Hello. My name's Ashley. | 0:22:07 | 0:22:10
Is everything peaceful and quiet in your house, | 0:22:10 | 0:22:14
all ready for bedtime? | 0:22:14 | 0:22:16
Well, Sam, in tonight's story, is looking for some quiet as well. | 0:22:16 | 0:22:22
Shall we see if he can find any? | 0:22:22 | 0:22:24
This story is called Too Noisy, | 0:22:24 | 0:22:28
and it's by Malachy Doyle and Ed Vere. | 0:22:28 | 0:22:31
Listen while I tell you about a bunch of Bungles - | 0:22:33 | 0:22:38
a great, enormous family, | 0:22:38 | 0:22:41
and they're noisy. | 0:22:41 | 0:22:43
Oh, so noisy. | 0:22:43 | 0:22:45
Crash! | 0:22:45 | 0:22:46
Jangle! | 0:22:46 | 0:22:48
Meet the Bungles. Whistle, tweetle, toot! | 0:22:48 | 0:22:51
Mama Bungle trills and tinkles. | 0:22:53 | 0:22:55
-Papa wheezes, then he sneezes. -A-choo! | 0:22:55 | 0:22:59
Granny Bungle clicks and clacks, | 0:22:59 | 0:23:01
and Grandpa Bill's a boomer. | 0:23:01 | 0:23:03
Bella bangs on pots and pans, | 0:23:03 | 0:23:06
and Fitz and Finn, the Bungle babies, | 0:23:06 | 0:23:08
squeak and squawk and squelch! | 0:23:08 | 0:23:11
"Oh, will you ever shush?!" cried Sam, | 0:23:12 | 0:23:16
the middle one - the quiet one. | 0:23:16 | 0:23:19
The Bungle full of dreams. | 0:23:19 | 0:23:22
"There isn't room to think around here, | 0:23:22 | 0:23:24
"all boom and bash and wallop. | 0:23:24 | 0:23:28
"Oh, I want it to be peaceful, but it's not. It never is." | 0:23:28 | 0:23:32
So he upped, and so he offed, | 0:23:32 | 0:23:35
and so he wandered to the wood. | 0:23:35 | 0:23:39
"Ah," he sighed, "that's better," | 0:23:41 | 0:23:44
as he looked around at clouds and trees | 0:23:44 | 0:23:48
and greens and blues and water. | 0:23:48 | 0:23:51
He sat and looked and thought | 0:23:51 | 0:23:55
and looked and sat and hummed a hum. | 0:23:55 | 0:23:59
"The sky is blue! | 0:23:59 | 0:24:02
"My shoe is too! | 0:24:02 | 0:24:04
"It rhymes", said Sam. "I like it." | 0:24:04 | 0:24:09
He had another little walk, | 0:24:09 | 0:24:11
then sat and looked and thought | 0:24:11 | 0:24:15
and looked and sat and hummed again. | 0:24:15 | 0:24:19
"I can see a funny tree! | 0:24:19 | 0:24:21
"Stripy, just like Mama B. | 0:24:21 | 0:24:24
"It rhymes," said Sam. "I love it." | 0:24:24 | 0:24:28
Sam upped and offed and wandered, | 0:24:28 | 0:24:33
deeper deep into the wood. | 0:24:33 | 0:24:38
But eek! He felt a creepy-crawly climbing up his trouser leg. | 0:24:38 | 0:24:44
"Oh!" he said. | 0:24:44 | 0:24:46
"It's dark," he said. | 0:24:46 | 0:24:48
"I think I might be lost," he said. | 0:24:48 | 0:24:52
Then "Bleek!" | 0:24:52 | 0:24:53
He felt a flitter flutter flap around his face. | 0:24:53 | 0:24:56
"Oh," he said. | 0:24:56 | 0:24:58
"I'm scared," he said. | 0:24:58 | 0:25:00
"I wished I hadn't dared," he said, | 0:25:00 | 0:25:03
"go off alone all on my own." | 0:25:03 | 0:25:06
Then, "Icky beek!" | 0:25:06 | 0:25:07
A slippy-slidey slithered down his neck. | 0:25:07 | 0:25:11
He opened up his lips, then he opened up his mouth, | 0:25:11 | 0:25:15
then he opened up his throat and bellowed, | 0:25:15 | 0:25:17
"Help! Help! Help!" | 0:25:17 | 0:25:21
He listened and he listened | 0:25:23 | 0:25:26
and, well, first, Sam heard a little sound - | 0:25:26 | 0:25:31
a trilling and a tinkling. | 0:25:31 | 0:25:34
And then he heard a bigger sound - | 0:25:34 | 0:25:37
a wheezing and a sneezing. | 0:25:37 | 0:25:39
-A-choo! -And clicking and a clicking. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:42
Then a boom-ty, boom-ty booming | 0:25:42 | 0:25:45
growing loud and loud again, | 0:25:45 | 0:25:48
till it was like a hurricane of lovely noise. | 0:25:48 | 0:25:54
SHE SIGHS | 0:25:54 | 0:25:56
The sun came through the trees | 0:25:56 | 0:25:58
and so did Mama Bungle, Papa Bungle, | 0:25:58 | 0:26:00
Grandpa Bill, and Granny too. | 0:26:00 | 0:26:02
Bella banging pots and pans | 0:26:02 | 0:26:04
and Fitz and Finn, the Bungle babies, | 0:26:04 | 0:26:07
squeak, squawk, squelch! | 0:26:07 | 0:26:10
"It's Sam!" they yelled. | 0:26:10 | 0:26:13
"We've found him!" | 0:26:13 | 0:26:15
And they gathered all around him, and they hugged him, | 0:26:15 | 0:26:19
and they kissed him, | 0:26:19 | 0:26:21
and they said how much they missed him. | 0:26:21 | 0:26:25
He'd missed them too, he said. | 0:26:25 | 0:26:27
"Although you're very loud, you crowd, I'm glad to be a Bungle." | 0:26:27 | 0:26:32
Well, everybody cheered, "Hooray!" | 0:26:32 | 0:26:37
And Sam was oh, so happy, for he loved them - | 0:26:37 | 0:26:42
every one. | 0:26:42 | 0:26:44
"Quiet's good," said Mama B. | 0:26:44 | 0:26:47
"It is," said Sam, and nodded. | 0:26:47 | 0:26:52
"But noise is good as well sometimes, | 0:26:52 | 0:26:55
"especially when you're lost". | 0:26:55 | 0:26:58
And that's the ending. | 0:26:58 | 0:27:00
Happy ending. That's the end. | 0:27:00 | 0:27:03
That story was called Too Noisy. | 0:27:06 | 0:27:09
Whew! What a very noisy family the Bungles are. | 0:27:09 | 0:27:14
Now it's time to stop all the crashes and jangles | 0:27:14 | 0:27:17
and whistles and toots, | 0:27:17 | 0:27:19
and find somewhere quiet and peaceful, | 0:27:19 | 0:27:22
where you can go to sleep. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:24
So, off you go to bed. | 0:27:26 | 0:27:28
I'll be back again soon with another bedtime story. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:33
Sh. | 0:27:33 | 0:27:35 | |
Sweet dreams. | 0:27:37 | 0:27:39
