There, that's better.

Hello, I'm Alex.

I was just turning the lights down, ready for bed.

The lights down at bedtime makes it much more cosy!

But there's someone in tonight's story who's scared of the dark.

The story is called, Bella And Monty - A Hairy Scary Night,

by Alex Smith.

Bella Bones and Monty Mittens are best friends.

They both like the colour orange, slurping spaghetti

and have the same-sized feet.

But best friends are never exactly the same.

Bella isn't frightened of anything

but Monty is scared of absolutely everything!

Ghouls, monsters, bruises, bananas, spiders, scrambled eggs,

clowns, pigeons, plugholes, water, shadows, swings, crocodiles,

stinky cheese, lifts, owls, bats,

-bugs...especially, the dark!

-SPOOKY MUSIC

One sleepover, after some milk and a bedtime story in their den,

Bella put the light out and they snuggled in their sleeping bags.

"It's really dark!" whispered Monty,

as his whiskers wobbled and his tail quivered.

"Nothing is as scary as it seems," Bella said,

leaving her sleeping bag and leading Monty bravely into the night.

BELLA: "Night has to be dark for a reason.

"The sun gets tired from all the shining she does in the day,

"so at night, the moon takes over, whilst the sun has a snooze."

Monty peered up into the night sky

and saw the moon's big face, smiling down at him.

"Night doesn't seem so dark and scary any more,"

he said and helped Bella tuck the sun into bed.

A moment later though,

Monty heard a loud groaning, moaning sound, rumbling in the night air.

"Eek! I don't like ghosts!" he cried with chattering teeth.

"They swoop into my room at night and scare me with their 'WOOO-ING!'"

"They're not 'WOOO-ING' at you," Bella explained.

"They're doing homework for ghoul school."

Monty took a deep breath, "Ahhh..."

and followed Bella into class.

It wasn't scary at all!

Bella helped a ghost with a tricky sum

and Monty helped a zombie glue his ear back on!

Then, out of the corner of his eye, Monty saw something hairy

and scary, scuttling across the classroom floor.

"Oh! I don't like spiders!" he cried.

"They sneak out at night and try to gobble me up!"

"Spiders are too small to eat you," said Bella.

"Anyway, everyone knows, they prefer takeaway food."

Monty and Bella helped a family of spiders

carry their meal back to their web.

On the way home, Bella and Monty walked through the woods,

and Monty didn't bat an eyelid.

He wasn't scared of the hairy, scary spiders.

He wasn't frightened of the ghostly ghouls.

And he wasn't afraid of the dark any more.

Back in the den, they nestled into their sleeping bags.

"Bella?" whispered Monty, ever so quietly.

"Are you sure there's nothing that frightens you?"

-BANG!

-BELLA: "Aaargh!"

Goodnight.

Sleep tight.

Hmmm! How funny to be scared of balloons!

Well, it's time to go to bed.

So, I'd better put out the lights.

You're not scared, are you? No?

Good!

Night-night.

Zzzzzzzz...
