The London 2012 Olympic Games kick off on Friday

0:00:020:00:04

and, across the country, people are getting set

0:00:040:00:07

for the biggest sporting event the UK has ever seen.

0:00:070:00:10

Here in Middlesbrough,

0:00:100:00:11

12 kids are stepping up to the challenge of a lifetime -

0:00:110:00:14

to organise an amazing party for 1,000 people

0:00:140:00:17

in the heart of their town to celebrate the start of the Olympics.

0:00:170:00:22

So far this week,

0:00:220:00:23

kids from Middlesbrough have transformed Party HQ...

0:00:230:00:27

created an Olympic-inspired ice cream...

0:00:270:00:30

Oh... LAUGHTER

0:00:300:00:32

..and invented a new sport

0:00:320:00:34

-for hundreds to play at the live party tomorrow.

-Come on!

0:00:340:00:38

Today's challenge is to sort out the entertainment for the big bash.

0:00:380:00:42

With the help of CBBC presenter, Cel Spellman,

0:00:420:00:45

the kids need to audition local talent and cast their favourite,

0:00:450:00:49

who will get top billing at the event.

0:00:490:00:51

My head was pounding, cos I didn't know who to choose.

0:00:510:00:53

They also have to choreograph a dance routine

0:00:530:00:55

to teach to the party-goers tomorrow.

0:00:550:00:58

-We, together, can do this.

-That's my team!

0:00:580:01:00

This is CBBC's Olympic Games Challenge.

0:01:000:01:05

Sorting the entertainment is a big task,

0:01:070:01:11

but these three think they're up to it.

0:01:110:01:13

First up, 12-year-old budding filmmaker Peter.

0:01:130:01:16

I think I'm the right person,

0:01:160:01:17

because, like, I've got good ideas, like I'm creative.

0:01:170:01:21

Super organised busy bee, 12-year-old Chloe,

0:01:210:01:24

thinks she has what it takes to get this party going.

0:01:240:01:28

I had a lot of creative and imaginative ideas about the party,

0:01:280:01:31

cos I'm, like, very open-minded, I say what I think.

0:01:310:01:34

Finally, 12-year-old dance crazy Annalise

0:01:340:01:37

thinks she has the moves to get this show on the road.

0:01:370:01:40

I think I'm the right person to organise the entertainment,

0:01:400:01:43

because I bring a lot of energy and I'm very enthusiastic.

0:01:430:01:47

They may be confident, but this won't be an easy ride,

0:01:470:01:50

so, luckily, they won't be alone.

0:01:500:01:52

-Joining them centre stage is CBBC's Cel Spellman.

-..magician man witch!

0:01:520:01:57

Cel has been acting since a young age

0:01:570:02:00

and has gone on to appear in Waterloo Road and Friday Download.

0:02:000:02:04

I've been acting since I was seven

0:02:040:02:07

and so I was kind of taking on adult responsibilities at that age

0:02:070:02:09

and they're in year seven, taking on adult responsibilities.

0:02:090:02:12

They're putting on a show, which is what adults would do,

0:02:120:02:15

so I think I can kind of empathise

0:02:150:02:16

with how they're feeling and what they're doing.

0:02:160:02:18

Today, Annalise, Chloe and Peter are travelling

0:02:180:02:22

to CBBC HQ in Salford to meet mentor Cel for the first time.

0:02:220:02:26

I'm very excited about what's going to happen

0:02:260:02:28

and I think I'm getting quite nervous,

0:02:280:02:30

because we don't know everything that's going to happen yet.

0:02:300:02:32

-How do you think you feel? You're finally in Manchester...

-Excited.

0:02:320:02:36

I'm dead excited now I'm here and I'm not nervous no more.

0:02:360:02:39

-This is my dream team, is it?

-Yeah.

0:02:450:02:47

So I've set up a task for you, OK, but it's split into two parts.

0:02:470:02:50

The first part is you guys holding an addition process

0:02:500:02:55

and then you choose what sort of acts you want to be performing.

