One, two, three...

four, five, six.

0:46:100:46:14

Perfect! Everyone's here.

0:46:140:46:17

Hello. I'm Sue.

0:46:180:46:21

I'm counting my toys to make sure

0:46:210:46:23

they're all ready for tonight's Bedtime Story.

0:46:230:46:27

Would you like to hear it?

0:46:270:46:29

Great! It's called Kipper's Toybox, and it's by Mick Inkpen.

0:46:290:46:35

Someone or something had been nibbling a hole in Kipper's toybox.

0:46:370:46:43

"I hope my toys are safe," said Kipper.

0:46:430:46:47

He emptied them out and counted them.

0:46:470:46:50

"One, two, three,

0:46:500:46:53

"four, five, six,

0:46:530:46:56

"seven."

0:46:560:46:57

That's wrong," he said. "There should only be six."

0:46:570:47:03

Kipper counted his toys again.

0:47:030:47:06

This time, he lined them up to make it easier.

0:47:060:47:09

"Big Owl, one.

0:47:090:47:11

"Hippopotamus, two.

0:47:110:47:13

"Sock Thing, three.

0:47:130:47:15

"Slipper, four.

0:47:150:47:17

"Rabbit, five.

0:47:170:47:18

"Mr Snake, six.

0:47:180:47:20

"Oh. That's better," he said.

0:47:200:47:23

Kipper put his toys back in the toybox, then he counted them

0:47:230:47:27

once more just to make sure.

0:47:270:47:30

"One, two, three,

0:47:300:47:34

"four, five, six,

0:47:340:47:36

"seven...

0:47:360:47:37

"eight noses.

0:47:370:47:39

"That's two too many noses!" said Kipper.

0:47:410:47:45

Kipper grabbed Big Owl and threw him out of the toybox.

0:47:450:47:50

"One," he said, crossly.

0:47:500:47:52

Out went Hippopotamus. "Two!"

0:47:520:47:55

Out went Rabbit. "Three!"

0:47:550:47:58

Out went Mr Snake. "Four!"

0:47:580:48:00

Out went Slipper. "Five!"

0:48:000:48:04

But where was six? Where was Sock Thing?

0:48:040:48:08

Kipper was upset.

0:48:100:48:12

Next to Rabbit, Sock Thing was his favourite, and now he was gone.

0:48:120:48:17

"I won't lose any more of you," said Kipper.

0:48:170:48:21

He picked up the rest of his toys and put them in his basket.

0:48:210:48:24

Then he climbed in and kept watch until bedtime.

0:48:240:48:29

That night, Kipper was woken by a strange noise.

0:48:290:48:34

It was coming from the corner of the room.

0:48:340:48:38

Kipper turned on the light.

0:48:380:48:41

There, wriggling across the floor,

0:48:410:48:44

was Sock Thing!

0:48:440:48:46

It must have been Sock Thing who had been eating his toybox.

0:48:460:48:51

Kipper was not sure what to do.

0:48:510:48:54

None of his toys had ever come to life before.

0:48:540:48:58

He jumped back in his basket and hid behind Big Owl.

0:48:580:49:03

Sock Thing wriggled slowly round in a circle

0:49:030:49:07

and bumped into the basket.

0:49:070:49:09

Then he began to wriggle back the way he had come.

0:49:090:49:13

He did not seem to know where he was going.

0:49:130:49:16

Kipper followed.

0:49:160:49:18

Quickly, Kipper grabbed him by the nose.

0:49:200:49:24

Sock Thing squeaked and wriggled harder.

0:49:240:49:28

Then a little tail appeared.

0:49:280:49:30

A little, pink tail.

0:49:300:49:33

And a little voice said, "Don't hurt him!"

0:49:330:49:37

"So it was you!

0:49:390:49:41

"You've been making the hole in my toybox," said Kipper.

0:49:410:49:45

It was true.

0:49:450:49:47

The mice had been nibbling pieces of Kipper's toybox

0:49:470:49:51

to make their nest.

0:49:510:49:53

"You must promise not to nibble it again," said Kipper.

0:49:530:49:58

"We promise," said the mice.

0:49:580:50:00

In return, Kipper let the mice share his basket.

0:50:020:50:06

It was much cosier than a nest made of cardboard,

0:50:060:50:10

and the two little mice never nibbled Kipper's toybox again.

0:50:100:50:14

But their babies did.

0:50:140:50:17

They nibbled EVERYTHING.

0:50:170:50:19

That story was called Kipper's Toybox.

0:50:210:50:25

Kipper had a few more friends than he expected, didn't he?

0:50:250:50:29

But I'm sure he didn't mind sharing his cosy basket with all of them.

0:50:290:50:33

Now it's time for you to get tucked up, because it's your bedtime.

0:50:330:50:37

I'll see you again very soon. Night-night.
