Hey, Lily-Rose, come over here a moment!

0:03:270:03:29

How's your nasturtiums doing?

0:03:290:03:32

Very well, thanks. Two of the buds haven't flowered yet.

0:03:320:03:36

-Remember when we planted the seeds?

-Yes.

0:03:360:03:39

What did you put in the pot to plant them in?

0:03:390:03:42

Soil.

0:03:420:03:43

I remember you enjoyed filling up the pot.

0:03:430:03:46

Yes, but that's not mud! It's soil!

0:03:460:03:49

But they're very similar!

0:03:490:03:51

TICK-TOCK

0:03:510:03:53

CLOCK: Special report! Special report!

0:03:530:03:56

-Jelly's special report for us!

-Is she at the mud festival?

0:03:560:04:00

No, I don't think so. She's going down to the river!

0:04:000:04:04

This is special reporter Jelly reporting for Green Balloon Club,

0:04:110:04:15

and I'm going to have a picnic down by the river!

0:04:150:04:19

I like having picnics by the river,

0:04:190:04:21

because I get to see lots of wildlife!

0:04:210:04:24

I'd better not be late! Off I go!

0:04:240:04:26

Oh! You can come too, by the way! Come on!

0:04:260:04:30

Oh, hello, Finlay! Hello, Gavin!

0:04:360:04:40

-Hello, Jelly!

-Are you playing with those sticks?

0:04:400:04:43

-Yes! Would you like to play too?

-Yes, please!

0:04:430:04:47

We drop our sticks in, run to the other side,

0:04:470:04:50

then the water carries it over there,

0:04:500:04:53

and then we see who's the winner, and comes out first.

0:04:530:04:56

That sounds like fun! Can I have a stick?

0:04:560:04:59

OK. Let's go!

0:04:590:05:01

Quick! Let's go see who won!

0:05:060:05:09

Oh! Oh, whose is it?

0:05:090:05:11

Oh, you've won, Finlay! Oh, yeah! Well done!

0:05:110:05:16

-Would you like to play again, Jelly?

-Yes... Oh no, I can't!

0:05:160:05:20

I've got to go for my picnic. Do you want to come too?

0:05:200:05:24

We'd love to come. Do you want to come on the boat with us?

0:05:240:05:27

-Yes, please! That would be wonderful!

-Come on! Let's go!

0:05:270:05:31

Oh! So here we are on the boat! I can't believe it!

0:05:310:05:36

We're hopefully going to see lots of wildlife and nature and animals!

0:05:360:05:40

We just have to do lots of spotting.

0:05:400:05:43

-Look! Can you see over there?

-What is it?

0:05:450:05:47

It's the baby swans! It's the cygnets! Can you see them?

0:05:470:05:51

Yes! And they're with their mummy and daddy, aren't they?

0:05:510:05:56

They're all fluffy, aren't they?

0:05:560:05:59

Jelly, can you see anything that I can look at through my binoculars?

0:05:590:06:03

Look! Look over there! What are those yellow flowers?

0:06:030:06:07

-That's marsh marigold, that is!

-Oh!

-They're related to buttercups.

0:06:070:06:13

I love buttercups!

0:06:130:06:15

If you look up in the sky,

0:06:150:06:16

can you see the house martins scooting about?

0:06:160:06:19

Yes, I can see them!

0:06:190:06:21

-There's a cormorant flying by in the sky.

-I saw it!

-I saw it!

0:06:210:06:27

Oh look, it's the baby coots!

0:06:270:06:30

There's mummy and daddy there as well!

0:06:300:06:34

-What can you see?

-I saw it!

-I saw it!

0:06:360:06:39

THEY LAUGH

0:06:390:06:41

It's so much fun!

0:06:410:06:43

The riverbank is the perfect spot for a picnic, isn't it?

0:06:460:06:50

-What's your favourite animal, Finlay?

-I like seeing the ducks!

0:06:500:06:55

We did well spotting them.

0:06:550:06:57

I think we should have some cake to celebrate!

0:06:570:07:00

Off you go, tuck in!

0:07:000:07:02

BUZZING

0:07:020:07:03

It looks as though all the flies have come to join us, as usual!

0:07:030:07:08

They're all over the place!

0:07:080:07:10

Ha! Silly flies!

0:07:100:07:12

And now the flies have buzzed off, it's time for me to buzz off too!

0:07:120:07:17

Thank you very much for taking me on your boat down the river!

0:07:170:07:21

BOTH: Bye-bye, Jelly!

0:07:210:07:24

This is special reporter Jelly reporting for Green Balloon Club,

0:07:240:07:28

all about the wildlife that lives by the river!