0:02:550:02:58

Then, you have to come up with a dance routine.

0:02:580:03:01

-Ooh!

-OK!

0:03:010:03:02

The team need to find local acts

0:03:020:03:04

and create a dance routine to teach to the party-goers tomorrow

0:03:040:03:08

and, to do all of that, they're going to need a bit of inspiration.

0:03:080:03:12

I've sorted out for you guys to go behind-the-scenes

0:03:120:03:15

-of the CBBC show Alesha's Street Dance Stars!

-Come on!

0:03:150:03:18

-How does this sound?

-Very exciting.

0:03:180:03:20

I felt very, like, quite scared,

0:03:200:03:22

because we've never done this sort of thing before.

0:03:220:03:24

I feel confident that we'll nail it.

0:03:240:03:26

Off to the set of Alesha's Street Dance Stars

0:03:260:03:28

to check out the best young dance crews

0:03:280:03:31

and find out what makes a great act.

0:03:310:03:33

# I'm on the floor, floor!

0:03:330:03:35

# I love to dance!

0:03:350:03:37

# So give me more, more... #

0:03:370:03:39

Watching the rehearsals,

0:03:390:03:40

the kids hope to get ideas for their dance routine.

0:03:400:03:43

They even get the chance to try out the judges' chairs in preparation

0:03:530:03:56

for their own casting session.

0:03:560:03:58

They've sat in the judges' seats, now they get to quiz them.

0:04:020:04:06

It's Dwayne and Turbo.

0:04:060:04:07

What do you look for in an act when selecting them for the show?

0:04:070:04:10

-Creativity.

-Presence.

0:04:100:04:12

-Hmm! Teamwork.

-Teamwork, definitely.

0:04:120:04:16

What they don't know is that

0:04:160:04:18

they'll be seeing one of the judges again later.

0:04:180:04:21

But first, the chance to ask the star of the show herself,

0:04:210:04:24

the amazing Alesha Dixon, what makes a great act.

0:04:240:04:27

What acts shall we include for our party?

0:04:270:04:30

I love singers, I love dancers, so I'd obviously have them,

0:04:300:04:33

but then, I'd like to have something different that people don't expect.

0:04:330:04:37

What do you think makes a great act?

0:04:370:04:39

I like people that genuinely, genuinely have

0:04:390:04:43

a passion for what they're doing and then, they become believable.

0:04:430:04:46

When they're believable, you relax, you enjoy it, you feel something.

0:04:460:04:50

What do you think is the best way to approaching a massive challenge?

0:04:500:04:54

Try not to feel overwhelmed by it or worry.

0:04:540:04:57

I would try to think really positive and have the attitude of,

0:04:570:05:00

"I can do this, we together can do this."

0:05:000:05:03

I felt really good that I've met Alesha, cos I always look up to her,

0:05:030:05:06

cos she's amazing, she's capable of doing loads of things,

0:05:060:05:08

so I always thought she'd be a good role model.

0:05:080:05:11

Armed with the advice from Alesha, the kids head back to Middlesbrough

0:05:110:05:14

to make a start on their dance routine.

0:05:140:05:17

They'll need to teach it

0:05:170:05:18

to crowds at the party for them all to perform.

0:05:180:05:21

Four, five, six,

0:05:210:05:23

seven and then eight!

0:05:230:05:25

-Spin?

-And then spin.

0:05:250:05:27

-Then five...

-Then it was one, two.

-No, cos you have to count to eight.

0:05:270:05:31

So if we do four, then five, six, seven, eight,

0:05:310:05:34

-so do two of them.

-Yeah, it was.

0:05:340:05:36

Choreographing a dance is not as easy as the team first thought,

0:05:360:05:39

especially when there are three people who all want to be in charge.

0:05:390:05:43

Soon, tensions start to show.

0:05:430:05:46

Certain people are annoying me.

0:05:460:05:48

Annoying. It's frustrating.

