# You are singing a song # You wake up in the morning | :00:27. | :00:39.
# We're going to sleep tonight... APPLAUSE AND CHEERING | :00:40. | :00:47.
Welcome to The One Show with Angela Scanlon. And the comedian 8 Out Of | :00:48. | :00:57.
10 Cats would put at the top of their Countdown of co-hosts, Jon | :00:58. | :01:01.
Richardson. Thank you to Amy MacDonald there. She will be | :01:02. | :01:04.
performing her new single, that's a treat. Are you excited? I am. Get | :01:05. | :01:10.
more excited. I can't believe I am about to say this, our guest is a | :01:11. | :01:15.
huge name in the world of politics, it's none other than the Chancellor | :01:16. | :01:19.
of Germany, Angela Merkel. I saw in the notes it was national treasure | :01:20. | :01:24.
Dame Judi Dench. I have questions all worked out for her. I am just | :01:25. | :01:30.
hearing in this ear that the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola | :01:31. | :01:33.
Sturgeon, is waiting in the wings to talk to us. We don't have all three, | :01:34. | :01:38.
do we? Sweating sweating and everyone was | :01:39. | :01:42.
talking over me. Vladimir Putin's mouth was going up and down, up and | :01:43. | :01:47.
down. You can't do this to me, I am Dame Judi Dench, a national | :01:48. | :01:54.
treasure. Google me. Ask Jeeves if it still exists. I believe | :01:55. | :01:58.
independence is better for you, better for me. Better for Scotland. | :01:59. | :02:06.
APPLAUSE It's the lady of many voices and | :02:07. | :02:14.
faces, Tracey Ullman! Thank you very much. Hats off to my | :02:15. | :02:20.
award-winning make-up team. Unbelievable what they do. So you | :02:21. | :02:25.
make your career in lampooning celebrities. Waiting for them to do | :02:26. | :02:29.
ridiculous things. You have had a gift this week from none other than | :02:30. | :02:35.
Beyonce. Have you seen - she's announced she's pregnant with this | :02:36. | :02:39.
lovely picture which I think looks like she's been sneesed on. I think | :02:40. | :02:45.
it's gorgeous! Do you? Yes, I do. It took our minds off the horrors going | :02:46. | :02:49.
on in the world politically. She's done a brilliant thing. Flowers and | :02:50. | :02:55.
satin. It's all going on. It's inspired a lot of people to recreate | :02:56. | :03:01.
it. Bizarrely, they're mostly blokes. Very clever use of a mint | :03:02. | :03:12.
green scarf there. And this guy. Oh! He has second trimester written all | :03:13. | :03:16.
over him! What a time to find out you have | :03:17. | :03:21.
been papped going into your own fridge. More impersonations of | :03:22. | :03:26.
famous women shortly. We have a food experiment coming up. I am starving | :03:27. | :03:32.
and exciting. If you want to get in on the action at home find something | :03:33. | :03:40.
chocolate-y. This is all in ten minutes. So pop it back in the | :03:41. | :03:45.
fridge More and more of us are going contactless. Yes I have had a | :03:46. | :03:49.
contactless marriage for a number of years, since my child was born | :03:50. | :03:52.
especially. If you are using contactless payment you may be | :03:53. | :03:54.
interested in this stern warning from Dan Donnelly. | :03:55. | :04:00.
The contact last bank card, launched ten years ago, there's now more than | :04:01. | :04:05.
100 million in circulation. The idea is a simple one. You can | :04:06. | :04:09.
now spend up to ?30 with a single tap of your card. | :04:10. | :04:14.
But ever since the launch questions have been raised about their safety | :04:15. | :04:20.
and a decade on a shocking security flaw remains which means your | :04:21. | :04:23.
contact last card could be vulnerable to fraudsters. Because | :04:24. | :04:27.
some contactless cards can still be used, even after you have told your | :04:28. | :04:32.
bank they've been lost or stolen. That's exactly what happened to | :04:33. | :04:36.
journalist Emma Hartley from east London. Three of Emma's bank cards | :04:37. | :04:42.
were stolen when a thief pinched her handbag anoraked up a bill of ?130. | :04:43. | :04:47.