0:07:280:07:32

And I've enjoyed a tasty picnic too.

0:07:320:07:34

Back to you in the Green Balloon! Up, up, and away!

0:07:340:07:38

# What a difference a day makes

0:07:430:07:50

# 24 little hours

0:07:520:07:56

# Brought the sun and the flowers

0:07:590:08:03

# Where there used to be rain

0:08:070:08:12

# My yesterday was blue, dear

0:08:150:08:20

# Today I'm a part of you, dear

0:08:220:08:27

# My lonely nights are through, dear

0:08:290:08:35

# Since you said you were mine

0:08:370:08:43

# Oh, and what a difference a day made

0:08:430:08:49

# And the difference is you

0:08:510:08:59

# Is you... #

0:09:000:09:03

-Do you know what this is, Lily-Rose?

-A wormery!

0:09:130:09:18

-And do you know what's inside it?

-Worms, of course!

0:09:180:09:21

That's right! Do you know what they're doing?

0:09:210:09:24

Mmm...no.

0:09:240:09:26

They're working away at our vegetable scraps to make compost.

0:09:260:09:30

Would you like to see them?

0:09:300:09:32

Maybe...

0:09:320:09:34

Mmm.

0:09:450:09:46

There.

0:09:510:09:53

Ooh, it stinks. Look, Ant, I found one!

0:09:530:09:57

It's a red one.

0:09:570:09:59

You're right!

0:09:590:10:02

-Is it worm poo?

-No, Lily-Rose, it's compost!

0:10:020:10:06

I think I'm going to wash my hands.

0:10:060:10:09

Oh no! She still doesn't like mud.

0:10:090:10:14

In the far north of Britain, along the west coast of Scotland,

0:10:160:10:21

there's a very secretive and lovable creature that lives by the sea.

0:10:210:10:26

I'm an otter, and this is my baby cub!

0:10:280:10:31

My baby otter cub is only nine months old,

0:10:340:10:37

and already she is almost as big as me!

0:10:370:10:41

She is also very playful.

0:10:410:10:43

For the next few months or so, she'll stay very close to me,

0:10:480:10:52

so I can teach her how to fish for our food!

0:10:520:10:56

We go everywhere together, and we are always side by side.

0:10:560:11:01

I know all the best places for finding fish.

0:11:040:11:08

Look how I dive. I use my long tail like a rudder to swim underwater.

0:11:080:11:13

My cub watches every move I make.

0:11:140:11:17

It's not long before she catches her own fish!

0:11:170:11:21

We use our paws to hold our supper tightly.

0:11:250:11:28

Trying to hold on to slippery fish is no easy job!

0:11:280:11:32

When we're not fishing, we like to groom each other.

0:11:360:11:40

It's important to make sure our fur is in tip-top condition.

0:11:400:11:44

In the cold water, our special fur coat keeps us warm and snug.

0:11:440:11:48

We have an outer layer of fur that gets soaking wet.

0:11:490:11:53

Yet underneath, we have thick, dense fur that stays nice and dry.

0:11:530:11:57

That's how we can swim in the sea, no matter how cold it is.

0:11:570:12:01

Amazingly, we hunt for fish even in the most stormy of weathers.

0:12:010:12:07

We have to, or we would go very hungry.

0:12:070:12:10

In the next few months, my cub will be old enough to fend for herself,

0:12:110:12:15

and she will find a new home along the coast.

0:12:150:12:18

Until that time, I'll raise my cub.

0:12:180:12:20

I'll teach her all the skills to become a grown-up otter.

0:12:200:12:24

Maybe she'll form her own family!

0:12:240:12:26

As the sun goes down, there's time for one more dip in the sea.

0:12:260:12:31

See you!

0:12:310:12:33

Otters are really amazing, aren't they? Have you ever seen one?

0:12:380:12:43

No, they're pretty rare.

0:12:430:12:45

I bet they like the mud.

0:12:450:12:47

Yes, I'm sure they do. They live by the water in quite muddy places.

0:12:470:12:51

I wonder if we asked Sky if she'd let us play with some mud?

0:12:510:12:55

I'll go and ask her!

0:12:550:12:57

I've found some Green Balloon Club members!

0:12:570:13:00

-Is it the mud festival?

-It doesn't look muddy down there.

0:13:000:13:04

BOTH: Hello!

0:13:040:13:07

-BOTH:

-Hello!

0:13:070:13:09

BOTH: Hello!

0:13:130:13:16

This week, we're spotting elderberries!

0:13:160:13:19

Let's get spotting!

