to meet you guys!

0:30:550:30:56

-Where's your daddy, then?

-My dad's here.

0:30:560:30:59

Oh, I see, right. Sorry, Dad, I didn't know that.

0:30:590:31:01

So obviously you're all West Brom fans, then?

0:31:010:31:03

-ALL:

-Yeah.

-Yeah?

0:31:030:31:05

When you guys score a goal, how do you celebrate?

0:31:050:31:07

-BOTH:

-We go...

0:31:070:31:08

Oink, oink, oink!

0:31:080:31:10

And I believe it was you that donated all of this,

0:31:100:31:12

and some other things, when Danny was doing the rummage?

0:31:120:31:14

Yeah, I mean, some of the stuff we've donated ourselves

0:31:140:31:17

and some of it has come through the foundation.

0:31:170:31:19

I'll be checking the floats, make sure they're full.

0:31:190:31:21

-OK.

-Yeah.

-I'm relying on you two.

0:31:210:31:23

-Yep.

-Because otherwise there will be no...

0:31:230:31:24

Hey, hey, hey, hey!

0:31:240:31:26

Oink, oink, oink, oink.

0:31:260:31:27

Phew! I don't think Paul has a clue all of this is for him!

0:31:270:31:31

Fingers crossed we keep it that way.

0:31:310:31:33

Now Danny's doing a double-take...

0:31:330:31:35

See you later, Felicity.

0:31:350:31:37

Nice to meet you. Oh, that's Felicity.

0:31:370:31:39

-You're...

-No, I'm Felicity.

0:31:390:31:40

-No, you're Fel...

-She's Tiffany.

0:31:400:31:42

That's what I mean.

0:31:420:31:43

..before finding a buyer for Ron's antique iron...

0:31:430:31:46

-It's a bit heavy?

-It's a bit...

0:31:460:31:48

Yeah. It's a bit heavy, as well.

0:31:480:31:50

Lovely. That will do.

0:31:500:31:52

With the party in full swing, I'm going to meet Rich Hooper,

0:31:520:31:55

whose father's life Paul saved.

0:31:550:31:58

My dad was doing a light coaching session. They had a short break.

0:31:580:32:01

During the break, my dad collapsed, so Paul started performing CPR until

0:32:010:32:05

the ambulance crew arrived.

0:32:050:32:07

-Wow!

-He did everything right that day.

0:32:070:32:10

The more I hear about the work he does with the foundation and the

0:32:100:32:12

community, it's just a testament to the type of person he is.

0:32:120:32:16

What would have happened if Paul wasn't there that day?

0:32:160:32:18

He would have been dead, you know,

0:32:180:32:20

no-one would have got to him quick enough.

0:32:200:32:21

He's got no brain damage and it's like it never happened.

0:32:210:32:25

-Wow!

-So it's a miracle, really.

0:32:250:32:27

What a fantastic story.

0:32:270:32:29

Oh, thank you very much.

0:32:290:32:31

Oh, thank you very much.

0:32:310:32:32

Paul is a hero without a doubt and well-loved here,

0:32:320:32:35

if Danny's donations are anything to go by.

0:32:350:32:38

Oh, thank you very much.

0:32:380:32:39

-You're welcome, sir.

-Let me give you a kiss for that.

0:32:390:32:41

I've met someone who has brought along something rather special.

0:32:410:32:44

Oh, that's really sweet.

0:32:440:32:46

Was that yours when you were a kid?

0:32:460:32:48

No, it was my two daughters'.

0:32:480:32:50

It's '50s, isn't it?

0:32:500:32:51

It's 51 years old.

0:32:510:32:53

The first rocking horses dated back to the 17th century,

0:32:530:32:57

when wooden ones first appeared in Europe.

0:32:570:32:59

This is a great mid-20th century one and vintage stuff is really on

0:32:590:33:03

trend at the moment.

0:33:030:33:04

I like it a lot.

0:33:040:33:06

Oh, can we sell this on our pop-up rostrum?

0:33:060:33:09

-Yes, you can.

-It's got that look, it's got the retro look.

0:33:090:33:13

I'd love to get £30-40 for that.

0:33:130:33:15

-Yeah, I hope you do.

-Yeah.

0:33:150:33:16

I'm geed up and Danny's found a buyer for Bob's lamp.

0:33:170:33:20

How much did you buy that for?

0:33:200:33:22

-£5.

-I tell you what, you've done well there.

0:33:220:33:24

And he's found Ron and Beryl from the rummage day.

0:33:240:33:27

Jigsaw puzzles and puzzles and the iron and everything -

0:33:270:33:30

we've sold them. They're gone.

0:33:300:33:32

So on that note, I'm going to get out there and try and push it a little bit.

0:33:320:33:35

-Oh, yes. You've got to do your work.