I cancelled the cards in my wallet. And I thought that was that. | :04:48. | :04:51.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. When I looked at my account a couple of | :04:52. | :04:56.
days later I could see there were series of transactions online that I | :04:57. | :04:59.
hadn't made. What did the bank say? Even though the cards had been | :05:00. | :05:03.
cancelled that there was not a lot they could do about people running | :05:04. | :05:08.
around using them. The onus was on you to police your account, not the | :05:09. | :05:12.
bank? Yes, I got the impression the bank had washed their hands of the | :05:13. | :05:16.
whole thing and it was down to me. I wouldn't have got any money back if | :05:17. | :05:20.
I hadn't made an issue of it, even though I cancelled the cards. Just | :05:21. | :05:25.
how easy is it for a fraudster to use a contactless card after it has | :05:26. | :05:28.
been cancelled? I feel a One Show test coming on. | :05:29. | :05:32.
This card was cancelled two days ago. Now the bank told our | :05:33. | :05:36.
researcher the cancellation was instant and no one would be able to | :05:37. | :05:41.
use the card. Sounds foolproof, but let's find out. | :05:42. | :05:46.
First I try using the card in a newsagents. | :05:47. | :05:51.
Great. Paper, crisps and a drink. No problem. | :05:52. | :05:56.
In some shops the bank's security system kicked in and I was asked to | :05:57. | :06:02.
enter a pin. I will have to get some cash, sorry, | :06:03. | :06:09.
mate. But that didn't put the brakes on the shopping spree. Lovely, thank | :06:10. | :06:12.
you. That's lunch on the cancelled card too. | :06:13. | :06:16.
I thought the bank said this card was out of action. But what about | :06:17. | :06:23.
swiping it on a London tube's contactless reader? In our test the | :06:24. | :06:28.
card worked in one out of three shops. I only bought a spot of lunch | :06:29. | :06:34.
and a tube trip. Just imagine the contactless fun a fraudster could | :06:35. | :06:37.
have with our card and remember the bank said it couldn't be used. | :06:38. | :06:42.
Why is this happening? One explanation is that some contactless | :06:43. | :06:47.
payments are authorised at the retailer's card terminal, rather | :06:48. | :06:50.
than linking to the bank where they could be declined. | :06:51. | :06:55.
So what's being done to close this security loophole? Last month Rachel | :06:56. | :07:01.
Reefs MP raised the issue at a Treasury Select Committee meeting | :07:02. | :07:04.
with the financial conduct authority. With every bank that I | :07:05. | :07:09.
have spoken to it is possible to use their cards for contactless payments | :07:10. | :07:13.
even after it has been cancelled but what's is more worrying is that the | :07:14. | :07:17.
banks don't alert customers when they know that a cancelled card has | :07:18. | :07:22.
been used for a payment. What can parliament do to put pressure on the | :07:23. | :07:25.
industry over this flaw? I will continue pushing the banks and | :07:26. | :07:29.
regulator to do something about this and parliament have got to make sure | :07:30. | :07:33.
that the integrity of the system is maintained on behalf of our | :07:34. | :07:36.
constituents. We contacted the industry body and | :07:37. | :07:41.
the regulator responsible for protecting consumers against | :07:42. | :07:44.
financial fraud. But both declined our offer of April interview. | :07:45. | :07:49.
-- an interview. Ever feel like you are being short-changed? In a | :07:50. | :07:54.
statement the UK Card Association said every contactless card has an | :07:55. | :07:58.
inbuilt security check which means from time to time customers must | :07:59. | :08:03.
enter a pin. The financial conduct authority pointed out customers are | :08:04. | :08:09.
entitled to a full refund if fraudsters use contactless cards. | :08:10. | :08:12.
Both organisations say they are working to improve the current | :08:13. | :08:16.
systems for handling cancelled cards, although neither confirmed | :08:17. | :08:20.
what those improvements might be. That's of little consolation for | :08:21. | :08:25.
contactless customers like Emma who still checks for fraudulent | :08:26. | :08:28.
transactions on her account. I am angry because I didn't ask for these | :08:29. | :08:31.
cards in the first place, I got sent them. Nobody said would you like a | :08:32. | :08:35.
contactless card? I would rather take the extra two seconds and tap | :08:36. | :08:39.
in a number because it's not much of an inscreens, is it? | :08:40. | :08:42.