0:05:480:05:51

There's no point doing this if you just disagree with everything.

0:05:510:05:54

After a few tense minutes, they put their differences aside

0:05:560:06:00

and start to work together as a team.

0:06:000:06:02

UP-TEMPO DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

0:06:020:06:05

ALL: Woo-hoo!

0:06:100:06:12

The mood has lifted, but their work has only just begun.

0:06:120:06:15

They now need to teach their dance routine to Cel

0:06:150:06:18

in preparation for the party.

0:06:180:06:20

Annalise, Chloe and Peter arrive at the dance studio, where Cel

0:06:200:06:23

is keen to get going and learn the dance the kids have come up with.

0:06:230:06:27

I'm nervous.

0:06:270:06:28

-Then your arm like that.

-Oh, OK. Fine.

-Yeah.

0:06:310:06:34

Cel is strutting his stuff, but he's not quite up to Peter's standards.

0:06:340:06:39

-You went like that instead of...

-All right! I'm still learning!

0:06:390:06:43

-Oh...

-Nearly, Cel, but not quite.

0:06:430:06:47

I thought Cel was funny when he was dancing.

0:06:470:06:49

I don't think I'm the best dancer out there, but I did my best.

0:06:490:06:52

When he got the grasp of it, he was a really good dancer.

0:06:520:06:55

They've got the moves, but are they lacking the magic?

0:06:550:06:58

Maybe what they need is a bit of help

0:06:580:07:01

from one of Alesha's Street Dance Stars dream team,

0:07:010:07:04

but who could that be?

0:07:040:07:06

PETER: Ah! LAUGHTER

0:07:090:07:11

I thought you might need a bit of extra help

0:07:110:07:13

to polish your routine, so I brought Turbo. Surprised?

0:07:130:07:16

-Yeah, I didn't expect him to be here.

-Are you glad he's here?

-Yeah.

0:07:160:07:19

Dancer Turbo has been a judge on Alesha's Street Dance Stars

0:07:190:07:23

since the early days and certainly knows how to perfect a performance.

0:07:230:07:28

It's your choreography, it's your steps.

0:07:280:07:29

So we're going to clean it up and we're going to refine it.

0:07:290:07:32

As the shock of Turbo's arrival

0:07:320:07:34

wears off, he introduces them all to some rather interesting

0:07:340:07:37

teaching techniques.

0:07:370:07:39

Three! Four! Five! Six! Seven!

0:07:390:07:42

-Scream!

-THEY ALL SCREAM

0:07:420:07:45

Now it's time to get down to business and get the dance nailed.

0:07:470:07:51

Five, six, seven, eight.

0:07:510:07:54

One, two, three, four...

0:07:540:07:56

Turbo turned up and it was a real... It was a really good surprise,

0:07:560:07:59

cos he helped us a lot. And he's gave us quite a few tips.

0:07:590:08:03

Go again, one more time.

0:08:030:08:04

One, two, three, four,

0:08:040:08:06

five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four.

0:08:060:08:10

Make sure your pose is strong.

0:08:100:08:12

It has to be strong.

0:08:120:08:13

'We had quite a basic quality of the dance. I know it was good,

0:08:130:08:16

'but when he's come and stepped in,'

0:08:160:08:18

he's really, really helped.

0:08:180:08:20

I'm quite relieved, cos I'm really happy with it.

0:08:200:08:22

Criss, cross, pose.

0:08:220:08:24

Do you know what, keep that one.

0:08:240:08:25

Turbo's enthusiasm is starting to rub off on the team.

0:08:250:08:29

And the dance goes from good to great.

0:08:290:08:33

The dance is finally finished.

0:08:330:08:35

But they still have to teach it to the party-goers at the main event.

0:08:350:08:39

I feel they'll be ready for the 27th.

0:08:390:08:41

As long as they practise and build up their confidence

0:08:410:08:44

and, most of all, have fun.

