HE CHUCKLES | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
Jack in tonight's bedtime story goes on a big adventure | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
on a shiny new tractor. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
The story is called Jack's Tractor, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
and it's by Thomas Taylor and John Kelly. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
Here's Jack. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:26
His tractor's big and red. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
His trailer's fixed behind. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
"I'm going for a ride," he said, "to see what I can find!" | 0:00:30 | 0:00:34
"Brum, brum, brum..." | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
He held the wheel, he shook the ground, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
he roared the engine's noise. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
It's just the sort of noisy sound that pleases little boys. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:46
He drove the tractor to a farm and horrified the hens. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:51
The sheep all bleated in alarm, the pigs broke from their pens. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
"Brum-brum!" | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
And then he heard a silly sound, a honk all wild and wonky. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
Reversing gear, he backed around, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
and loaded up a donkey! | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
"Ee-haw! Ee-haw!" | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
He drove the tractor through the zoo and scattered the giraffes. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
The grizzly bears were scared off, too, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
though monkeys got their laughs. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
"Squawk!" | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
But when he heard the parrot shriek, Jack knew just what to do. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
He caught him by his orange beak and loaded him up, too! | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
"Ee-haw!" "Brum-brum!" | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
He drove that tractor to a swamp, a prehistoric glade. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
"Squawk!" "Ee-haw!" "Brum-brum!" | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
He made the giant monsters stomp with all the noise he made, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
then suddenly, a beast jumped out - a wriggly ticklesore. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:43
He tickled Jack, Jack tickled him, then shut the trailer door. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
He drove his tractor to the plains, where lions growled and roared. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:52
He had to drive it very fast to get a lion on board. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
"Grrrr!" | 0:01:56 | 0:01:57
"Raaaar!" | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
Then in Antarctic icy wastes, he heard a walrus bellow. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:04
He slid the tractor to a stop to load the splendid fellow. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
"Grr-rrrrr" "Squawk!" "Ee-haw!" "Tickle-pickle!" | 0:02:08 | 0:02:14
"Brum-brum!" | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
By now, the tractor creaked and groaned with all this noisy weight, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:20
so Jack turned round to head off home before it got too late. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:25
But as the sun went quickly down, and darkness closed the day, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Jack stopped the tractor, looked around - | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
"I do not know the way!" | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Then suddenly, out jumped a mouse - "I know just what to do... | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
"I'll lead you straight back to your house - | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
"all day I've followed you! | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
"But listen, now that night has come, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
"you mustn't make such noise. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
"It's bedtime now, we need our sleep, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
"yes, even little boys." | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
They drove back through the icy wastes, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
where Walrus was quite quiet. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
"Mmmmmmm..." | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
Then over the plains they ranged again, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
but Lion made no riot. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
"Grrrrrr..." | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
And as they crossed the boggy swamp, the ticklesore just waved. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
"Shhhhhh..." | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
The parrot, and the donkey, too, were very well behaved. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:17
"Squawk!" "Ee-haw!" | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
Till in the end, they came back home. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
"Now, what a noisy day. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
"And thank you, Mouse, for helping out, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
"and showing us the way. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29
"And though you don't go "Brum!" or bray or squawk or growl or roar, | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
"your little squeak has saved the day," | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
said Jack, and Mouse said, "Snore!" | 0:03:36 | 0:03:40
And that story was called Jack's Tractor. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
Jack went to some very exciting places on his tractor, didn't he? | 0:03:44 | 0:03:49
What an amazing adventure he had! | 0:03:49 | 0:03:51
Now, it's time for you to say "Snore!" just like the mouse. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:58
Yes, it's time to settle down and have a good night's sleep, | 0:03:58 | 0:04:03
so that you can go on more adventures tomorrow. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:09
HE SNORES | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
Goodnight. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:12