Like most people I have always assumed that if you tell your bank | :08:43. | :08:46.
to cancel your card, that's the end of it. But beware, as we have proved | :08:47. | :08:52.
today, cans logicaling a contactless card doesn't always mean your money | :08:53. | :08:56.
is safe. If you have lost or had your bank | :08:57. | :09:02.
card stolen keep checking your bank accounts and the bank will take care | :09:03. | :09:10.
of it. I saw you taking notes there. Didn't exactly go for buying | :09:11. | :09:14.
anything nice, did he? All the cards covered. It's the key information to | :09:15. | :09:19.
take from that video. Get something hasn'ty on board. That card is valid | :09:20. | :09:26.
for hours -- healthy. You are here obviously, the second series is | :09:27. | :09:29.
starting soon. Possibly ideas for series three for Judi Dench. With | :09:30. | :09:33.
the card. I am sick of this tapping, why can't they put it in the iris of | :09:34. | :09:41.
our eyes now, I will do it. Tap your eye. I don't care. I am tired of | :09:42. | :09:45.
having to carry stuff around. It's like chargers. I want to hold it up | :09:46. | :09:49.
to the sun for five minutes, come on! Let's get the technology going, | :09:50. | :09:57.
man. So slow! We fell in love with your delinquent Judi Dench. You have | :09:58. | :10:01.
new characters this series. Yes, yes. Let's look at Nicola Sturgeon. | :10:02. | :10:12.
Show her operation Iron-Bru. Imagine where the Scots reign supreme. There | :10:13. | :10:17.
is not one landmark that wouldn't look better with a tartan blanket | :10:18. | :10:31.
over it. The Sydney MacHarbour. Brilliant. You kind of play her as a | :10:32. | :10:37.
Bond villain almost. One of our writers saw her as a Bond villain | :10:38. | :10:41.
and she wants to take over the world. I love the way she says | :10:42. | :10:50.
world. Votes. I like her. You need a start point, with a character. | :10:51. | :11:00.
World! I can say that. Write a sketch. Like that. Tony Blair, | :11:01. | :11:05.
Gordon Brown. Alex Salmond. A lot to the side, to the side. A great voice | :11:06. | :11:10.
coach for her. Margaret Curran, thank you very much. Nailed it. Will | :11:11. | :11:17.
we be seeing Theresa May? That's if I get a third series, I have to. | :11:18. | :11:23.
When I saw those leathers trousers. Yeah! I bought some just in | :11:24. | :11:29.
anticipation. I didn't spend ?900 on them, you know. You can make your | :11:30. | :11:34.
own out of those sheets you get to put under things you put in your | :11:35. | :11:38.
oven. That's a nice tip. Can we make those on the next show. He is so | :11:39. | :11:45.
useful. It's been a big year politically. You do a - were you | :11:46. | :11:49.
worried, it's more aggressive the political atmosphere than even last | :11:50. | :11:52.
year for the first series, did you worry about it? It changed so | :11:53. | :11:58.
quickly and we had written a lot of Angela Merkel pieces and two days in | :11:59. | :12:02.
we had the Brexit vote and we had to rewrite stuff. It worked well for | :12:03. | :12:06.
her, it made it funny and more poignant actually. Nothing stays the | :12:07. | :12:11.
same. If I did do more I can't imagine where the world will be in a | :12:12. | :12:14.
year. It felt last year you could have a laugh. Now there is genuine | :12:15. | :12:26.
anger. Yeah, somebody used the word it's tumultuous: We have seen in the | :12:27. | :12:31.
States, Alec Baldwin who did the Trump stuff on Saturday Night Live. | :12:32. | :12:35.
We don't expect people in positions of power to react and engage. I | :12:36. | :12:40.
know. Or comment on that portrayal. We kicked it off with Spitting | :12:41. | :12:45.
Image. Bring back Spitting Image! Yeah, come on. We need them more | :12:46. | :12:50.
than ever. It's quick to do that after your pitch of a third series. | :12:51. | :12:54.
It's a brave move that. Pace yourself! You have had a lot of | :12:55. | :12:59.
guest stars as well this series. Fabulous actors. Some of them hard | :13:00. | :13:05.
to recognise. Yeah, guess who this is, viewers? This is the Murdoch | :13:06. | :13:12.
household. Who do you think that is? That's Murdoch himself, surely. Ben | :13:13. | :13:19.