-I've got to do my bit and I'll see you a bit later.

-Yeah.

0:33:350:33:39

Nice to see you.

0:33:390:33:40

There's still lots left to sell.

0:33:400:33:41

I'm worried we're not going to make our target.

0:33:410:33:44

We need one last push.

0:33:440:33:46

Right now, we have ten minutes left before we close the stalls,

0:33:460:33:50

so everything on the stalls is just 50p, OK?

0:33:500:33:55

With a mad rush of buying,

0:33:570:33:58

I'm taking the opportunity to have a quick chat with Lisa.

0:33:580:34:02

Has he twigged anything?

0:34:020:34:04

He hasn't twigged, no,

0:34:040:34:05

simply because it's being billed as a work thing.

0:34:050:34:08

-He's going to be in for a good surprise.

-I know.

0:34:080:34:10

-How is he going to take it?

-Er, well, you might reduce him to tears.

0:34:100:34:13

I don't know. I don't know.

0:34:130:34:14

Well, you know him better than we do.

0:34:140:34:16

I know, yeah. I don't know.

0:34:160:34:18

Well, look, I really hope that he takes this so well.

0:34:180:34:21

-He will, I'm sure he will.

-And doesn't blame you lot for fibbing

0:34:210:34:24

-and telling lies.

-He can't blame me because it's got nothing to do with me!

0:34:240:34:27

Great to see the secret is still safe.

0:34:270:34:30

I just hope Danny doesn't let slip to Isabel.

0:34:300:34:33

You had a hat on a minute ago, didn't you?

0:34:330:34:35

Yeah. I left it on the table.

0:34:350:34:37

I see somebody else, she looks very much like you.

0:34:370:34:39

-Yeah.

-Who's that?

0:34:390:34:40

Ashlee, my sister.

0:34:400:34:42

Oh, is it? Have you got a sister?

0:34:420:34:43

-Yeah.

-She looks very much like you.

0:34:430:34:45

Since I announced everything was 50p, look at that,

0:34:470:34:50

they all went mad and bought the plants...

0:34:500:34:52

Except for this spade, so do you know what I'm going to do?

0:34:520:34:55

I'm going to sell that on the rostrum.

0:34:550:34:56

While we tot up the money, don't forget,

0:34:580:35:01

we sent a few items to the sale room and here's how they got on under

0:35:010:35:05

auctioneer Gavin Aplin's hammer.

0:35:050:35:07

First up, it's the collection of tools Danny found.

0:35:070:35:10

A collection of vintage and sort of contemporary gardening tools,

0:35:100:35:13

you see them all there. Ten, I've got 12, I've got now 14.

0:35:130:35:16

Come back, please.

0:35:160:35:17

At £12, chasing 14 and 16, please.

0:35:170:35:20

At 14, after 16.

0:35:200:35:22

At £14, after 16.

0:35:220:35:24

At £14...

0:35:240:35:25

What a shame. I was hoping for at least £30.

0:35:270:35:30

Now it's the rocking chair that has a lovely look of Ercol about it.

0:35:300:35:34

76 is the prewar century vintage Shaker-style beechwood rocking chair.

0:35:340:35:39

Sits very pretty there.

0:35:390:35:40

Rock yourself to sleep of an evening.

0:35:400:35:42

Where shall we start with this, then, please?

0:35:420:35:44

Ten and away, then, please. Ten I have in the room.

0:35:440:35:47

First Internet, sorry.

0:35:470:35:48

In the room, come back, 12, if you like, at £10 in the room.

0:35:480:35:50

Surely not at £10.

0:35:500:35:52

Oh, dear. Now I'm nervous about reaching our target.

0:35:540:35:57

I hope Danny's got better news from the stalls.

0:35:570:35:59

We made a grand total of £24 from the auction.

0:36:010:36:05

Well, to be honest, Paul,

0:36:050:36:07

we didn't exactly send the Crown Jewels to the auction room.

0:36:070:36:09

No, you didn't, did you? What have we made here today from the stalls?

0:36:090:36:12

-780.

-Which gives us a total of just over £800.

0:36:120:36:16

£804. So that's quite a way off of 1,200.

0:36:160:36:20

We need £400 out of that lot.

0:36:200:36:22

You can do it. We've got some good pieces on that pop-up auction.

0:36:220:36:24

-Right, come on, then.

-Right.

-Let's go for it.

0:36:240:36:27

It's a huge task for the community now.

0:36:270:36:30

I think this one is going down to the wire.

0:36:300:36:33

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for turning up today.

0:36:340:36:37

OK, we've had a tally up and we're still short of our target,

0:36:370:36:41

so we need you now to dig deep.

0:36:410:36:43

Right, lot number one, the first of our upcycled items.

0:36:430:36:46

This book shelf was in a very sorry state when Danny found it.

