Karting Challenge Blue Peter Bite

It's challenge time and it's Lindsey versus Radzi.

Actually, it's Lindsey versus Barney. This is just a wig.

Whoa! I was ready to beat Radzi, but this is a different ball game.

-This is a motorsport game.

-Yes, and you love fast machines, don't you?

I do, but I'm not very good in these,

so we need top tips from someone who really knows how to drive it.

This is 14-year-old karting champion Enaam Ahmed.

He holds the record as the youngest ever driver to win the Go-Karting

Junior World Championship, and now his sights are firmly set on F1.

Making him the perfect coach for us today.

Wow!

-It looks amazing, doesn't it?

-That's how it's done.

-Enaam, how long have you been doing this?

-About seven years now.

I started when was eight years old.

-OK, a bit of a head start on us then!

-Yes, a bit of an expert.

Let's talk about the speed of the karts. How fast do they go?

The ones we'll drive today do about 50-60 mph

depending on how you drive them.

-Right, that's quite fast!

-Let's get down to business.

What's the secret to winning?

A lot of hard work, because that's what I had to base my skills on.

I didn't start off with pure talent. And a lot of determination.

OK. Barney, there's an F1 car over there!

You're kidding? I love those!

Enaam, seriously, top tips?

Take him out, give him a little nudge

-then he shouldn't be able to come back.

-OK. I think he's good at this.

That was a dirty trick! There's no F1 car over there.

-Let me guess, you were getting tips?

-Yes, that's right.

No! We both start equally. Top tips.

What do we need to do because we're not very good at this?

Brake efficiently. Carry good speed.

And get on the power and get a good exit.

It's another language. I didn't get a word of that.

There's only one way to find out, and that's to get in the car, I reckon.

It's all about experience.

-Good.

-Oh, great. 20 minutes.

'Here we go. Come on, Barney.'

'Yeah, I'm coming.'

'We're following Enaam to get a feel for the track.'

I want one!

'Yeah, I want one. Can I have one?'

Ha-ha!

'Slow and steady wins the race, Barney.'

'No, it doesn't, Linds.

'Speed is the key here.'

SHE SCREAMS

Is he nudging me?!

Well, we've had a few goes around the circuit.

I've spun more than I've gone in a straight line.

# I'm spinning around... #

You have to get everything into harmony.

Think of it like a dance.

You need loose hands and feet so you can feel everything.

At the moment, cos it's your first time, you're really tight,

so when the car does slide, you over correct it, or you slide too much.

My hand was numb.

-That's how hard I was clenching for dear life.

-Gripping too tight.

And, with that thought in mind, it's race time.

We'll be racing around the track for 20 minutes,

competing against each other in a timed trial.

With an on-board computer, our laps will be timed.

The person who hits the fastest single lap time will be the winner.

Cheating Russell at it again!

But Enaam is there to keep an eye on our progress.

Barney going into the hairpin.

Here comes Lindsey...and she's spun!

Ahhh! No!

Barney's away, and Lindsey needs to close in.

Now it's raining, we literally have no grip on the road.

It's starting to get more and more slippery now.

-Ahhh!

-That's what I was hoping for.

Lindsey's spun out.

It's so slippy!

Oh, and Lindsey has spun again.

Am I meant to be on the grass?

No-one saw.

Nobody saw that!

'Um, everyone saw that, Lindsey!'

Come on, Lindsey!

BARNEY LAUGHS

No!

Nooo!

Harwood's out, Harwood's out.

Haaa!

'Yes! Finally, it looks like I'm in with a chance.'

Barney is back on the track. He's got a lot of ground to make up.

-Lindsey's set some good lap times.

-What a silly mistake to make.

Oh, come on!

Ahh!

She's gone again!

She's facing backwards, and Barney has gone back into the lead.

Wow, it's really raining!

It's not about who goes across the finish line first.

It's about who did the fastest lap.

And that has got to be the wettest,

wildest,

most fun thing I have done in a long time.

Whoo!

Here she comes.

I felt like I was on an ice rink, but it was amazing.

It was like driving on ice. Now, we don't know who's won.

It doesn't matter who crossed the finish line first,

it's down to the fastest lap.

-Please be me.

And Barney's final time was 52.16 seconds,

which means he beat me by four seconds.