Miller. Never! Oh, yes. Yeah, there he is, look. What? That is | :13:20. | :13:22.
remarkable. It was amazing. We had so much fun for a couple of days. | :13:23. | :13:29.
That alone, the lampooning of Murdoch means you have to show in. | :13:30. | :13:32.
It starts tonight at 9. 30pm on BBC One. Thank you. Moving on to food. | :13:33. | :13:38.
We are about to explore the Coralation between sound and, wait | :13:39. | :13:42.
for it, taste. Hang on, what is going on over there? | :13:43. | :13:51.
Dave! We know there is a shortage of lettuce, but seriously stop trying | :13:52. | :13:54.
to flog black market veg. It's not the time or the place. Unbelievable. | :13:55. | :14:00.
Here is Ricky on how sound can affect the way food tastes. | :14:01. | :14:05.
Whether it is disco... Rock. | :14:06. | :14:15.
Or pop. There no denying music affects how | :14:16. | :14:18.
we feel. Did you also know it can affect the | :14:19. | :14:26.
way food tastes? No, absolutely not. One man who is convinced taste and | :14:27. | :14:35.
tunes are entwined is a gastro physicist from Oxford University. | :14:36. | :14:40.
You have worked out which sound enhances which taste? That's right. | :14:41. | :14:47.
What does bitter sound like? It's a low pitch and Brassey. That would | :14:48. | :14:52.
make food taste more bitter? It has to have that taste to begin with, I | :14:53. | :14:56.
can't give you a glass of water. If you are giving something like | :14:57. | :15:04.
bittersweet like a chocolate mousse. What about creaminess? Nothing too | :15:05. | :15:12.
sharp, nothing too changing. You are trying to capture or mimiy the | :15:13. | :15:21.
experience. Then sour? Ready? Oh! That made me do that sour face. | :15:22. | :15:28.
That's oshl. Although studies show sound does affect taste we don't | :15:29. | :15:32.
know why. One theory is linked to our early years. Newborn babies will | :15:33. | :15:43.
stick their tongues out. And do that for something bitter tasting. You | :15:44. | :15:49.
think about the sounds a baby would make. There is a change in the sonic | :15:50. | :15:51.
quality. I have invited catering students who | :15:52. | :16:08.
are training to be chefs. They think they'll try two new versions of my | :16:09. | :16:12.
classic dishes. In reality they are the same as they've always been. The | :16:13. | :16:15.
only thing which is changing are the beats. Charles, some of those noises | :16:16. | :16:22.
we heard before, people would not stay around to eat the food. How do | :16:23. | :16:28.
we make them more pallal table for our customers. Say are there any | :16:29. | :16:35.
tracks they want to listen to. As the diners tuck into their first | :16:36. | :16:40.
course, a lemon sorbet, there's no background music. It is rated for | :16:41. | :16:45.
taste. For the second sorbet, the same as the first, DJChaz adds some | :16:46. | :16:53.
seasoning which should make it more sour. Do they feel for his | :16:54. | :17:00.
psychological trick? I preferred the second one it was more creamy T | :17:01. | :17:04.
second was more bitter. I found the second was creamy. The bitterness | :17:05. | :17:09.
was lower. I think I preferred the second because it was more sour. | :17:10. | :17:13.
Virtually all of them thought the second sore bay was more sour, just | :17:14. | :17:23.
-- sorbet was more sour. On to the next course, the beats should help | :17:24. | :17:30.
it taste more creamer. The music in the second serving should lessen the | :17:31. | :17:33.
creaminess, despite it being the same dish. I preferred the first | :17:34. | :17:39.
than the second. The sauce was more creamy. The second was more creamy | :17:40. | :17:49.
than the first one. Will the DJ redeem himself with desert. The | :17:50. | :17:54.
music should help bring out the bitterness. The track for the second | :17:55. | :17:57.
serving should make it taste sweeter. But does it? I thought the | :17:58. | :18:03.
second dish was sweeter. I liked the second one, it was more sweeter than | :18:04. | :18:08.
the first one. He's done. Overall the group thought dish two was | :18:09. | :18:13.
sweeter. Time to reveal all. Guys, I have got a confession to | :18:14. | :18:17.
make. All the food you've eaten today has been identical. The only | :18:18. | :18:20.
difference has been the music. That's been all down to DJChaz, who | :18:21. | :18:27.
is not a DJ at all, he's a professor. Well done, with a hit of | :18:28. | :18:33.
two out of three, he proves his pick of the pops were really | :18:34. | :18:39.
taste-tastic! We could not do a food and music item without a musician, | :18:40. | :18:45.
would we? Please welcome Amy MacDonald. | :18:46. | :18:47.
