Aww, swimming and reading, that sounds perfect! | 0:30:08 | 0:30:12
Oh, hello. I'm Tristan. My friend sent me a letter. | 0:30:12 | 0:30:16
She's been on holiday and wanted to tell me everything. | 0:30:16 | 0:30:19
It's nice to have friends to share things with. | 0:30:19 | 0:30:22
Mole, in tonight's Bedtime Story, has lots of friends. | 0:30:22 | 0:30:27
But there's something he really doesn't want to share. | 0:30:27 | 0:30:31
A secret! Shall we find out what it is? | 0:30:31 | 0:30:34
The story is by Jonathan Emmett and Vanessa Cabban. | 0:30:34 | 0:30:38
And it's called A Secret Worth Sharing. | 0:30:38 | 0:30:42
It was a beautiful summer day in the woodland. | 0:30:43 | 0:30:46
The birds were singing, the bees were buzzing, | 0:30:46 | 0:30:49
and the sun hung high in the sky like a bright golden coin. | 0:30:49 | 0:30:54
"The perfect day to go exploring!" decided Mole, | 0:30:55 | 0:31:00
and he set off to see what he could find. | 0:31:00 | 0:31:03
Mole was not used to being above ground. | 0:31:03 | 0:31:07
So, after a while, he had to stop for a rest. | 0:31:07 | 0:31:10
"H-hot diggity!" he puffed, | 0:31:10 | 0:31:12
sitting down against the side of a mossy stump. | 0:31:12 | 0:31:16
"Bugs and beetles!" said a squeaky voice. "Whatever's that?" | 0:31:16 | 0:31:21
Mole jumped up in surprise, and found a small, furry face | 0:31:21 | 0:31:25
peering at him through a hole in the stump. | 0:31:25 | 0:31:28
"H-hello," he said nervously. | 0:31:30 | 0:31:33
"Uh, uh, I'm Mole. Who are you?" | 0:31:33 | 0:31:35
"I'm Mouse," said the face, | 0:31:35 | 0:31:39
and gave Mole the sweetest smile he had ever seen. | 0:31:39 | 0:31:43
The stump was hollow, and Mouse had a nest inside it. | 0:31:43 | 0:31:47
It was a very nice nest, | 0:31:47 | 0:31:49
as Mole discovered when Mouse invited him in. | 0:31:49 | 0:31:52
Mole decided that Mouse was very nice too. | 0:31:52 | 0:31:56
And as he walked home that evening, | 0:31:56 | 0:31:58
he felt pleased with himself for having made a new friend. | 0:31:58 | 0:32:01
Mole had other friends, but they all knew each other. | 0:32:01 | 0:32:06
Now, he had a friend all of his own. | 0:32:06 | 0:32:09
"Mouse is my special friend," he told himself. | 0:32:10 | 0:32:14
And he decided to keep Mouse a secret, | 0:32:14 | 0:32:17
and not to tell anyone about her. | 0:32:17 | 0:32:21
Mole had never had a secret before. It was exciting, | 0:32:21 | 0:32:24
and he found it hard to think of anything else. | 0:32:24 | 0:32:27
So, he visited Mouse again the next day. | 0:32:27 | 0:32:30
And the day after. | 0:32:30 | 0:32:33
And the day after that. | 0:32:33 | 0:32:35
Mole spent so much time with Mouse | 0:32:35 | 0:32:38
that he didn't have time for his other friends. | 0:32:38 | 0:32:41
Squirrel, Hedgehog and Rabbit called round to see Mole, | 0:32:41 | 0:32:44
but he was never in his burrow. | 0:32:44 | 0:32:47
"Where is he?" wondered Squirrel. | 0:32:47 | 0:32:49
"And what's he up to?" wondered Hedgehog. | 0:32:49 | 0:32:53
"I hope he's all right," said Rabbit. | 0:32:53 | 0:32:55
One morning, just as Mole was hurrying off for another | 0:32:55 | 0:32:59
secret visit to Mouse, Rabbit, Hedgehog and Squirrel arrived. | 0:32:59 | 0:33:04
"Hello, Mole!" said Rabbit. "We haven't seen much of you recently, | 0:33:04 | 0:33:08
"so we thought we'd all pop round." | 0:33:08 | 0:33:10
Mole was disappointed at first. He wanted to see Mouse, | 0:33:10 | 0:33:16
but he couldn't tell his friends to go away. | 0:33:16 | 0:33:19
But once they got talking, he found himself | 0:33:19 | 0:33:21
enjoying their company as he always did. | 0:33:21 | 0:33:24
"So, Mole," said Rabbit, eventually. | 0:33:24 | 0:33:28
"What have you been up to?" | 0:33:28 | 0:33:30
Mole suddenly felt very embarrassed. | 0:33:30 | 0:33:34
"I-I-I don't know what you mean," he said. "I-I've only..." | 0:33:34 | 0:33:39
But before he could finish, he was interrupted. | 0:33:39 | 0:33:42
"Hello? Mole? "Are you down there?" called a voice from outside. | 0:33:42 | 0:33:48
-HE GASPS -It was Mouse! | 0:33:48 | 0:33:50
"I thought I might come and visit you for a change," she explained. | 0:33:50 | 0:33:54
Rabbit, Hedgehog and Squirrel were very surprised, | 0:33:54 | 0:33:58
but delighted to meet her. | 0:33:58 | 0:34:00
And Mouse soon made friends with all of them. | 0:34:00 | 0:34:03
But Mole looked rather unhappy. | 0:34:03 | 0:34:07
"What's wrong, Mole?" asked Rabbit. | 0:34:07 | 0:34:11
"Uh, M-Mouse was my special friend," said Mole glumly. | 0:34:11 | 0:34:15
"Now, I'll have to share her with everyone else." | 0:34:15 | 0:34:18
"But Mole!" said Mouse, giving Mole a hug, | 0:34:18 | 0:34:22
"I'm just as much your friend as ever! | 0:34:22 | 0:34:25
"Only now, I'm Rabbit's and Squirrel's | 0:34:25 | 0:34:28
"and Hedgehog's friend too." | 0:34:28 | 0:34:30
"Friendship is a special thing," explained Rabbit. | 0:34:30 | 0:34:34
"But one of the things that makes it special | 0:34:34 | 0:34:37
"is that the more you share it, the more you have." | 0:34:37 | 0:34:41
"I...didn't know that," said Mole. | 0:34:41 | 0:34:44
"So you were keeping me a secret?" smiled Mouse. | 0:34:44 | 0:34:49
Mole blushed. | 0:34:49 | 0:34:51
"I...suppose I was," he admitted. | 0:34:51 | 0:34:54
"But now I know better!" | 0:34:54 | 0:34:56
"You're a secret worth sharing!" beamed Mole. | 0:34:56 | 0:35:02
That story was called A Secret Worth Sharing. | 0:35:03 | 0:35:06
Mouse WAS a secret worth sharing, wasn't she? | 0:35:06 | 0:35:09
And Mole was very lucky to have such lovely friends. | 0:35:09 | 0:35:14
I think I'll write a letter to my friend about Mole. | 0:35:14 | 0:35:18
While I do, it's time for you to go to sleep. | 0:35:18 | 0:35:22
I'll see you soon for another Bedtime Story. | 0:35:22 | 0:35:25
Night-night, and sweet dreams. | 0:35:25 | 0:35:28
Right. Now where shall I start? | 0:35:28 | 0:35:32
I know. There was once a little mole... | 0:35:33 | 0:35:37
