Hello, I'm Colin. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
I'm just sorting out the bed ready for bedtime. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:12
I need everything to be just right before I can get to sleep. | 0:09:12 | 0:09:16
I need a cushion, a teddy, oh, and a bedtime story. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:21
This is a story called Emily Brown And The Thing. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:27
Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Emily Brown | 0:09:27 | 0:09:32
and an old grey rabbit called Stanley. | 0:09:32 | 0:09:35
Emily Brown and Stanley were trying to get to sleep after a busy day, | 0:09:37 | 0:09:41
but a noise was keeping them awake. | 0:09:41 | 0:09:44
"Splish!" went the noise. | 0:09:44 | 0:09:46
"Splosh!" went the noise. | 0:09:46 | 0:09:48
It seemed to be coming from the window. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
"Splish, splosh!" | 0:09:51 | 0:09:53
There was a Thing sitting on the windowsill. | 0:09:54 | 0:09:57
Large tears were dripping onto his pyjamas. | 0:09:57 | 0:10:01
"Oh, Emily Brown, Emily Brown," wept the Thing. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:05
"I can't find my cuddly however hard I look. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
"It's not in the dark and scary wood. | 0:10:09 | 0:10:12
"And it's not under my pillow. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:14
"You and Stanley must come and find it for me. | 0:10:14 | 0:10:17
"Because I can't sleep without my cuddly." | 0:10:17 | 0:10:21
So, Emily Brown and Stanley put on their wet-weather wind coats | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
and their see-in-the-dark glasses | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
and their special boots for climbing. | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
They searched down low in the tangles and up high in the tree tops. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:38
They ran away from wolves and they lifted up trolls. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:42
And eventually, they found the Thing's cuddly | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
right at the top of the twistiest, | 0:10:45 | 0:10:49
thorniest tree in the dark, scary wood. | 0:10:49 | 0:10:54
"Thank you," said the Thing. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:56
"Don't mention it," said Emily Brown. | 0:10:56 | 0:10:59
"And now you must be quiet, Stanley and I are trying to sleep." | 0:10:59 | 0:11:07
"I promise," said the Thing, cuddling his cuddly. | 0:11:07 | 0:11:12
Emily Brown shut the window. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:15
A short while later, | 0:11:16 | 0:11:17
Emily Brown and Stanley were trying to get to sleep again. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:21
But a noise was keeping them awake. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:24
"Rumble, rumble!" went the noise. | 0:11:24 | 0:11:27
"Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble." | 0:11:27 | 0:11:30
It seemed to be coming from the kitchen. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:33
It was the Thing again. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:35
"Oh, Emily Brown, Emily Brown," grumbled the Thing. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:39
"All I had for tea was 100 hamburgers and one small apple for the vitamins. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:45
"And now I'm ever so hungry and thirsty. | 0:11:45 | 0:11:50
"You and Stanley must fetch me my bedtime milk | 0:11:50 | 0:11:53
"because I can't sleep when my tummy is rumbling." | 0:11:53 | 0:11:56
So...Emily Brown and Stanley sighed heavily | 0:11:56 | 0:12:00
and put snow snugglers on their heads, | 0:12:00 | 0:12:03
and ski plankers on their feet | 0:12:03 | 0:12:06
and their fluffiest winter warmers over everything. | 0:12:06 | 0:12:10
They skied off through the wild and whirling wastes. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:13
Through blizzards and hurricanes, till their hands were frozen | 0:12:13 | 0:12:18
and their legs were sore, searching for a mug of milk for the Thing. | 0:12:18 | 0:12:22
Stanley had to distract a polar bear who thought the milk belonged to him. | 0:12:22 | 0:12:27
"Rrrr, thank you," said the Thing. | 0:12:27 | 0:12:31
"Don't mention it," said Emily Brown. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:34
"Now, you must be quiet, Stanley and I are trying to sleep." | 0:12:34 | 0:12:41
"I promise," said the Thing, dropping most of the milk over his pyjama top. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:46
Emily Brown had hardly even shut her eyes before the noise started again. | 0:12:48 | 0:12:53
"Scratch, scratch, scratch," went the noise. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:56
It seemed to be coming from under the bed. | 0:12:56 | 0:12:59
"Scratch, scratch, scratch." | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
It was the Thing again. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:04
"I've got this itchy leg," began the Thing. | 0:13:04 | 0:13:07
But this time, Emily Brown had had enough. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:11
"Stop!" shouted Emily Brown. | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
"I have had enough! | 0:13:14 | 0:13:15
"We have rescued your cuddly from the scary wood, | 0:13:15 | 0:13:19
"we have fetched your milk from the wild and whirling wastes. | 0:13:19 | 0:13:23
"We have borrowed your medicine from the witches. | 0:13:23 | 0:13:27
"Stanley and I are exhausted! There's nothing wrong with your leg. | 0:13:27 | 0:13:32
"What is really the matter?" | 0:13:32 | 0:13:34
Two large tears crept down the Thing's cheeks | 0:13:34 | 0:13:37
and onto his furry chest. | 0:13:37 | 0:13:39
"I'm scared," whispered the Thing. | 0:13:39 | 0:13:44
"Oh, so that's been the problem," said Emily Brown | 0:13:46 | 0:13:51
drying his tears and handing him his cuddly again. | 0:13:51 | 0:13:55
"What are you scared of?" | 0:13:55 | 0:13:57
"Oh, I don't know...Things," said the Thing. | 0:13:59 | 0:14:06
"You are a Thing," said Emily Brown. | 0:14:06 | 0:14:11
"Am I?" said the Thing in surprise. | 0:14:11 | 0:14:13
"Ha! I wondered what I was." | 0:14:13 | 0:14:17
"You're definitely a Thing," said Emily Brown tucking him in | 0:14:17 | 0:14:21
and putting his hot-water bottle underneath his hairy legs. | 0:14:21 | 0:14:25
"Am I scary?" asked the Thing. | 0:14:25 | 0:14:27
"You are not at all scary," said Emily Brown. | 0:14:27 | 0:14:31
"You're a very nice Thing. | 0:14:31 | 0:14:33
"When Stanley and I are trying to sleep, | 0:14:33 | 0:14:36
"we find it helps to think of nice things. | 0:14:36 | 0:14:39
"Maybe you should try doing that yourself." | 0:14:39 | 0:14:42
"Maybe I will," said the nice Thing, yawning very wide. | 0:14:42 | 0:14:48
THING YAWNS | 0:14:48 | 0:14:50
"Night-night, Emily Brown. Sleep tight. | 0:14:50 | 0:14:53
"Sweet dreams." | 0:14:53 | 0:14:57
That story was called Emily Brown And The Thing. | 0:14:57 | 0:15:01
Now, it's time for you to try and get to sleep, | 0:15:01 | 0:15:05
just like the Thing. | 0:15:05 | 0:15:07
You won't need any green medicine from the whiny witches, | 0:15:07 | 0:15:11
or bedtime milk from polar bears. | 0:15:11 | 0:15:14
Just think about all the nice things that you have done today. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:18
