Hi, I'm Andy. I run the prehistoric gallery here at the National Museum.

Today, I've been working on a new display about a dinosaur

that looked really big but was actually small.

Follow me, I'll explain.

-Hi, Jen.

-Oh, hello, Andy.

There we go. What are you up to?

I'm trying to work out what type of reeds these are in the picture.

What do you mean?

I know that's a sauropod dinosaur and they were huge,

so the reeds next to them must have been huge as well.

But I can't find anything on the internet

about giant prehistoric reeds.

Just normal-sized ones, like those.

That's because it's not the reeds that are big,

-it's the dinosaur that's small.

-Oh.

But I thought sauropod dinosaurs were massive, as big as a house.

Most of them were but this dinosaur was very special.

It's called Magyarosaurus. It only grew to about the size of a pony.

Why were they so small?

Because on the prehistoric island where they lived,

there weren't enough plants to feed big dinosaurs,

so Magyarosaurus got smaller and smaller.

Mrs Pickles gave me these reeds. She thinks they used to eat them.

Well, it says here that reeds are very sensitive plants

and need plenty of water.

Oh, I'd better water them then, before we go home.

Um... Ah!

Here we go.

A nice, refreshing drink.

Oh, no!

-Oops!

-Are you sure that was water?

I think it was cleaning polish.

They're ruined!

Mrs Pickles will be so upset.

I can't show her her reeds looking like this.

-Can we buy some more?

-It's too late, all the shops will be shut.

There's just not enough time.

I've made it!

I've travelled back 70 million years to the time of Magyarosaurus.

And look, I'm in the perfect spot.

There are reeds everywhere.

This is going to be the quickest adventure ever.

Um...

There we go.

Well, that was easy enough.

Time to head...

Hang on.

It's a footprint.

And they're leading all the way over there.

Just as I thought. It's a Magyarosaurus.

I've never seen one of those before.

Oh, I've got plenty of time.

I could have a quick look and then head straight back.

Yes. I mean, what's the worst that can happen?

What's that?

It's definitely not Magyarosaurus.

SQUAWKING

It's a whole group of Hatzegopteryx.

Giant flying reptiles the size of giraffes.

Look at the size of their beaks.

They could do some damage.

I've got to sneak past them. It's going to be tricky though.

I've got a good idea.

To the size of...

To the size of a puppy.

YAPPING

Perfect. Now they won't be able to spot me.

GROWLING

SQUAWKING

Wow, their beaks really are big!

Oh, that was a close call.

Right...now to find Magyarosaurus.

Yes! It's a whole herd of Magyarosaurus!

This is exactly what I wanted to see.

Hello, little fella. How are you doing?

That's it, eat your greens.

Hang on, these can't be Magyarosaurus, they're massive.

Oh, silly me! Of course - I'm still the size of a puppy!

No wonder they look giant.

Back to normal size.

There we go. What's that?

The Hatzegopteryx are back!

Oh...

Here he comes.

Whoa!

What are they up to?

They're looking for something.

Hmm, they don't seem interested in me.

I know what they're after.

The baby Magyarosaurus!

GROWLING

Oh, no!

Hey! Put him down, you big bully!

Now they're fighting over him.

Be careful you don't get stepped on.

Run for it, little guy!

Cor!

Yes, he got away.

Ha-ha! No dinner for you two.

The clock, he's got my clock!

Give that back.

Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to swim out to it.

Whoa!

On second thoughts, maybe swimming to it's not a good idea.

What am I going to do? Um...

My backpack. It's always full of useful things.

Right.

A miniature hairbrush?

Fast-acting glue?

How is all this going to help me?

Maybe if I'm quiet, I can sneak up and... Whoa!

Whatever's in the water has got lots of sharp teeth.

It's making me very jumpy.

Hang on.

Reeds.

Fast acting glue.

Ahh!

Hey presto! One prehistoric pole vault.

I just hope this glue holds.

Let's give it a go.

Whoa!

Time to head back.

Good morning, Jen. I'm just on my way to see Andy's new display.

It's always exciting to have a fresh new exhibit in the museum.

It might not be quite as fresh and new as usual, Mrs Pickles.

I'm just doing a spot of gardening for the display.

Ah, The miniature Magyarosaurus.

One of my favourite sauropods. Nice job, Andy.

Oh, I see you found a spot for my reeds.

But how on earth did you get them so lovely and fresh looking?

Plenty of water, Mrs Pickles.

And no cleaning polish. Sh!
