what activities they do and

0:00:350:00:38

Today's lucky family who are

0:00:440:00:48

the Hassall family, with not one

0:00:480:00:52

We really need to be given a break

0:01:070:01:09

because our last holiday was probably the worst we've ever had in our life.

0:01:090:01:13

I think the children would say that

0:01:130:01:16

They can't go to a holiday without

0:01:160:01:19

odd museum and the odd church because I like to take in history,

0:01:210:01:24

I'm really fed up of Mum and Dad being able to speak a foreign

0:01:270:01:30

and I'd really like to go somewhere

0:01:300:01:33

They like to show off that they can

0:01:370:01:40

We don't do it to show off!

0:01:400:01:41

It's one of the first things I check out, does the telly work and what channels are on it?

0:01:520:01:56

He never gets off the sofa.

0:01:560:01:59

looking for is a channel for them.

0:01:590:02:02

you guys have different ideas when it comes to a fun family holiday.

0:02:200:02:23

Are you ready to hand over control?

0:02:230:02:26

Do we have to? Do we have to?

0:02:360:02:42

Watersports, because we all love

0:03:050:03:09

Well, I think I've got enough

0:03:120:03:14

And I've got a few ideas as well.

0:03:140:03:16

and I've put together three

0:03:210:03:25

But can they crack the clues

0:03:250:03:29

somewhere around here. A duck.

0:03:380:03:41

What flag is the country from?

0:03:460:03:50

Christmas turkey, with the tinsel.

0:03:570:03:59

Sailing, doing horse riding,

0:04:080:04:12

I don't know what the Christmas

0:04:120:04:14

I don't know any activities that

0:04:140:04:17

Well, they gobbled up those clues.

0:04:170:04:21

Well, that's a skateboard and snow, so it could be snowboarding.

0:04:280:04:32

Yeah, it could be husky sledding.

0:04:350:04:38

maybe somewhere like Iceland.

0:04:420:04:44

when he jumped out at me and

0:04:520:04:57

I think the rubber rings might mean that we're going on a water slide.

0:04:570:05:00

An? "Hello, my name is An."

0:05:000:05:03

She's having a very bad hair day.

0:05:030:05:23

an ironing board for board.

0:05:330:05:37

Turn these into surfboards.

0:05:420:05:44

It has a car, it has a sign that says "go" and a bell. A ding bell.

0:05:520:05:56

That is... The green and red flag with the logo in the middle.

0:06:000:06:05

It could be swimming with dolphins.

0:06:070:06:09

In the bucket there was wet...suits

0:06:100:06:14

so it could mean that you go swimming

0:06:140:06:18

want to know what the breaks are?

0:06:200:06:23

Did you enjoy trying to figure out

0:06:260:06:30

I bet you're desperate to know what your options are. Let's start, then.

0:06:300:06:34

Option number one is a wet and wild

0:06:340:06:37

in tantalising Turkey. Yay!

0:06:370:06:41

getting really wet on this break.

0:06:420:06:45

It's all about watersports.

0:06:450:06:47

Sailing, jet-skis and water-skiing

0:06:470:06:52

you'll be reaching new heights

0:06:520:06:55

It looks really, really fun.

0:06:590:07:01

So we don't need to look at

0:07:010:07:06

Where did you think that was?

0:07:060:07:09

An-dorra. An-dorr... No? No.

0:07:110:07:16

Have a look at this. There'll be no time for Dad to watch telly

0:07:260:07:30

because you'll be too busy carving up the slopes on a snowboard, tubing

0:07:300:07:35

on giant rubber rings and speeding across snow and ice on husky sleds.

0:07:350:07:41

It looks really cool. I like the snowboarding and the husky sledding.

0:07:410:07:55

but there are dolphins to spot

0:08:000:08:05

So you said you wanted to go surfing. What do you think?

0:08:050:08:08

It looks really cool. Do you need a bit more thinking time? Yes, please.

0:08:080:08:12

We can't pick both of them. What are we going to decide then?

0:08:170:08:20

Well, we get to make her, don't we?

0:08:280:08:31

Let me assess the situation.

0:08:340:08:36

Where have you decided to go, then?

0:08:420:08:45

There's just one last thing.

0:08:470:08:49

try and win one last amazing treat.

0:08:500:08:54

Well, not so good, because if you fail, Mum and Dad will get it. OK.

