Hello. My name's Lesley. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
Are you ready for bed? | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
Tonight's story is about someone who IS ready for bed, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
but when she climbs in, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
she finds a few surprises. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
Will she ever get to sleep? | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
Let's find out. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
The story is called A Bed Of Your Own | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
and is by Mij Kelly with pictures by Mary Mcquillan. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:34
This is the story of Suzy Sue, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:39
ready for bed, just like you. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
She brushed her teeth, she picked up her ted, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
she clambered and climbed | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
into her bed. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:49
She yawned a huge yawn and turned out the light. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
But something, somewhere... | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
wasn't quite right. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
"I'm squished!" | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
"I'm squashed!" | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
"I'm uncomfy!" she said. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
"I think there's something wrong with the bed." | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
"I know," said the cow. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
"This bed's far too small. I've tried and I've tried, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
"but I can't sleep at all!" | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
Oh, what a shock. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
What a drama of dramas! A cow in the bed?! | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
A cow in pyjamas?! | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
"What are you doing?" said Suzy Sue. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:35
"What do you think?" said the cow, with a moo. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
"I'm trying to go to sleep, of course." | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
"Oh, please, do be quiet," grumbled the horse. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
"How in the world can I get a nap with the pair of you going | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
"yappety-yap?" | 0:01:49 | 0:01:50
What a shock. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
What a bolt from the blue! | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
A horse in the bed with his cuddly toys, too! | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
And when Suzy Sue fell back in a heap, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
what she thought was a pillow was really | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
a sheep! | 0:02:08 | 0:02:09
Baa! | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11 | |
"How can I sleep? How can I doze? | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
"Please, please, let go of my nose!" | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
Oh, what a shock. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
What a dreadful surprise! | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
By now, Suzy Sue was getting quite wise! | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
She threw back the covers, she called loud and clear, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
"Are any more animals hiding in here?" | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
"Just little me," somebody said. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
And Suzy Sue fell out of the bed. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:40
Goodness gracious! Oh, golly! Oh, gosh! | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
No wonder the bed was a terrible squash! | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
No wonder nobody could get any sleep with a goat and a horse | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
and a cow and a sheep all tossing and turning, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
all hogging the covers and fighting for pillows | 0:02:52 | 0:02:56
and kicking each other! | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
"For goodness' sake!" yawned Suzy Sue. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
"What on earth's got into you?" | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
"Don't you have a bed of your own?" | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
SIGHS | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10 | |
"We can't sleep there," said the sheep with a groan. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
"It's too hot." "It's too cold." | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
"It's too dark!" "It's too light!" | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
"There's something about it that isn't quite right." | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
But Suzy Sue was stern and strong. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:25
She led them back where they belonged. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
She tucked them up | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
and then she read a book about going to bed. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
She hugged them all and said, | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
"Goodnight." | 0:03:38 | 0:03:39
But just as she went to turn down the light, | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
she had an idea and suddenly said, | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
"It's all very well this going to bed. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:50
"But what really matters is falling asleep." | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
"But that's the hardest part," said the sheep. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:59
So, Suzy Sue climbed in the bed. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
"What you have to do," she said, | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
"is feel how your bed is all comfy and cosy. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:10
"Feel how it makes you all drowsy and dozy. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:18
"Feel a safe, soothing softness beginning to spread | 0:04:19 | 0:04:23
"from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:29
"And all of your worries are wafting away | 0:04:30 | 0:04:35
"like a bunch of balloons on a cloudless spring day. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:39
"And you're in a boat floating downstream, | 0:04:39 | 0:04:43
"drifting away on a beautiful dream." | 0:04:43 | 0:04:47
In the silence that followed, | 0:04:49 | 0:04:53
you could hear a pin drop. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:55
"Go on," said the cow. | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
"Please don't stop." | 0:05:00 | 0:05:02
SHE SNORES | 0:05:02 | 0:05:03
"Oh, dear!" said the goat. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:05
"Oh, dear! Oh, dear! | 0:05:05 | 0:05:08
"She's fallen asleep. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:10
"But she can't sleep here! | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
"She's hogging the bed! She's starting to snore! | 0:05:13 | 0:05:16
"She'll keep us awake. It's happened before!" | 0:05:16 | 0:05:20
"Oh, silly Suzy Sue," they said. | 0:05:20 | 0:05:23
"Come on, let's take you back to bed." | 0:05:24 | 0:05:27
See, each of us has our own place to rest. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:31
A mouse has a hole. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:33
The hen has a nest. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
The pig has a sty. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:36
PIG GRUNTS | 0:05:36 | 0:05:37
It's smelly, but snug. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:39
The dog has his basket, | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
the cat has her rug. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:42
They all have beds! | 0:05:42 | 0:05:45
And you do, too. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:46
SHE SNORES | 0:05:46 | 0:05:48
So, snuggle down, Suzy Sue. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:50
SHE SNORES | 0:05:50 | 0:05:53
That was the story of Suzy Sue, | 0:05:53 | 0:05:55
safe in her own bed... | 0:05:55 | 0:05:58
..like you should be, too. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:02
That story was called A Bed Of Your Own. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
What a squash it was in Suzy's bed! | 0:06:06 | 0:06:08
I hope your bed isn't full of animals like hers. | 0:06:08 | 0:06:11
Well, maybe a soft toy to cuddle up with. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:15
Now, it's time that you went to sleep. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:18
So, I'll say night-night. | 0:06:18 | 0:06:21
Sweet dreams. | 0:06:21 | 0:06:22
I'll see you again soon. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25 |
