Oh, no, what a mess. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:09
Oh, hello. I'm Shelley. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
Do you know who's left this mess here? | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
You don't? | 0:08:14 | 0:08:15
Hmm, neither do I. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:17
Maybe there's some clues. Let's see what's there. | 0:08:17 | 0:08:21
There's some bowls, | 0:08:21 | 0:08:22
some spoons, | 0:08:22 | 0:08:24
some cereal and lots of popcorn. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:27
No? I still don't know, do you? | 0:08:27 | 0:08:30
I did want to tell you tonight's bedtime story, | 0:08:30 | 0:08:33
but I really should tidy up. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:36
I know, I'll tell you the story and then tidy up. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:39
Might help us work out who's left this here. | 0:08:39 | 0:08:42
There's a boy who finds a mess in tonight's story. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:45
It's by Joanna Harrison and it's called Grizzly Dad. | 0:08:45 | 0:08:49
Dad woke up in a grizzly mood. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
All morning, he groaned and grizzled and grumped | 0:08:53 | 0:08:57
and then he went back to bed. | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
He was just like a bear with a sore head. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
When Mum finished clearing up, | 0:09:01 | 0:09:04
she and my brother and sister had to go out. | 0:09:04 | 0:09:06
"Go and see how Dad is," she said. | 0:09:06 | 0:09:09
So I went upstairs to wake him. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
"Dad," I whispered, but he only grunted. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
"Dad," I said, but he only snuffled. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:18
"Dad!" I yelled and pulled back the bed covers. | 0:09:18 | 0:09:21
But it wasn't Dad in bed at all. | 0:09:21 | 0:09:23
It was a great big grizzly bear. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:27
I should've been frightened, but the grumpy look reminded me of someone. | 0:09:27 | 0:09:32
"Dad," I said, "Is that you?" | 0:09:32 | 0:09:34
The bear rushed off to the mirror. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:37
He grunted miserably. | 0:09:37 | 0:09:38
"Don't worry, Dad, I'll look after you." | 0:09:38 | 0:09:41
So I wiped his eyes, combed his hair, brushed his teeth, | 0:09:41 | 0:09:45
he was a bit smelly, and gave him breakfast. | 0:09:45 | 0:09:48
Now that Dad was a bear, his manners were awful. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
And when he rummaged in the fridge, I'd had enough. | 0:09:51 | 0:09:55
"Dad, I'm fed up with you. First you're in a bad mood, | 0:09:55 | 0:09:58
"then you turn into a bear and now you're making a horrible mess." | 0:09:58 | 0:10:03
Dad looked at me in a funny way. Before I knew it, we were off. | 0:10:03 | 0:10:07
Heading into town. Vroom! | 0:10:07 | 0:10:09
First we went to the cinema. | 0:10:10 | 0:10:12
It was great. We had the place to ourselves. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:15
I began to realise that having a grizzly bear as a dad wasn't so bad. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:19
Then we went to the park. | 0:10:19 | 0:10:21
I taught Dad how to skateboard and he taught me how to scratch and climb | 0:10:21 | 0:10:26
and how to just lie about doing nothing at all. | 0:10:26 | 0:10:31
When we got home, we made honey sandwiches and watched football. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:35
It had been the best day ever. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:38
"Thanks, Dad," I said. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:40
"You're great. Even if you are a bear." | 0:10:40 | 0:10:43
Then Dad did what dads do best, | 0:10:43 | 0:10:45
he gave me a great big bear hug. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:48
When I looked up, he wasn't a bear anymore. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:51
Suddenly Mum came back and everything returned to normal. | 0:10:51 | 0:10:55
Well, almost. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:57
"What a mess!" said Mum. | 0:10:57 | 0:10:59
"This place looks like a pig sty." | 0:10:59 | 0:11:01
"Sorry," we grunted and trotted off to clear it up. | 0:11:01 | 0:11:05
And that story was called Grizzly Dad. | 0:11:06 | 0:11:09
So that's who's made all this mess. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:12
Well, I'm gonna get tidying up while you go to bed. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:16
I'll see you soon for another story. Night, night. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:20
Right, where will I start? | 0:11:20 | 0:11:22
