Epic Commando Challenge Blue Peter Bite

This is Blue Peter, but mini.

Expect epic adventures, makes, bakes, badges, pets,

presenters and your post.

We've only got five minutes, so get ready for your Blue Peter adventure.

Over the last 350 years,

the Royal Marines Commandos have become famous for being

one of the toughest, fittest and finest military forces on earth.

Training to become a Royal Marine Commando is gruelling

and happens right here.

We're about to join a group of recruits as they try to become

commandos and experience some of the training exercises they go

through on a daily basis to try and get a tiny taste of what it takes.

We're looking forward to working with Lindsey and Radzi to see

if they've got the fitness to get through the tests

and also to see if they've got the mental resilience to get cold, wet

and dirty and just carry on doing, just as our Royal Marines do.

We're taking on the legendary commando assault course.

If you want to be a marine, you have to conquer the course.

Recruits have to complete it in under five minutes,

carrying the weight of 13 bags of sugar in kit.

Under the watchful eye of instructor Ben, we just need to get around it.

Go!

First up, jumping the two-metre plunge pool.

Fantastic! Off to a wet start.

Now, if we're both going to clear this next obstacle,

we need to work together.

-Leg over.

-Leg!

-Go on, Linds.

-Cheers, Radz.

Here we go. Really fast.

-Go!

-Good. Stay nice and low.

After the energy-sapping crawl, it's onto the dreaded monkey bars.

First bar.

Good effort, Linds!

Yeah, I'm definitely wet now.

-Good. OK.

-I'm right behind you.

-OK.

As we get to the tunnel, every single one of my muscles is burning.

There's just one more obstacle left.

Come on, then, Radzi! Come on, then, Lindsey!

The massive 3.5-metre wall.

Come on, Lindsey!

Blue Peter!

Come on, sprint finish, Linds!

We are exhausted.

Guys, you honestly put in a really good effort there.

Working well as a team. That was good to see. Did you enjoy it?

Do you know what? I actually really liked it.

It's like a massive playground, but it's really, really challenging.

I found that really hard because I'm not the strongest,

and getting over those walls, I could not have done without Radzi.

But it was good. We did enjoy it. At least we're done now, right?

Not quite, I'm afraid.

If you could just take a look that way, you'll see the estuary there.

Shall we get a bit muddy?

The mud run involves recruits running from one point to another

through the energy-sapping mud for anything up to an hour.

So if these guys can keep going, following orders in this mud,

they can do it anywhere. But can we?

Away we go then, men! Hurry up!

Get down!

LINDSEY GROANS

Trust me, nothing prepares you for the mud.

THEY LAUGH AND GROAN

Just crawling through it is so difficult.

I've never done anything like this.

That expression, running through treacle, has never been so true.

This is... Look at that!

-Roll over!

-As if that wasn't enough...

How do I look? ..we're told to turn over.

On your back! Start crawling!

Push off with your legs! Come on!

-Push off with your legs!

-Toughest thing I've ever done!

Ben is not letting us get away with anything.

Away we go! Come on!

Let's go, guys! Let's move!

It's getting more and more difficult to keep going.

-And we've only been doing this for a matter of minutes.

-Away we go!

On your feet!

Start moving! Come on!

Come on, you two, let's go!

On your feet! In we go!

Thankfully, we're called in.

That was incredibly tough.

This is hands down...one of the craziest experiences of my life.

-I can't even speak.

-But for the recruits, that was just a warm-up.

Now they've got to carry both of us back to dry land.

On your shoulders! Move!

-Three, two, one, lift!

Boys, I'm sorry, Lindsey weighs 30 kilos less than me.

Their training really starts to show.

They work as a team and carry us across the mud,

making it look so easy.

And here's Radzi. He's home.

Well done, Radz. Well done, boys.

We've only had a tiny taste of what it takes

to cut it in this famous force.

It's been exhausting, but an absolute privilege.

Each and every one of these guys are incredible.

If you look up determination in the dictionary,

you'll see these guys because they're awesome.

It has been an honour to be here today.

Not just as a girl being part of the Royal Marines

just for 24 hours, but also as Blue Peter presenters.

-Because this is a rite of passage, isn't it, Radz?

-It absolutely is.

We've never looked so good,
