Welcome to the world of epic.

0:00:040:00:07

Sit back, strap yourself in

0:00:080:00:10

and get ready to become epic at everything!

0:00:100:00:13

Welcome to your quick blast of epic-ness.

0:00:160:00:19

So what are we waiting for? Let's do this!

0:00:190:00:22

First up, ask yourself this - do you like hitting things?

0:00:270:00:31

Do you want to be in a band?

0:00:310:00:33

If your answers are yes, then this will be right up your street.

0:00:330:00:37

Hey, what's up? I'm Rob with Enter Shikari

0:00:390:00:41

and I'm going to teach you how to play the drums.

0:00:410:00:44

First up is how to hold your sticks.

0:00:460:00:48

Hold it between your thumb and your forefinger nice and loosely

0:00:480:00:52

so the balance is good.

0:00:520:00:53

It's the same on both hands.

0:00:530:00:55

-Next up, it's how to hit a drum.

-Ooh, sounds important.

0:00:550:00:59

Keep a nice, loose wrist.

0:00:590:01:01

Let the stick fall down and bounce back up off the drum,

0:01:010:01:04

letting gravity do the work.

0:01:040:01:05

Next up is doing single-stroke rolls on the drum.

0:01:080:01:12

You're going to be doing them in groups of four,

0:01:120:01:14

alternating between the right and left hand.

0:01:140:01:17

One, two, three, four.

0:01:170:01:19

When you get confident with that, you'll bring more of the drum kit in.

0:01:190:01:23

You're going to do the four beats on the cymbal.

0:01:230:01:25

On the first beat, we're going to have a kick drum

0:01:250:01:28

and on the third beat, we'll have a snare drum.

0:01:280:01:31

So it should sound like this.

0:01:310:01:32

SIMPLE DRUM BEAT One, two, three, four,

0:01:320:01:34

one, two, three, four,

0:01:340:01:36

one, two, three, four.

0:01:360:01:38

So when you're happy with the beat,

0:01:380:01:40

you can build up and get faster each time.

0:01:400:01:43

One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four.

0:01:430:01:46

PLAYS FASTER One, two, three, four.

0:01:460:01:49

One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four,

0:01:490:01:51

one, two, three, four... Drumming's epic!

0:01:510:01:54

So, after you've practised a lot, got good, get your mates together,

0:01:540:01:57

form a band and you could end up sounding something like this.

0:01:570:02:00

ROCK MUSIC PLAYS

0:02:000:02:02

I bet his neighbours love him(!)

0:02:020:02:04

Right, here's a science lady

0:02:060:02:08

who will arm you with some amazing skills.

0:02:080:02:10

Hi, I'm Fran Scott and I'm going to show you how to defy gravity.

0:02:120:02:16

-Whoa!

-Get a slinky and hold it up

0:02:160:02:19

and let the rest of it unravel

0:02:190:02:21

until it's nice and still.

0:02:210:02:23

What we're going to do is drop this slinky and the top of it will fall

0:02:230:02:27

but the bottom of the slinky should, for a moment,

0:02:270:02:30

stay where it is and defy gravity.

0:02:300:02:33

-No way!

-Here goes.

0:02:330:02:35

Hang on, that might just look like a dropped slinky

0:02:370:02:40

but watch again when we slow it down.

0:02:400:02:43

Keep your eye on the bottom of the slinky.

0:02:430:02:46

Fran releases it but the bottom doesn't move.

0:02:460:02:49

How do you explain that, then?

0:02:490:02:51

When I'm holding the slinky,

0:02:510:02:52

gravity is pulling it down but my hand is holding it up.

0:02:520:02:56

When I let go of the slinky, the top of it falls

0:02:560:02:59

but the bottom of it remains where it is just for a little bit

0:02:590:03:02

and that's because it takes a while

0:03:020:03:04

for the message that I've actually let go of the top of the slinky

0:03:040:03:07

to reach its bottom.

0:03:070:03:09

But when it does, the whole thing falls to the ground.

0:03:090:03:12

There you go, gravity defied.

0:03:140:03:16

Our next stop on Planet Epic is for all you milk-lovers.

0:03:180:03:22

That's everyone, right? Except me, I'm lactose intolerant.

0:03:220:03:26

-I'm Gareth and I'm going to show you how to milk a cow by hand.

-By hand?!

0:03:280:03:32

We need to make sure that everything's clean -

0:03:320:03:35

our hands, the bucket,

0:03:350:03:37

-even the old cow.

-Rude!

0:03:370:03:39

If we're not clean, we can get germs into the milk

0:03:390:03:42

and it can make you sick.

0:03:420:03:44

Oh, we do not want that.

0:03:440:03:46

Cows are very big and strong, so you've got to be careful.

0:03:460:03:50

Don't stand behind or don't stand in the wrong place.

0:03:500:03:54

-Er, yeah, it might wee on you.

-SPLASHING

0:03:540:03:57

Once we're clean, we're ready to milk.

0:03:570:03:59

-Now, this is an udder.

-Udder.

0:03:590:04:02

-And this is a teat.

-Teat.

0:04:020:04:05

-So, the bucket.

-Bucket.

0:04:050:04:07

You get into position

0:04:070:04:09

and we start to milk

0:04:090:04:12

so your thumb's at the top of the teat

0:04:120:04:15

and your index finger comes round

0:04:150:04:17

and each finger squashes as the milk comes through.

0:04:170:04:21

So you squash, squash.

0:04:210:04:23

Last one, get the last drop, release.

0:04:230:04:27

Once you've done that, you can do it two-handed.

0:04:270:04:30

Steady on there, Gareth. Let's not get carried away.

0:04:300:04:34

And that's how you milk a cow.

0:04:340:04:36

Nice one, Gareth. Make mine a pint of full fat.

0:04:360:04:39

So there you have it, your quick blast of epic-ness.

0:04:410:04:45

Now, go forth and be epic at everything!