Dig in girls. First of all, take a bite. Savour it. | :18:48. | :18:58.
You got it? Now, let's get DJ Chaz to hit the beats. | :18:59. | :19:06.
Another bite with this melody ringing in your ears. Right! How | :19:07. | :19:15.
does the second taste? It does taste more sweeter... Do you know t first | :19:16. | :19:19.
tasted like lemon. The second doesn't. It was rank the first time | :19:20. | :19:29.
and now it a east not. I am bare concentrating... It obviously worked | :19:30. | :19:34.
for you. Did it work for you guys over there? Green, yes. For green, | :19:35. | :19:41.
wow! I think that's... Is it a winner. A split there. | :19:42. | :19:47.
If you've had a go at home, let us know whether your pork pie was | :19:48. | :19:51.
sweeter the second time or whether the dog is giggling into his Winalt! | :19:52. | :19:59.
You will perform your new song, what effect will it have on people's | :20:00. | :20:05.
dinners? It will be incredible. It will be like Heston has been in the | :20:06. | :20:11.
house and cooked for them. Your new album, Under Stars is out - how is | :20:12. | :20:17.
that? It is so strange making an album. You spend so much time making | :20:18. | :20:20.
sure everything is right, then you kind of live with it for ages and | :20:21. | :20:24.
then you have to wait until people hear it. You sit there hoping they | :20:25. | :20:30.
will like it. You had a good goal for this album. You are not after a | :20:31. | :20:38.
second-hand Volvo, you are after something nicer. When I was on top | :20:39. | :20:45.
gear, my goals are certain models of cars. So, over the year it has kind | :20:46. | :20:50.
of grown. It is currently the Bugatti Chiron. | :20:51. | :20:56.
So you are a full-on petrol head? I always have been. I never really | :20:57. | :21:00.
spoke about it. On Top Gear you obviously have to speak about it and | :21:01. | :21:05.
I was completely blown away by the positive response I got. The whole | :21:06. | :21:09.
petrol head gang, it is an amazing little community and people just | :21:10. | :21:13.
getting in touch, saying, I'm a fan now, all the way over in South | :21:14. | :21:16.
Africa or the United States, just from seeing you on Top Gear. It was | :21:17. | :21:22.
quite a cool thing to do. A whole new audience as well. I'm going to | :21:23. | :21:28.
get on tour and getted a nice, new Fiesta. Now, the Six Nations kicks | :21:29. | :21:34.
off with Scotland verses Ireland. England verses France and Italy | :21:35. | :21:39.
verses Wales on Sunday. My school memories of rugby are | :21:40. | :21:46.
ritual humiliation in the showers and being dumped face-first in the | :21:47. | :21:51.
mud. Thankfully it is not like for everyone. My name is Maggi Alphonsi. | :21:52. | :21:56.
Some people call me Maggi the machine. I retired fwh 2015 as a | :21:57. | :22:02.
flanker in women's rugby. I felt I had achieved all I could. 74 caps | :22:03. | :22:07.
for England. Seven titles in the Six Nations and a World Cup. Right wing | :22:08. | :22:12.
the world champions! I have come a long way from where I grew, here in | :22:13. | :22:17.
Edmonton, North London. When I was younger nobody would have thought I | :22:18. | :22:21.
was destined for a life in sport. When I was born, I was born with a | :22:22. | :22:26.
physical disability called club foot. My right foot was turned all | :22:27. | :22:30.
the way in. It is challenging when you are a kid you want to be active. | :22:31. | :22:36.
