CBeebies Bedtime Story.

Hello. I'm Damian.

I hope you're ready for tonight's bedtime story,

which is one of my favourites.

It's called The Baby In The Hat,

and is by Allan Ahlberg and Andre Amstutz.

My best friend caught a baby -

schoom! - in his hat. It's true.

The baby's mother gave him half a crown.

Believe me!

He spent the money on a railway ride, for two.

Got lost in London. Oh, the fog was thick.

Fell off a bridge and landed in a ship.

"Ahoy, there!"

Sailed down the river to a stormy sea.

"Oh, no!"

Became a cabin boy.

And then, a mate.

"Aye, aye, sir!"

Engaged with pirates in the southern seas.

"Hurrah!"

Served good King William's Navy against the French.

My best friend, then a captain he became,

with loyal crew and stout ship of his own.

-"Aye, aye, sir!"

-"Aye, aye, sir!"

-"Aye, aye, sir!"

-"Aye, aye, sir!"

"Aye, aye, sir!"

Then home at last with treasure in his trunk.

My dear friend, he walked that street

where he had caught the baby,

a different, grander hat upon his head.

And saw a smiling face up at the window and gave - ah! -

a little gasp, and fell in love.

My best friend, I - his best man - soon was married.

-"Hurrah!"

-"Hurrah!"

-"Hurrah!"

-"Hurrah!"

His bride, she was that baby.

And now they sailed the southern seas together,

with loyal crew and baby of their own.

It's true.
