Radzi and Lindsey's Golf Adventure Blue Peter Bite

LINDSEY: This is Blue Peter, but mini.

We've only got five minutes to get ready for your Blue Peter adventure.

This game is over 500 years old and, in that time,

golf has developed a language all of its own.

-Now, some of the clubs are called irons...

-That's right. Hello.

No, Linds, they're, erm... This is an iron.

-And some are known as woods.

-That's right.

No, this is a wood.

And one is even called a sand wedge.

-Cheese ploughman's.

-No.

I think I need some help.

Well, you're in luck, Linds.

Let me introduce you to two of the country's best golfers -

pro superstars Charley Hull

and Andrew "Beef" Johnston.

What is the very first thing we need to know?

First thing we'll probably do is start off with the grip.

You can't control how you hit the ball

unless you hold the club correctly.

-All right, first thing you do is left hand on top.

-OK.

-Like that.

That's it. And then right hand comes on, connects, and then you can

put your little finger over the top of that finger like that.

-Oh, wow.

-Or you can put them in between,

-whatever's more comfortable.

-Like that?

-Yeah.

-That?

-Yeah, so more in between, there.

-Ooh.

-OK.

-Yeah, there you go.

That's the grip sorted. What comes next?

For me, it's all about the stance.

The stance - how you stand when you hit the ball.

Without the right stance,

you don't stand a chance.

-First of all, put your feet together.

-Oh, together?

-Yeah.

-Right, yes.

-And then move your left foot a little bit to the left.

-OK.

And then your right foot, like, triple the distance to the right.

-So actually, my centre of balance is behind where the ball will be.

-Yeah.

That's a game-changer.

Grip sorted, stance sorted, what happens next?

Time to hit the ball.

That went a long way.

In golf, the way you hit the ball is called your swing,

something Charley just made look so easy.

Just practise clipping the blue tee on the practice swing.

-Without the ball there?

-Yeah, without the ball.

Yeah, like that, and then give it a go with the ball,

so you're trying to just hit the same spot every time.

'Now I have a feel for where I'm aiming, things start to improve'.

Shot.

'Mum, look at that!'

-A-ha-ha!

-That was a really good strike!

'I liked that one.'

Well, that's lucky, because the golf doesn't end there, Radzi.

As day becomes night, this place transforms into Topgolf.

Like normal golf, but hi-tech.

It's the perfect place for our next head-to-head challenge.

Topgolf is played around the world, and players earn points

by getting their ball into different parts of a target.

Now, today, we're each going to have ten balls

and the winner is the person that gets the most points

from that yellow target.

I love this challenge.

The yellow target we're aiming for has been split into nine parts,

and you can only score points on each section once.

But we're not playing alone. I'm teaming up with The Beef.

And I'm being joined by Charley.

It's time to do our swing.

'Me first. Watch me, Linds.'

Look...

Oh! Oh!

'Yeah, still watching, Radz.'

'OK, so no points for me. Come on, Charley, I'm keeping the faith.'

Oh, beautiful. Get in the nine!

'It's not nine, but it's a five. We'll take it.'

'OK, my turn'. Oh, way too far.

'Yeah, miles past the target.'

Oh, you! Go!

'Beef! What a start!'

'Me again.' No, it's not going to be a nine.

It's not even going to be in.

'OK, didn't hit the target, I'm just warming up.

'Come on, Charley, I believe in you. You can keep us in this.'

This is why they're professionals!

'That's what I'm talking about! We lead 14-9.'

Oh, it's a beauty!

-It's something.

-Yeah, yeah.

-It's a six!

'Back in the lead.'

'No-one scores for a full round, until Beef is back.'

-It's an eight, isn't it?

-He's got the eight!

'Yes! That gives us a nine-point lead.'

'Can we come back from this?

'Charley picks up another two points.'

-High scores.

-Yeah, I still need to figure that out.

That's the one. 'But Beef gets another one as well.'

'So, with one more round to go,

Lindsey's team leads 24-16.'

We can still win this.

I would ideally get an eight or a seven,

or just on target. Think eight.

Be great. No, just go in! Stay in. Stay in. Stay in, oh!

'Come on, Charley. Get an eight and we can draw. I believe in you.

-'Keep the faith.'

-Oh!

'Come on, eight! Come on, eight! Come on, eight!

'Oh, it's a one! Not enough!'

'Yes! The title's ours.'