0:36:460:36:50

Thank you. Five, six, seven.

0:36:500:36:52

Now, seven. £7.

0:36:520:36:53

I think this is going in your bedroom, isn't it?

0:36:530:36:55

£7. Do you like the colours?

0:36:550:36:56

It's going once, twice, sold.

0:36:560:36:58

Thank you very much.

0:36:580:37:00

She's got a bargain.

0:37:000:37:01

Can our other upcycled item do any better?

0:37:010:37:03

-This is lovely.

-It's a small, handmade wooden box.

0:37:030:37:06

Thank you, straight in. Five, eight.

0:37:060:37:08

Eight. Eight, can I take your ten?

0:37:080:37:11

Ten, brilliant.

0:37:110:37:12

£10. 12.

0:37:120:37:14

14. £14 and I'm selling at 14.

0:37:140:37:16

Sold. 14.

0:37:160:37:18

If these first two items are anything to go by,

0:37:180:37:21

we're going to struggle to make our target.

0:37:210:37:23

Next up, the dartboard.

0:37:230:37:24

Come on, let's work this one up.

0:37:240:37:26

Ten, anywhere. Ten, 15.

0:37:260:37:27

20 now. 20. One more bid. 20.

0:37:270:37:30

£20 now, 25?

0:37:300:37:31

25, thank you.

0:37:310:37:33

Fair warning, I'm selling at £25.

0:37:330:37:35

It's going once, twice, sold.

0:37:350:37:38

25. Thank you.

0:37:380:37:40

That's more like it. And now for the football tickets Paul donated...

0:37:400:37:43

How many of you are Baggies' fans here?

0:37:430:37:46

Yeah, come on, West Brom.

0:37:460:37:48

..which has got a couple in the crowd particularly excited,

0:37:480:37:51

enough for Isabel to make a bid.

0:37:510:37:53

And I'm selling at 30. It's going once, twice, sold.

0:37:530:37:56

And the other two lots of tickets also sold well.

0:37:560:37:59

Madam, it's with you at 25 and I'm selling at 25.

0:37:590:38:02

Sold, thank you.

0:38:020:38:03

Well done. Very well done.

0:38:030:38:06

The tickets fetched a combined total of £85,

0:38:060:38:09

but we're not there yet.

0:38:090:38:10

Can the golf clubs swing it for us?

0:38:100:38:13

It's going once, twice, sold.

0:38:130:38:14

£20.

0:38:140:38:16

That's a shame. I'd hoped for more.

0:38:160:38:18

Will the signed West Brom shirt

0:38:180:38:20

generate a bit more bidding interest?

0:38:200:38:22

20, 21, 22.

0:38:220:38:24

Rich fancies his chances...

0:38:240:38:26

Thank you, 24. It's with you at the back. 25. 30.

0:38:260:38:28

..but so does Gurdial.

0:38:280:38:30

-50.

-£50 is with me now.

0:38:300:38:32

50.

0:38:320:38:34

Round of applause. Thank you, sir. I'm going to sell at 50.

0:38:340:38:36

It's going once, twice, sold.

0:38:360:38:38

£50, brilliant.

0:38:380:38:40

What a great price and now for the shovel

0:38:400:38:42

that I rescued from the plant stall.

0:38:420:38:44

Who's going to give me £3 for this, surely?

0:38:440:38:47

Yes, thank you, two bids.

0:38:470:38:48

Three, four at the back. £4 at the back now.

0:38:480:38:51

Five, six, £6, seven at the back now, seven.

0:38:510:38:54

Sold, thank you.

0:38:540:38:56

That was a brilliant result and, for our final lot,

0:38:560:38:58

Kath's vintage rocking horse.

0:38:580:39:00

We are relying on this to do well to reach our target.

0:39:000:39:03

OK, ten. I've got a bid at ten.

0:39:030:39:06

£15 is with me now.

0:39:060:39:07

15. It's off to a slow start.

0:39:070:39:09

Thank you, sir. 16?

0:39:090:39:11

17, 18.

0:39:110:39:13

19, 20.

0:39:130:39:15

25, 30.

0:39:150:39:16

-Two hands here.

-35?

0:39:160:39:18

35, thank you. 50.

0:39:180:39:20

£50. Once, twice, sold. £50.

0:39:200:39:23

Well, that really romped home.

0:39:230:39:26

It might have just made the difference.

0:39:260:39:28

Time to make our final calculations

0:39:280:39:30

and see if we've reached our target.

0:39:300:39:33

Right, we now have a final total.

0:39:330:39:36

We've had a brilliant day,

0:39:360:39:38

but I think the round of applause goes to this big sea of faces

0:39:380:39:42

because we set out to raise a target of £1,200 today.

0:39:420:39:46

We didn't make £1,200.

0:39:460:39:48

It's been tough going.

