CBeebies Bedtime Story. | 0:36:03 | 0:36:05
No, you can't stay awake and play games. | 0:36:07 | 0:36:10
OK. You can stay awake for a bedtime story. OK? | 0:36:11 | 0:36:17
Hello. I'm Lee. | 0:36:18 | 0:36:20
The toys don't want to go to bed yet, | 0:36:21 | 0:36:23
so I said they can stay up for one last story. | 0:36:23 | 0:36:27
So, we need to get ready. | 0:36:27 | 0:36:30
This story is all about toys who don't want to go to sleep. | 0:36:31 | 0:36:35
It's by Sean Taylor and Jimmy Liao | 0:36:35 | 0:36:38
and it's called The World Champion of Staying Awake. | 0:36:38 | 0:36:42
"Good night, Stella," says Dad. | 0:36:42 | 0:36:45
"Time to go to bed." | 0:36:45 | 0:36:47
But how can Stella go to bed? | 0:36:47 | 0:36:49
She still has Cherry Pig, Thunderbolt the puppet mouse | 0:36:49 | 0:36:52
and Beanbag Frog to get to sleep. | 0:36:52 | 0:36:55
"I'm a bit wide awake," snuffles Cherry Pig. | 0:36:55 | 0:36:59
"I'm a lot wide awake," calls out Thunderbolt. | 0:36:59 | 0:37:02
Beanbag Frog is worse than wide awake. He's going hoppity-hop. | 0:37:02 | 0:37:06
"Stoppity-stop," says Stella. "It's time to go to bed." | 0:37:06 | 0:37:11
"I'm not going to sleep," calls out Thunderbolt. | 0:37:11 | 0:37:14
"Sleep is too slow," croaks Beanbag Frog. | 0:37:14 | 0:37:20
"I'm the world champion of staying awake," says Cherry Pig. | 0:37:20 | 0:37:24
But Stella is good at thinking up ways to get them to sleep. | 0:37:24 | 0:37:28
She puts them on her pillow. | 0:37:28 | 0:37:32
"Can you dream the pillow into something?" asks Cherry Pig. | 0:37:32 | 0:37:37
"Yes," says Stella. | 0:37:37 | 0:37:39
"It's a ship." And it is. | 0:37:39 | 0:37:42
The pillow ship rocks, the pillow ship sways, | 0:37:42 | 0:37:46
the pillow ship sails across the waves. | 0:37:46 | 0:37:49
In the deep water under the boat, | 0:37:49 | 0:37:51
jellyfish, sharks and seahorses float. | 0:37:51 | 0:37:55
But down in the cabin, you'll come to no harm. | 0:37:55 | 0:37:58
You'll be warm as a cat sleeping inside a barn. | 0:37:58 | 0:38:01
So snuggle your feet, snuggle your knees | 0:38:01 | 0:38:04
and let yourself sway over the seas. | 0:38:04 | 0:38:07
Quietly, Stella checks. | 0:38:08 | 0:38:11
Cherry Pig is asleep. | 0:38:11 | 0:38:14
But Beanbag Frog asks, "Is jelly made from jellyfish?" | 0:38:15 | 0:38:20
And Thunderbolt is calling out, | 0:38:20 | 0:38:22
"The world champion of staying awake is actually me!" | 0:38:22 | 0:38:27
"How am I ever going to get you two to sleep?", sighs Stella. | 0:38:28 | 0:38:32
"With presents, toys | 0:38:32 | 0:38:35
"and fireworks and spicy-sausage pizza," suggests Thunderbolt. | 0:38:35 | 0:38:40
"It's not time for anything like that," Stella tells them. | 0:38:40 | 0:38:43
"It's time to shut your eyes." | 0:38:43 | 0:38:46
"I've shut my eyes, but my feet are completely woken up," | 0:38:46 | 0:38:50
says Beanbag Frog in a very bouncy voice. | 0:38:50 | 0:38:53
So Stella puts them in her shoebox. | 0:38:53 | 0:38:56