0:08:570:09:01

on an action-packed surfing

0:09:060:09:08

as they wave goodbye to sightseeing,

0:09:110:09:14

Come on, let's get packing. Yeah.

0:09:190:09:22

With their break just one day away,

0:09:220:09:25

to pack their parents' bags.

0:09:250:09:28

Shall I pack one of his ties? Yeah.

0:09:330:09:34

My worst nightmare would be

0:09:340:09:38

I sincerely hope the children don't leave anything important out.

0:09:440:10:15

and Mum and Dad still have no idea where their final destination is.

0:10:240:10:28

on the Gimme A Break fam cam.

0:10:280:10:32

I don't know where I'm going.

0:10:370:10:39

Are you bursting to tell us? Yes!

0:10:420:10:45

It's really hard to keep it a secret.

0:10:450:10:48

But first of all, you'll need these.

0:10:580:11:00

And you're going to need to do this.

0:11:030:11:07

Oh, you haven't got surfing!

0:11:070:11:11

Well, actually, we're going to Portugal on a surfing holiday.

0:11:110:11:16

I've never surfed in my life.

0:11:190:11:21

but we want to try it. Wow.

0:11:210:11:24

Where are you flying to? Portugal.

0:11:300:11:32

I had a feeling that it was going to be something where John would think

0:11:320:11:35

that's how I'm feeling right now.

0:11:350:11:39

I'm really excited. I am, too.

0:11:390:11:42

flight of just two and a half hours,

0:11:480:11:51

the Hassalls touch down in Portugal.

0:11:510:11:53

best known for its stunning beaches

0:11:530:12:00

Look, it's got a pool. It's so cool.

0:12:030:12:06

'That is a luxury view.' This is definitely the master bedroom.

0:12:110:12:41

I don't think I'm going to go around surfing in these, am I?

0:12:410:12:43

You've just brought far too much.

0:12:430:12:48

and undies to last the week.

0:12:510:12:54

I've certainly got plenty of choice. I think I've done quite well.

0:12:540:12:58

It's the first morning of the break.

0:12:580:13:00

Now, Mum and Dad are used to setting

0:13:000:13:03

Hope you're all settling in well.'

0:13:070:13:10

Oh, yes. Thank you. Thank you.

0:13:100:13:12

'Dad, you've already handed over control to the kids but how's about

0:13:170:13:21

'handing over the remote control?'

0:13:210:13:24

'Ellie and Matt are fed up with you hogging the telly on holiday.

0:13:260:13:29

'So this time, Dad, you will not

0:13:290:13:36

hands behind my back. Oh, no!

0:13:380:13:41

There'll be no more speaking in a foreign language. Yes!

0:13:420:13:45

At all? Is that polite to the local to speak English all the time?

0:13:450:13:50

'The kids have had enough of you

0:13:500:13:52

'chat, chat, chattering away

0:13:520:13:55

'what you're on about. They think you do it just to show off.'

0:13:550:13:58

Not true. We do it to encourage them to learn the language.

0:13:580:14:00

'Ready for Rule number three?' Yes!

0:14:040:14:07

jokes are strictly forbidden.'

0:14:150:14:19

the hardest one of the lot.

0:14:190:14:26

'Hopefully, there'll be no rule breaks, because there will be

0:14:260:14:29

'to tell you all about that

0:14:330:14:40

Your mum gets off really easy.

0:14:400:14:43

Absolutely gutted about the rules.

0:14:430:14:46

The worst one is going to be the silly jokes, not being allowed to tell any silly jokes on holiday.

0:14:460:14:57

Time for the Hassall family to get wetsuited up and on with the first activity of the day.

0:14:570:15:07

the funniest surfer, either will do.

0:15:070:15:09

cold the water is going to be.

0:15:090:15:12

I'm your surfing instructor.

0:15:140:15:19

First we need to decide which foot you put in front in surfing.

0:15:190:15:23

forward or the right foot forward.

0:15:230:15:25

When you get dizzy, tell me.

0:15:250:15:28

So you put your right foot forward.

0:15:330:15:35

It's called the goofy foot.

0:15:400:15:43

Go to position number one and stretch

0:15:430:15:46

The left foot right next to the knee.

0:15:460:15:49

Those moves might be easy on the beach, but how about in the water?

0:15:510:15:55

than I thought it would be.

0:16:370:16:39

It's just an exhilarating feeling.