0:39:480:39:50

We actually smashed it.

0:39:500:39:52

We made £1,348.

0:39:520:39:54

CHEERING

0:39:540:39:56

Yes!

0:39:560:39:57

Well done, Brownhills.

0:39:570:39:59

You are fantastic.

0:39:590:40:01

That's people power, the community coming together

0:40:010:40:04

for a very special event. Most of you know what this is all about -

0:40:040:40:08

one of you doesn't. We've told a few fibs to get this person here.

0:40:080:40:12

He's an unsung hero

0:40:120:40:14

and, believe me, the more Danny and I have heard about this person,

0:40:140:40:18

the more we feel we're doing the right thing, don't we?

0:40:180:40:21

-Absolutely.

-He's a Baggies fan.

0:40:210:40:23

Now, that doesn't really narrow it down

0:40:230:40:25

because all of you are Baggies fans, but I tell you what,

0:40:250:40:28

this guy's a fundraiser.

0:40:280:40:30

He's also a life-saver...

0:40:300:40:33

And he's right there. His name is Paul Glover!

0:40:330:40:36

-Dad!

-Gave him a big round of applause.

0:40:360:40:39

APPLAUSE

0:40:390:40:41

All of this, Paul, is for you.

0:40:440:40:46

Everybody's turned up to say a big massive thank you

0:40:460:40:49

because you are their champion.

0:40:490:40:50

Without you, a lot of people, Paul, would not be that happy, OK?

0:40:500:40:54

Gurdial, will you read what's in this envelope?

0:40:540:40:58

Dear Paul, your neighbours,

0:40:580:41:00

friends and colleagues want to show you how much they appreciate you and

0:41:000:41:03

all you do, and we know you are saving up

0:41:030:41:05

for a family holiday to Florida

0:41:050:41:07

and we want to help make it the holiday of a lifetime,

0:41:070:41:10

so we have got Disneyland passes for you and your whole family.

0:41:100:41:13

Yay!

0:41:130:41:15

How about that, girls?

0:41:150:41:17

Yeah!

0:41:170:41:19

Give us a hug. You're a special guy, do you know that?

0:41:250:41:27

You really are. I've heard so much about you.

0:41:270:41:30

-Thank you!

-Aw, bless you all.

0:41:300:41:32

-Dad's a champion, isn't he?

-Yeah.

-And he's a hero.

0:41:320:41:35

-He really is.

-Thank you, everyone.

0:41:350:41:37

I don't know what to say.

0:41:370:41:39

Yeah.

0:41:390:41:40

Gurdy, thanks for everything.

0:41:400:41:41

Yeah... I'm lost for words, honestly.

0:41:410:41:44

Thank you.

0:41:440:41:46

A very worthy cause indeed.

0:41:520:41:54

It's great to see so much local support.

0:41:540:41:57

The turnout is fantastic.

0:41:570:41:59

Well done to the community.

0:41:590:42:01

It was everything we could have wished for.

0:42:010:42:03

Oh, thank you.

0:42:030:42:04

Gobsmacked, shocked. We are quite new to the area, really.

0:42:040:42:07

It's incredible, the amount of people that have come.

0:42:070:42:10

I just do my job, you know.

0:42:100:42:12

But thank you, everyone. I can't thank you all enough.

0:42:120:42:15

I felt so like...

0:42:150:42:17

She was crying. I was so happy.

0:42:170:42:19

I was crying like crazy.

0:42:190:42:21

We're going to Disney World.

0:42:210:42:23

And it means the special...

0:42:230:42:25

It's a really special day for us and we could not wait to go.

0:42:250:42:29

It's something they've really wanted to do and we've wanted to do as

0:42:290:42:32

well for a long time. Paul's worked really hard.

0:42:320:42:35

As abroad, we haven't been as the six of us, ever.

0:42:350:42:37

It's been a massive stress, you know,

0:42:370:42:39

just trying to get the money together.

0:42:390:42:41

The bank balance seems to be going the wrong way, so it will make a

0:42:410:42:44

huge difference and, as I say, it's just their memories really.

0:42:440:42:47

We just want those memories together as a family.

0:42:470:42:49

They are going to have the holiday of their lifetime at Disneyland in

0:42:510:42:54

Florida, thanks to the community turning out here en masse.

0:42:540:42:58

We had a target of £1,200 and we smashed it for one very special guy.

0:42:580:43:03

I hope you enjoyed watching.

0:43:030:43:04

Join us again soon because, I tell you what,

0:43:040:43:06

we could be in your street the next time and this auction

0:43:060:43:09

could be for you. Goodbye.

0:43:090:43:10

Since the street auction,

0:43:120:43:14

Paul and the whole family have booked their holiday to Florida and

0:43:140:43:17

are enjoying planning all the fun things they're going to be doing there.
