Oh, hello. I'm Matthew. | 0:31:09 | 0:31:12
I'm trying to decide which shoes to wear tomorrow morning. | 0:31:12 | 0:31:17
What will I be doing? I think I'll decide later. | 0:31:17 | 0:31:20
But all these shoes remind me of someone else | 0:31:20 | 0:31:23
who tries to find the perfect pair. | 0:31:23 | 0:31:26
Let me tell you all about him. | 0:31:26 | 0:31:28
The story is called Dog In Boots, | 0:31:28 | 0:31:31
and is by Greg Gormley and Roberta Angaramo. | 0:31:31 | 0:31:34
Dog was reading a brilliant book all about a cat | 0:31:35 | 0:31:40
who wore a pair of truly magnificent boots. | 0:31:40 | 0:31:43
When he finished reading Dog put down his book | 0:31:43 | 0:31:47
and had a little think. | 0:31:47 | 0:31:49
Then he went to the local shoe shop. | 0:31:49 | 0:31:51
BELL RINGS | 0:31:51 | 0:31:53
"Have you got any footwear as splendid as this?" | 0:31:53 | 0:31:56
he said, showing the book to the shopkeeper. | 0:31:56 | 0:31:59
"I believe I have," said the shopkeeper, | 0:31:59 | 0:32:02
and brought out four just as splendid boots, | 0:32:02 | 0:32:05
one for each of Dog's paws. | 0:32:05 | 0:32:08
"Bow-wow!" said Dog, "I'll take them." | 0:32:08 | 0:32:11
Dog was so pleased that he went straight home | 0:32:11 | 0:32:15
to dig up his very best bone. | 0:32:15 | 0:32:17
But the new boots were not at all splendid or magnificent for digging, | 0:32:19 | 0:32:24
and they got so muddy that they looked quite awful. | 0:32:24 | 0:32:28
So Dog took them back to the shop. | 0:32:31 | 0:32:35
"Have you got some that are better for digging?" he asked. | 0:32:35 | 0:32:38
"I have just the thing," said the shopkeeper. | 0:32:38 | 0:32:42
"These wellie boots are perfect in mud. It simply washes right off." | 0:32:42 | 0:32:46
The wellie boots were wonderful for digging. | 0:32:48 | 0:32:52
But when Dog went for a swim in the pond, | 0:32:52 | 0:32:54
they filled up with water | 0:32:54 | 0:32:57
and he sank with a plop. | 0:32:57 | 0:32:59
PLOP | 0:32:59 | 0:33:01 | |
Dog took them back to the shop. | 0:33:01 | 0:33:03
"Have you got some that are better for swimming?" He asked. | 0:33:03 | 0:33:08
"The best thing for swimming," the shopkeeper said, "is flippers." | 0:33:08 | 0:33:14
The flippers were fantastic for swimming. | 0:33:14 | 0:33:17
But when Dog tried to scratch | 0:33:17 | 0:33:19
they flip-flap-flopped around his head in a very unsatisfying way. | 0:33:19 | 0:33:25
Dog took them back to the shop. | 0:33:25 | 0:33:27
"Have you got some that are better for scratching?" he said. | 0:33:28 | 0:33:33
"I'm glad you asked," said the shopkeeper. | 0:33:33 | 0:33:36
"With these high heels, you can scratch | 0:33:36 | 0:33:39
"and look rather fashionable at the same time." | 0:33:39 | 0:33:42
For scratching behind Dog's ears, the high heels were simply divine. | 0:33:42 | 0:33:47
Unfortunately, they were dreadful to run in. | 0:33:47 | 0:33:51
He went flying, head over high heels. | 0:33:51 | 0:33:54
Dog took them back to the shop. | 0:33:54 | 0:33:58
"Have you got some that go a bit faster?" He asked. | 0:33:58 | 0:34:02
"Oh, yes," said the shopkeeper. | 0:34:02 | 0:34:05
"If you want to go super-fast, try skis. They go very fast indeed." | 0:34:05 | 0:34:11
"I'll take them!" said Dog. And he was gone | 0:34:11 | 0:34:14
before the shopkeeper could say, "But only on snow!" | 0:34:14 | 0:34:18
Without any snow, Dog's skis didn't move at all. | 0:34:18 | 0:34:22
He couldn't run or scratch or swim or dig. | 0:34:22 | 0:34:27
On his way back to the shop, Dog had another little think. | 0:34:27 | 0:34:33
"OK," he said to the shopkeeper, "I want something that's | 0:34:35 | 0:34:39
"good for digging, and swimming and stretching and running. | 0:34:39 | 0:34:44
"Oh, and nice and furry, too. Do you have anything like that?" | 0:34:44 | 0:34:49
"No," said the shopkeeper. "But you do. They're called paws!" | 0:34:49 | 0:34:57
WOOF | 0:34:57 | 0:34:58 | |
"Perfect!" said Dog. | 0:34:58 | 0:35:01
Dog was so pleased with his nice, furry, practical paws, | 0:35:01 | 0:35:06
that he scratched all the fleas from his coat, ran after his tail, | 0:35:06 | 0:35:12
swam round and round the Queen's lake until she told him | 0:35:12 | 0:35:16
to clear off, and dug a big hole to re-bury his very best bone. | 0:35:16 | 0:35:21
Finally, Dog went home and picked out another brilliant book to read. | 0:35:21 | 0:35:27
This time it was about a girl who didn't wear any rubbish boots, | 0:35:27 | 0:35:32
but did wear... | 0:35:32 | 0:35:34
A lovely red hood. | 0:35:34 | 0:35:37
"Hmm," thought Dog. | 0:35:37 | 0:35:40
And that story was called Dog In Boots. I hope you enjoyed it. | 0:35:41 | 0:35:46
Now it's time for you to go to bed. I'll see you soon. Night-night. | 0:35:46 | 0:35:51