0:16:390:16:42

first to stand up? Not Mum.

0:16:490:16:54

After a morning in the waves,

0:17:200:17:30

When we went out of the harbour it was quite slow, but then we started

0:17:330:17:43

It was the best feeling ever.

0:17:430:17:46

What do you think dolphins do when they can't make up their mind?

0:17:540:17:59

We were looking for dolphins and it inspired a dolphin joke I'm afraid.

0:18:070:18:12

You've got to look really closely at the surface of the water.

0:18:190:18:24

Oh, yeah, I've seen a little

0:18:280:18:31

Seeing dolphins in their natural habitat in the wild was just amazing.

0:18:320:18:37

I'm really loving the kids being

0:18:510:18:53

the kind of thing we're going to do,

0:18:530:18:57

Matthew, that's really disgusting.

0:19:060:19:10

Oh, well, come on, it's time to get on with the next activity.

0:19:100:19:18

Lesson number two is all about learning to catch the wave.

0:19:250:19:31

but Ellie and Matt haven't forgotten

0:20:110:20:15

Now it's time to settle the score.

0:20:150:20:17

For that terrible joke on the boat

0:20:170:20:22

Mum and Dad, you've been really good at trying out new things.

0:20:520:20:56

We have. We've got one more thing for you, a go-karting race.

0:20:560:21:01

I definitely am going to win because I think I'm the better driver.

0:21:090:21:14

He won't be too happy about that.

0:21:510:22:05

Come on, Dad, you've still got half the track to get round.

0:22:280:22:31

Hopefully he'll put his foot

0:22:310:22:35

allowed now to speak in Portuguese.

0:22:410:22:45

to have a really good think

0:22:450:22:48

about what I'm going to say. I'm going to really milk it.

0:22:480:22:50

To celebrate a great day, Ellie and Matt take Mum and Dad to dinner.

0:22:550:22:59

Hang on, what are they wearing? I think they're going to kick you out.

0:22:590:23:03

I'm only wearing what you packed.

0:23:030:23:07

today and it looks like this might

0:23:070:23:10

be the chance she's been waiting for. Hit them with some Portuguese.

0:23:100:23:13

Espetada mixta, bifinhos de porco, hamburger de vaca, e spaguetti

0:23:130:23:17

Not sure how impressed Matt and Ellie are with Mum's language skills

0:23:220:23:26

Just remember this is the only

0:23:260:23:28

It's the final day of the break and after a quick dip in the pool

0:23:400:23:44

they're off on another activity and they've certainly saved

0:23:440:23:48

MATT: Mum and Dad still don't know

0:23:500:23:53

Are you excited about where

0:23:530:23:56

It's one of my life dreams.

0:23:560:23:59

And it's finally about to happen.

0:23:590:24:01

Mum and Dad, we've brought you here to meet some dolphins. Yeah!

0:24:030:24:06

I'm really excited because I'm about to meet the dolphins and I've never

0:24:110:24:18

getting to meet the dolphins.

0:24:220:24:24

Anna the vet give them a check-up.

0:24:240:24:28

The dolphin breathes slowly, like four times per minute.

0:24:520:24:56

We have to wait a little bit.

0:24:560:24:58

When he breathes, he opens the blowhole outside of the water.

0:24:580:25:02

How long can a dolphin stay underwater without breathing?

0:25:090:25:11

You need good lungs for that.

0:25:180:25:20

Meeting dolphins was a dream come

0:25:270:25:31

to play for one final treat.

0:25:320:25:35

it's treat time and you're playing

0:25:430:25:48

'Answer two questions correctly

0:25:530:25:57

'but get them wrong and your parents

0:25:570:26:01

'Question one, how did Mum describe

0:26:050:26:11

I remember her saying embarrassing.

0:26:170:26:19

Me too. Yeah. A, definitely.

0:26:190:26:23

Definitely. Agreed? Yeah. A.

0:26:230:26:26

I'd say that Dad's driving style was

0:26:320:26:37

'Well done, guys, that's brilliant.

0:26:390:26:41

'Get this next question right

0:26:410:26:45

'Let's see what your dad said.

0:27:270:27:29

a super hero in my wetsuit.'

0:27:290:27:33

I'm really excited to get on a jet ski and I'm going to go turbo fast.

0:27:390:27:45

I think the choice of holiday

0:27:540:27:58

because me and Eleanor got to do everything we wanted. Whoo!
