Hello. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:07
My name's Shaun. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
And tonight's bedtime story is one of my favourites. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:13
Would you like to hear it? | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
Great! | 0:00:15 | 0:00:16
It's called Sir Lilypad - A Tall Tale Of A Small Frog. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:22
It's by Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
Once upon a time in a deep, dark bog | 0:00:26 | 0:00:30
lived a teeny tiny speckled frog. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:34
His brothers called him Little Tad, but he preferred... | 0:00:34 | 0:00:39
Sir Lilypad! | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
Sir Lilypad, the proud and free - | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
a knight in slimy armour, he. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
Sir Lilypad the brave and wise, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
slayer of the dragonflies. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:53
But no-one takes you seriously | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
when you're not much bigger than a pea. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
And so, Sir Lily wished and longed | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
to grow up big and tall and strong. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08
Then, one night, tucked in his nook, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
he read the most terrific book. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
Frog to prince, with one small kiss | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
From a grateful royal miss? | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
Sir Lily scratched his speckled head - | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
"I'd never thought of that!", he said. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
"If I could save a princess true, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
"I'd surely grow a foot or two!" | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Next morning, feeling tough and brave, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
he hopped off to the local cave, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
and found an ogre, vast and green, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
a-watering his runner beans. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
"Halt, foul ogre! | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
"Where's the dame?", | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
croaked Sir Lily, eyes aflame. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
The ogre shook his massive head. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
"I'm far too old for that," he said. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
"And you're too small, don't you agree, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
"for bashing giant folk like me?" | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
"You should be getting home, my dear. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
"Does your mummy know you're here?" | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
Sir Lily blushed from tip to toe - | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
but was he beaten? Heavens, no! | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
And so he searched the bolted towers, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
the forest and the field of flowers, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
the witch's house | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
and the wizard's tree. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
But every one was princess-free! | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
By now, Sir Lily had a stitch. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
His chainmail pants began to itch. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
His sandwiches were getting soggy - | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
oh, what a wretched little froggy! | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
But wait a sec - what's that over there? | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
A sudden glimpse of flowing hair! | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
Sparkling eyes and cherry lips, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
a broadsword slung around the hips. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
Still, never mind, a fair princess - | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
and in a dragon's grip, no less! | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
Sir Lily gave a mighty croak | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
and charged right through the dragon's smoke. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
"Release that maiden fair!", | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
He roared, then poked him with his wooden sword. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:18
"I say," said Dragon, "Do you mind? | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
"It's rude to creep up from behind!" | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
But Sir Lily, undeterred, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
pretended that he hadn't heard. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
"Now flee back to your darkened den, | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
"or else I'll poke you once again!" | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
"Slow down, Froggy!", laughed the lady, | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
"That's my friend! No need to save me. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:42
"And have you seen me in a fight? | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
"I just don't need a noble knight." | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
Brave Sir Lily turned quite pale. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:51
Then suddenly, began to wail! | 0:03:51 | 0:03:55
"But now I'll be forever small! | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
"And not a proper knight at all! | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
"The other frogs will call me stuff | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
"like Weedy Pants and Sugar Puff! | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
"I'll always just be tiny Tad, | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
"and never brave Sir Lilypad!" | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
The Princess shook her head and laughed. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:15
"But, Lilypad, you're being daft! | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
"Froglets can be heroes too. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
"Why don't you join our motley crew?" | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
"Can I? Really?", Lily blinked. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:28
"You betcha, Froggy," Princess winked. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
"Arise, Sir Lilypad The Green. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
"Bravest frog we've ever seen." | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
From that day on, our fearless knight | 0:04:38 | 0:04:41
forgot his under-average height. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:44
He sought adventure, joined the fray, | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
and poked some baddies on the way. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:49
He cut the bullies down to size, | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
stood up for all the little guys. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
Till news spread far across the land | 0:04:55 | 0:04:59
of Lily and his gallant band. | 0:04:59 | 0:05:02
And centuries later, tales were read | 0:05:02 | 0:05:06
to wide-eyed tadpoles, tucked in bed. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:11
Of all the great adventures had | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
by small, but brave, Sir Lilypad. | 0:05:14 | 0:05:18
Hurrah for Sir Lilypad - | 0:05:20 | 0:05:22
our heroes come in all shapes and sizes. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:27
Hope you enjoyed that. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:29
It's bedtime now, so I'll say goodnight. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
I hope you sleep tight. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:34
See you again soon. Night-night. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:36 |
