Shall we squiggle some things that start with the letter Q?

A quail...

a quince...

and a queen.

They all begin with the letter Q.

See if you can spot them in our story.

Once, there was a tiny...quail.

Cheep-cheep.

She was the smallest bird in the whole kingdom

and no-one noticed her.

I wish I could be as tall as a tree,

then everyone would notice me.

So the quail visited an enchanted garden

where a sparkling tree grew.

In its branches, she found a golden...

quince.

What a magical fruit.

She gobbled it up and made a wish.

Golden quince, make me as tall as a tree.

Suddenly, her beak...

feathers...and feet grew.

Soon, she was as tall as the sparkling tree.

Now everyone will notice me,

especially when I fly in the sky.

But when the quail flapped her feathers,

she couldn't leave the ground.

Never mind.

Everyone will notice my beautiful singing.

But as she opened her big beak, it made a terrible...

CHEEP!

Oh, dear!

At least everyone will notice me scamper through the grass.

But her feet were too big to scamper

and she nearly squished the sparkling tree.

Just then, a...queen appeared.

What are you doing in my garden?

I wanted to be as tall as a tree, but it's not fun at all.

I wish I was little again.

As the quail spoke

the sparkling tree glowed with magic once more.

Oh! I'm a tiny quail once more.

But look at your beak...

feathers and feet!

They've turned as golden as the sun!

And from that day, even though the quail

was the smallest bird in the kingdom,

everybody noticed her.

Cheep-cheep!
