Then, I can make myself comfy on the sofa | 0:16:13 | 0:16:16
ready to tell you tonight's bedtime story. | 0:16:16 | 0:16:20
The story is by Janet Bingham and Rosalind Beardshaw | 0:16:20 | 0:16:23
and it's called Night, Light, Sleep Tight. | 0:16:23 | 0:16:27
Jack was trying to fall asleep. | 0:16:28 | 0:16:31
He closed one eye. | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
Then, the other. | 0:16:34 | 0:16:36
He put his head under his wing and took it out again. | 0:16:36 | 0:16:40
Nothing worked! | 0:16:40 | 0:16:42
The night was dark and Jack was scared of the dark. | 0:16:42 | 0:16:46
"Oh, dear", he sighed. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:49
"Night time is so dark and scary." | 0:16:49 | 0:16:53
"I wish it was light time." | 0:16:53 | 0:16:56
"Woo-hoo," hooted a merry voice. | 0:16:56 | 0:17:00
Jack jumped, "Oh, who's there?" quacked Jack. | 0:17:00 | 0:17:04
"Ooh, it's me Olivia," said a very small owl. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:08
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" said Jack. | 0:17:08 | 0:17:11
"Ooh, not me," hooted Olivia. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:14
"My family sleep in the light time. Do you want to play with me?" | 0:17:14 | 0:17:19
"I will in the morning," said Jack. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:22
"But I'm trying to go to sleep now." | 0:17:22 | 0:17:25
"Then, I'll help you," said Olivia. | 0:17:25 | 0:17:28
"I'll sing you to sleep." | 0:17:28 | 0:17:30
She hooted a gentle lullaby. | 0:17:30 | 0:17:34
SHE HOOTS | 0:17:34 | 0:17:38
Very soon, Jack's eyes began to close. | 0:17:42 | 0:17:46
He fell fast asleep. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:49
When Jack woke up, it was starting to get light. | 0:17:50 | 0:17:53
"Hello," whispered Olivia. | 0:17:53 | 0:17:56
But she didn't sound very cheerful now. | 0:17:56 | 0:18:00
"What's the matter?" quacked Jack. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:02
"Ooh, I'm scared," said Olivia. | 0:18:02 | 0:18:06
"I've never been out in the light time before." | 0:18:06 | 0:18:09
"Everything looks different and the hot sun is coming." | 0:18:09 | 0:18:14
"Well, there's no need to be afraid of the sun," said Jack. | 0:18:14 | 0:18:18
The sky was turning pink and gold. | 0:18:18 | 0:18:23
"Ooh," said Olivia, "It's pretty." | 0:18:23 | 0:18:28
"Oh, don't look right at the sun. It might hurt your eyes." | 0:18:28 | 0:18:33
"But it feels nice on your feathers," | 0:18:33 | 0:18:35
said Jack as the sun appeared. | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
"It's not too hot after all," said Olivia. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:42
"Look at all the bright colours everywhere!" | 0:18:42 | 0:18:46
"Come on," said Jack. "There's lots to see in the light time." | 0:18:46 | 0:18:52
Jack lead the way up the path and Olivia followed. | 0:18:52 | 0:18:56
Suddenly she cried, "Ooh, ooh, there's something stuck to my feet." | 0:18:56 | 0:19:02
"That's your shadow shape," explained Jack. | 0:19:02 | 0:19:05
"Look. You can make it small like an egg" | 0:19:05 | 0:19:09
"or tall like a grown up," giggled Olivia. | 0:19:09 | 0:19:14
"See how big we are. Let's race." | 0:19:14 | 0:19:17
And off they ran chasing their shadows in the sunshine. | 0:19:17 | 0:19:23
Later on, Jack went swimming. | 0:19:23 | 0:19:25
Olivia watched him ducking and bobbing on the pond. | 0:19:25 | 0:19:29
She dipped her toe in the water. | 0:19:29 | 0:19:31
"Ooh, I wish I could swim," she said. | 0:19:31 | 0:19:34
"I wish I could climb trees," laughed Jack. | 0:19:34 | 0:19:38
Just then, a flock of geese flew overhead. | 0:19:38 | 0:19:41
"Well, imagine," whispered Jack | 0:19:41 | 0:19:47
"One day," sighed Olivia, "we'll be able to fly." | 0:19:47 | 0:19:54
At last, Olivia yawned. | 0:19:54 | 0:19:56
"Ooh, I'm ready to go to sleep now," she said. | 0:19:56 | 0:20:01
A blackbird was singing nearby. | 0:20:01 | 0:20:04
"Let's join in," said Jack and they hooted and quacked all the way home. | 0:20:04 | 0:20:11
Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! | 0:20:11 | 0:20:14
Quack quack. Quack. Quack quack. | 0:20:14 | 0:20:18
Back at the nest, Olivia started to hop up to bed. | 0:20:18 | 0:20:22
"Light, light," she murmured sleepily. | 0:20:22 | 0:20:26
"Light, light," replied Jack. | 0:20:26 | 0:20:29
"Sleep tight." | 0:20:29 | 0:20:31
That evening, Jack stayed awake and watched the sunset. | 0:20:31 | 0:20:35
Olivia came out of her nest. She scooted down through the branches. | 0:20:35 | 0:20:40
"Woo-hoo," she hooted. | 0:20:40 | 0:20:42
But Jack looked worried. | 0:20:42 | 0:20:44
"What's the matter?" asked Olivia. | 0:20:44 | 0:20:47
"I'm still a little scared," said Jack. | 0:20:47 | 0:20:51
"The sun has gone and it's getting cold and dark." | 0:20:51 | 0:20:56
"Ooh, there's no need to be afraid of the dark," said Olivia. | 0:20:56 | 0:21:00
"Come and see the moon." | 0:21:00 | 0:21:03
Olivia stayed with Jack as the moon came up. | 0:21:03 | 0:21:06
They watched it brighten. | 0:21:06 | 0:21:08
The stars began to sparkle. | 0:21:08 | 0:21:10
Fireflies danced over the moonlit water. | 0:21:10 | 0:21:14
"Ooh, I didn't know that night time was so full of lights," said Jack. | 0:21:14 | 0:21:19
"Ooh, look at the shapes in the stars," said Olivia. | 0:21:19 | 0:21:24
"There's a duck." | 0:21:24 | 0:21:26
"And there's an owl," laughed Jack. | 0:21:26 | 0:21:30
After a while, Jack started to yawn. | 0:21:30 | 0:21:33
"I'm ready to go to sleep now," he said. | 0:21:33 | 0:21:37
Jack snuggled down in his nest. | 0:21:37 | 0:21:40
"Thank you for showing me the moon," he said. | 0:21:41 | 0:21:44
"I'm not frightened of night time any more." | 0:21:44 | 0:21:48
"And I'm not frightened of light time," hooted Olivia. | 0:21:48 | 0:21:54
"Thank you for being my friend." | 0:21:54 | 0:21:56
"Night, light," said Jack with a sleepy smile. | 0:21:57 | 0:22:01
"Night, light," laughed Olivia. "Sleep tight." | 0:22:01 | 0:22:08
That story was called Night, Light, Sleep Tight. | 0:22:10 | 0:22:13
It's time for me to say that to you too. | 0:22:13 | 0:22:16
Night, light, sleep tight. | 0:22:16 | 0:22:19
I'll see you another time for another story. | 0:22:19 | 0:22:22