"Can you dream this box into something?" asks Thunderbolt. | 0:38:57 | 0:39:02
"Yes," says Stella. | 0:39:02 | 0:39:04
"It's a train." | 0:39:04 | 0:39:07
And it is. Outside, the air is cold with rain, | 0:39:07 | 0:39:11
but it's warm and dry on the midnight train. | 0:39:11 | 0:39:14
The silver wheels spin around on the track | 0:39:14 | 0:39:17
on their way over the mountains and back. | 0:39:17 | 0:39:20
And as it chugs and clatters and steams, | 0:39:20 | 0:39:23
the train will carry you into your dreams. | 0:39:23 | 0:39:26
Dreams of long journeys and dinosaur eggs. | 0:39:26 | 0:39:29
Dreams of white horses with galloping legs. | 0:39:29 | 0:39:33
"Who's the world champion of staying awake now?" whispers Stella. | 0:39:34 | 0:39:40
Thunderbolt lifts his head and says, | 0:39:40 | 0:39:42
"I'm the world champion of... going to sleep." | 0:39:42 | 0:39:49
And he closes his eyes. | 0:39:49 | 0:39:52
So that leaves Beanbag Frog. Is he asleep? | 0:39:52 | 0:39:56
No, he's not. | 0:39:56 | 0:39:58
He's going hoppity-hop again. | 0:39:58 | 0:40:00
"How many years is it to my birthday?" he asks Stella. | 0:40:00 | 0:40:05
"I can't believe you're still awake," she whispers. | 0:40:05 | 0:40:09
"I can," he says, in his croaky voice. | 0:40:09 | 0:40:13
"The world champion of staying awake must actually be me." | 0:40:13 | 0:40:18
So Stella puts him in the toy basket. | 0:40:18 | 0:40:21
"Can you dream our basket into something?" asks Beanbag Frog. | 0:40:21 | 0:40:27
"Yes," says Stella. | 0:40:27 | 0:40:30
"It's a balloon." And it is. | 0:40:30 | 0:40:33
The starship balloon flies off and away, | 0:40:34 | 0:40:37
leaving behind the last of today. | 0:40:37 | 0:40:40
Through the air, as quiet as fallen snow, | 0:40:40 | 0:40:44
up and up and up you go. | 0:40:44 | 0:40:46
Up so high that it's best to stop, | 0:40:46 | 0:40:50
if you feel like going hoppity-hop. | 0:40:50 | 0:40:52
And what's around you as you rise? | 0:40:52 | 0:40:54
The sparkling necklaces of the skies. | 0:40:54 | 0:40:58
Stella checks. | 0:40:59 | 0:41:01
Beanbag Frog is lying with his head on one arm. | 0:41:01 | 0:41:05
Not a croak, not a bounce, not a hoppity-hop. | 0:41:05 | 0:41:11
"They're all fast asleep," she whispers. | 0:41:11 | 0:41:14
And she tucks them, one by one, into bed. | 0:41:14 | 0:41:17
So the world champion of staying awake | 0:41:18 | 0:41:21
must actually be Stella. | 0:41:21 | 0:41:23
SNORING Or perhaps not. | 0:41:23 | 0:41:26
And that story was called, The World Champion of Staying Awake. | 0:41:28 | 0:41:33
SNORING | 0:41:33 | 0:41:35
I think the CBeebies toys are falling asleep, too. | 0:41:37 | 0:41:40
I hope you're not the world champion of staying awake. | 0:41:41 | 0:41:44
It's time for you to go to sleep, too. | 0:41:44 | 0:41:47
Maybe you can be the world champion of going to sleep instead. | 0:41:47 | 0:41:51
I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. | 0:41:52 | 0:41:55
Night-night. | 0:41:55 | 0:41:57
Now, let me tuck you up into bed. | 0:41:57 | 0:42:00