0:08:440:08:46

Every party needs a headline act,

0:08:460:08:48

and their next challenge is to cast one.

0:08:480:08:51

Their favourite will headline the live event tomorrow.

0:08:510:08:54

Backstage, Turbo is giving the hopefuls a pep talk.

0:08:540:08:57

So how are you guys feeling now? Cos you're about to go and perform.

0:08:570:09:00

-How are you feeling?

-We've got the adrenaline and stuff.

-Yeah?

-Yeah.

0:09:000:09:03

Good, good, good.

0:09:030:09:04

Listen, when you guys go out there, do your thing.

-Good uniform.

0:09:470:09:51

-Do you like the uniform?

-Yeah, and I put out of ten.

0:09:510:09:53

-How would you go, out of ten?

-Obviously ten.

0:09:530:09:55

How are you feeling?

0:10:020:10:04

-I'm feeling scared, but excited at the same time.

-Yeah?

0:10:040:10:07

Once you step on that stage...

0:10:070:10:09

Just know that that's your stage, so however long you singing for,

0:10:090:10:12

0:10:150:10:17

"Hey, this is my stage for four minutes.

0:10:170:10:20

-"I'm taking control. Diana is in the building." OK? Got it?

-Yeah.

0:10:200:10:25

Give me a high-five on that one.

0:10:250:10:27

-And what are you going to sing today?

-Beautiful.

0:10:520:10:57

-What do we think?

-Amazing.

-Absolutely fantastic.

0:10:570:11:00

It's like, where does she get the voice from? She's superb.

0:11:000:11:03

-We're here with Lewis. You good, Lewis?

-Yeah.

0:11:030:11:05

-What are you doing for us today?

-Dancing.

0:11:050:11:07

You're going to be dancing?

0:11:070:11:09

-Is it a particular style you're going to be dancing?

-Street dance.

0:11:090:11:12

He's going to be doing some street dance for you guys.

-Not 10 out of 10, 20 out of 10!

-20 out of 10?!

0:11:350:11:38

They love all the acts so far,

0:11:380:11:39

so it's going to be a really tough decision.

0:11:390:11:42

And there's still more to see.

0:11:420:11:43

-So, are you feeling nervous about performing?

-In front of kids, yeah.

0:11:430:11:46

-Yeah?

-In front of kids, yeah. But I'm all right.

0:11:460:11:49

I'm sure you've got it locked down, got it wrapped up.

0:11:490:11:51

0:12:080:12:11

# I think I love you better now... #

0:12:110:12:13

Bre was phenomenal, cos his voice was just amazing.

0:12:130:12:16

The way he presented himself was great.

0:12:160:12:18

It's time for the last act, and the trio are in for a bit of a shock.

0:12:180:12:23

-Chris Cross, let them know what it is you do.

-What I do?

0:12:230:12:26

I'm a contortionist and escapologist,

0:12:260:12:28

which means I do really weird things with my body.

0:12:280:12:32

-Oh, stop, stop! Wow!

-Oh!

0:12:330:12:36

-ALL:

-Oh!

0:12:400:12:42

OK, guys, this is pretty weird.

0:12:420:12:44

Chris Cross is like a daredevil.

0:12:490:12:51

Some of the things he done were so, like, sick

0:12:510:12:54

or it was, like, horrible but really good at the same time.

0:12:540:12:56

With all the acts having performed, Annalise, Chloe and Peter

0:12:560:13:00

now have the stressful task of choosing their favourite.

0:13:000:13:03

The winner gets top billing at the live event tomorrow.

0:13:030:13:06

We're celebrating the opening of the Olympics. At the opening

0:13:060:13:08

of the Olympics in London and Beijing, they always have a singer.

0:13:080:13:12

-But could we be different?

-Could we be different?

0:13:120:13:14

If you think the Olympics,

0:13:140:13:16

and then we got the gymnasts doing all the stunts.

0:13:160:13:19

-You are right, that's another valid point.

-Leave it alone!

0:13:190:13:21
