No! No, it's not my turn to answer the door. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:11
No, I definitely answered it last time, | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
now it's your turn. | 0:08:14 | 0:08:16
Oh, hello. | 0:08:16 | 0:08:18
I'm Josie. We've just heard a knock at the door | 0:08:18 | 0:08:22
and I don't think it's my turn to answer it. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:25
I definitely answered the door to let the duck in, | 0:08:25 | 0:08:28
so when we hear the door the next time it's your turn, Rabbit. | 0:08:28 | 0:08:32
There's a lot of knocking at the door in tonight's bedtime story. | 0:08:32 | 0:08:37
Rabbit, Duck, Lamb and Mouse all need to find out who's at the door. | 0:08:37 | 0:08:43
The story is by Alison Green and Deborah Allwright | 0:08:43 | 0:08:47
and is called The Fox In The Dark. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:50
Rabbit runs home, he darts left and right, | 0:08:50 | 0:08:52
scampering, scrambling, back through the night. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:56
His ears flap, his tail bobs, it's going to be tight | 0:08:56 | 0:08:59
as he's chased by a fox through the dark. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
Bang! goes his door and click! snaps the latch, | 0:09:01 | 0:09:05
thunk! goes the key and skritch! strikes a match | 0:09:05 | 0:09:08
and, "Phew!" Rabbit sighs, | 0:09:08 | 0:09:11
"I've escaped, not a scratch, and I'm safe from that fox in the dark." | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
But, rat-a-tat-tat! Now, who can that be? | 0:09:15 | 0:09:19
"Friend or fox?" Rabbit cries, | 0:09:19 | 0:09:22
a voice quacks, "Look and see, you'll never find anyone more scared than me | 0:09:22 | 0:09:27
"of the teeth of a fox in the dark." | 0:09:27 | 0:09:30
Rabbit peers round the door. There's no fox, just a duck | 0:09:30 | 0:09:34
who says, "Please let me in, I've had so much bad luck. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:38
"My truck hit a ditch and got stuck in the muck | 0:09:38 | 0:09:41
"and I've just seen a fox in the dark." | 0:09:41 | 0:09:44
Rabbit grumbles a bit, it's not really his habit | 0:09:44 | 0:09:47
to share with a duck a bed made for a rabbit. | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
"The duvet's quite small," he says, "try not to grab it, | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
"while we hide from the fox in the dark." | 0:09:53 | 0:09:56
Then, rat-a-tat-tat! Who's that at the door? | 0:09:56 | 0:10:00
"It's me," squeaks a voice, "is there room for one more? | 0:10:00 | 0:10:04
"I don't need much space and my paws are so sore, | 0:10:04 | 0:10:08
"I've just run from a fox in the dark." | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
"Oh, really," sighs Rabbit, "the hour is so late," | 0:10:12 | 0:10:16
but the mouse stood outside in such a sad state. | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
"I'm so tired," he says, "I could hibernate, | 0:10:20 | 0:10:24
"thanks to that fox in the dark." | 0:10:24 | 0:10:26
So they squoosh up together and Duck says, "Nice house." | 0:10:26 | 0:10:31
And, "Thank you so much for your kindness," says Mouse. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:35
And, "Sorry," says Rabbit, "I ought not to grouse, | 0:10:35 | 0:10:39
"I'm just cross with that fox in the dark." | 0:10:39 | 0:10:42
But then, rat-a-tat-tat! Who can that be now? | 0:10:42 | 0:10:46
"If it's a horse or a pig or a cow, they can just stay outside!" | 0:10:46 | 0:10:52
Rabbit furrows his brow. | 0:10:52 | 0:10:54
"I'll have words with that fox in the dark." | 0:10:54 | 0:10:57
Outside is a lamb who is shaking with fear. | 0:10:57 | 0:11:02
"Please may I come in? It looks so safe in here. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:06
"A big, hairy, scary thing barked in my ear | 0:11:06 | 0:11:11
"and I'm sure it's a fox in the dark." | 0:11:11 | 0:11:14
The bed is so full that it's starting to creak. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:18
Rabbit shoves Mouse and Mouse gives a squeak. | 0:11:18 | 0:11:21
Then Lamb accidentally squashes Duck's beak. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:25
"Oh, drat that old fox in the dark." | 0:11:25 | 0:11:28
Then, rat-a-tat-tat comes a knock at the door. | 0:11:28 | 0:11:32
"I'll get it," says Duck as he bumps to the floor. | 0:11:32 | 0:11:35
"Not that there's room here for anyone more." | 0:11:35 | 0:11:38
But outside is...a fox in the dark. | 0:11:38 | 0:11:42
"Don't eat us!"" cries Duck, "At least, don't eat me." | 0:11:42 | 0:11:47
Rabbit and Lamb dive behind the settee. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:50
Mouse flings up a paw and shouts, "I need a wee!" | 0:11:50 | 0:11:53
Then Duck says, "He looks a bit small to me." | 0:11:53 | 0:11:57
And the fox starts to cry and says, "Please help. You see, | 0:11:57 | 0:12:02
"I've lost my mum out in the dark." | 0:12:02 | 0:12:05
"Just what I thought," says Duck. "Ha, what a muddle." | 0:12:05 | 0:12:09
And Rabbit gives Fox Cub a very big cuddle. | 0:12:09 | 0:12:13
Then Lamb takes a cloth and cleans up Mouse's puddle. | 0:12:13 | 0:12:17
"He gets scared by a fox in the dark." | 0:12:17 | 0:12:22
Then, rat-a-tat-tat! | 0:12:22 | 0:12:24
"Who's that now?" Rabbit sighs. | 0:12:24 | 0:12:27
As he opens the door Duck says, "That was unwise." | 0:12:27 | 0:12:31
For outside is a fox of a much bigger size | 0:12:31 | 0:12:36
looming down at them out of the dark. | 0:12:36 | 0:12:38
But the fox cries, "My baby! I've searched for you so!" | 0:12:38 | 0:12:43
"And you found him," quacks Duck, "So off you both go. | 0:12:43 | 0:12:47
"I don't like to rush you, but as you well know, | 0:12:47 | 0:12:49
"a fox belongs out in the dark." | 0:12:49 | 0:12:52
"We won't hurt you," says Fox. "Oh, please, let us stay. | 0:12:52 | 0:12:56
"You've all been so kind, we'll keep out of your way. | 0:12:56 | 0:13:00
"My baby's so tired, our home's too far away | 0:13:00 | 0:13:04
"for a fox cub to trot in the dark." | 0:13:04 | 0:13:07
But Rabbit cries out, "There's no room in the bed! | 0:13:07 | 0:13:11
"Where on earth will you sleep?" Mummy Fox shakes her head. | 0:13:11 | 0:13:15
"Who needs a small bed? There's a big fox instead. | 0:13:15 | 0:13:19
"We can all snuggle up in the dark." | 0:13:19 | 0:13:22
So they each grab what pillows and rugs can be found, | 0:13:22 | 0:13:25
Fox lies out comfortably down on the ground, | 0:13:25 | 0:13:29
then they yawn and they stretch | 0:13:29 | 0:13:31
and they all cuddle round | 0:13:31 | 0:13:34
with the fox that came in from the dark. | 0:13:34 | 0:13:40
And that story was called The Fox In The Dark. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:44
Now, we need to make sure we open the door, | 0:13:44 | 0:13:49
there might be more animals outside who'd like to cuddle up on the sofa. | 0:13:49 | 0:13:53
But right now it's time for you to go to bed. | 0:13:53 | 0:13:57
I'll see you soon for another story. | 0:13:57 | 0:14:00