Mum made sure my foot was eventually corrected. A Nigerian background, so | :22:37. | :22:41.
her attitude to school and education is very much around, you work hard | :22:42. | :22:47.
and you will get rewards. To my mum's horror, school proved | :22:48. | :22:50.
difficult for me. Wow! This is amazing! This was not here when I | :22:51. | :22:55.
was at school. I would always just be boisterous, | :22:56. | :23:02.
loud and try and be funny. So I would disrupt the lesson. It got to | :23:03. | :23:07.
the point where they were like, right, we might have to expel you | :23:08. | :23:12.
from the school. What we will do is call your mum in and explain what | :23:13. | :23:16.
you have been doing why you have been so naughty. I was disappointed | :23:17. | :23:20.
and angry at myself. I knew I had to get something out of school. I threw | :23:21. | :23:22.
myself into sport. And I passionately believe that | :23:23. | :23:34.
every young person should get the chance to experience the benefits of | :23:35. | :23:39.
sports in schools as I did. It was my old PE teacher who first set me | :23:40. | :23:42.
on the path to success. How you doing? It is great to see you. How | :23:43. | :23:49.
does she remember me? Enthusiastic. Full of enthusiasm. Inspirational as | :23:50. | :23:54.
well. What I remember you is how you encouraged all the kids to take part | :23:55. | :23:59.
in sport. It didn't matter what it was, you were there having a go. I | :24:00. | :24:04.
am fortunate, that if it was not for you u I would not be where I am now. | :24:05. | :24:10.
One day coming into school you had a blooshot eye, bruises and I remember | :24:11. | :24:14.
asking, Miss, what sport do you do? I remember being amazed by the fact | :24:15. | :24:20.
you played rugby union. So she suggested I go to my local rugby | :24:21. | :24:25.
club, Saracens, as a way to channel my energies. I made my first tackle | :24:26. | :24:29.
on a tackle pad and I absolutely loved it! | :24:30. | :24:34.
My mum was never a massive fan, but I think once I started going to it | :24:35. | :24:39.
and she saw how much of a difference it made to my education, my school | :24:40. | :24:43.
life, she saw it as a very positive thing and supported me 100% really. | :24:44. | :24:47.
I committed myself to my work at school and to my training and I went | :24:48. | :24:52.
on to get very good GCSEs and then went on to university and so on. It | :24:53. | :24:56.
was a positive start to my life, really. | :24:57. | :25:02.
And today, I'm going to share my life lessons with the students of my | :25:03. | :25:05.
old school. To the human eye this is a rugby | :25:06. | :25:10.
ball. But to me, this ball saved my life. So at the age of 14 I went to | :25:11. | :25:16.
my local rugby club, Saracens and for the first time people were | :25:17. | :25:21.
saying to me, wow, you're strong, be aggressive, be strong. Where as at | :25:22. | :25:25.
school I was told, don't do that, you are too aggressive, too strong. | :25:26. | :25:29.
After that I set my first goal. That was to represent my country in rugby | :25:30. | :25:34.
union. Five years later, at the age of 19, I got the phone call from the | :25:35. | :25:37.
England head coach. So I thought, do you know what I want to be a world | :25:38. | :25:41.
champion, I want to be the best in the world. I want people to know my | :25:42. | :25:47.
name and about the England's women's rugby team. Became world champions. | :25:48. | :25:51.
It is the biggest thing for women's sport. You make your own luck. If | :25:52. | :25:55.
you work hard, opportunities will come. And things will fall into | :25:56. | :25:58.
place. Doesn't matter where you come from, | :25:59. | :26:02.
a council estate down the road, you can be whoever you want to be. You | :26:03. | :26:07.
will only get that if you step out of your comfort zone and work hard. | :26:08. | :26:11.
It will not be easy. Of if you work hard will you achieve what you want | :26:12. | :26:12.
to achieve. Thank you. Enjoy the rugby this | :26:13. | :26:23.
weekend. We hope everybody's team wins and everybody has a lovely day. | :26:24. | :26:29.
I have chocolate on my teeth. On the plus side you have more for later. A | :26:30. | :26:35.
massive thank you to Tracey. Thank for coming out in the cold. Tracey's | :26:36. | :26:42.
show is on tonight, BBC One, 9pm. Thank you to Jon as well. Stephen | :26:43. | :26:51.
Mangan will be with us on Monday. Now performing her new song, Under | :26:52. | :26:57.