0:13:190:13:22

Elderberries grow in little bunches, on elder trees and bushes.

0:13:220:13:29

They grow along paths and streams.

0:13:290:13:33

The leaves on elder trees have jagged edges.

0:13:330:13:37

The berries come in the autumn!

0:13:370:13:39

They're green, and then light purple and then dark purple.

0:13:390:13:44

The green ones aren't ripe, but the purple ones are!

0:13:440:13:49

There is a seed in each berry.

0:13:490:13:52

Birds and other wildlife like to eat them.

0:13:520:13:55

The seeds can grow into new elderberry trees.

0:13:550:13:58

It's very important not to pick any berries or eat any berries

0:13:580:14:03

unless a grown-up says it's safe.

0:14:030:14:05

So, remember the clues!

0:14:080:14:11

The elder tree has jagged leaves.

0:14:110:14:14

The berries grow in the autumn.

0:14:140:14:17

And they are dark purple when they ripe.

0:14:170:14:20

Now, why don't YOU spot some?

0:14:200:14:23

BOTH: Bye!

0:14:230:14:25

Bye!

0:14:250:14:26

And thanks for this week's Spot!

0:14:260:14:28

If you manage to spot some elderberries where you live,

0:14:280:14:32

you can earn a green star for your scrapbook!

0:14:320:14:35

You can find all our Spots on our website.

0:14:350:14:38

But first, to get on to our website,

0:14:390:14:42

you need to know the secret picture password,

0:14:420:14:45

and this week, we've got a choice between the otter and the duck!

0:14:450:14:50

And which one would you choose?

0:14:500:14:53

I think I'll try...

0:14:530:14:55

..the otter.

0:14:560:14:57

There!

0:14:570:14:59

And once you're here...

0:14:590:15:01

you can look at this section for this week's Spots!

0:15:010:15:05

You can watch the Spot again, and once you've spotted it,

0:15:050:15:09

you can add it to your online scrapbook!

0:15:090:15:12

ALL: We're ready!

0:15:120:15:14

Ta-da!

0:15:150:15:17

Now here's some mud that you CAN play with.

0:15:170:15:21

-JAY:

-But Sky, it looks like clay.

0:15:210:15:23

It is clay! Clay is a kind of mud from out of the ground.

0:15:230:15:27

-Are we going to some modelling?

-Yes!

-Great!

0:15:270:15:30

Right, now, everybody take a lump.

0:15:300:15:33

And put it down.

0:15:330:15:34

Make sure your hands are nice and wet.

0:15:340:15:37

And then smooth it into a big sausage shape.

0:15:380:15:43

And what we're going to do, is we're gonna make some seals.

0:15:450:15:49

So we need to make them a bit long.

0:15:490:15:53

-This is fun!

-It's all slippery and gooey.

-It's fun, isn't it?

0:15:530:15:59

Don't you want a go, Lily-Rose?

0:15:590:16:01

OK, everyone grab a knife.

0:16:020:16:04

And let's make some fins on the tail by just cutting the back like this.

0:16:040:16:10

It's lovely and gooey and messy.

0:16:100:16:14

-I like this because if you make a mistake, you can rub it out.

-Exactly!

0:16:220:16:27

It's so fun!

0:16:270:16:28

I'm gonna try and make a bit more of a shape for its head.

0:16:330:16:37

I'm going to lift the head up so they can look up a bit...

0:16:390:16:45

You really push it on, cos it's so slippery!

0:16:470:16:52

-We should give ours a face, shouldn't we?

-Yes.

0:16:540:16:57

Yours is looking really good, Jay.

0:16:570:16:59

Thanks, Sky.

0:16:590:17:01

And we're gonna give it a cute little nose.

0:17:010:17:05

And they've got whiskers as well, don't they?

0:17:050:17:08

I think I should make some flippers so that my seal can swim.

0:17:080:17:13

So we'll give it two cuts here...

0:17:130:17:18

Do the flippers have any patterns on?

0:17:180:17:21

You could put some on yours if you like.

0:17:210:17:24

That's a good idea.

0:17:240:17:25

Whoops!

0:17:350:17:37

Very messy!

0:17:370:17:39

THEY ALL LAUGH

0:17:390:17:42

It's so gooey!

0:17:430:17:44

Seals have holes in their heads so they can hear,

0:17:440:17:47

so I'm gonna give mine some.

0:17:470:17:49

That's a good idea, Jay.

0:17:490:17:51

Lily-Rose, would you like a go?

0:17:510:17:54

Maybe.

0:17:550:17:56

-HORN

-Oh! I think we must be there!

0:17:560:18:00

LILY-ROSE: I'll go!

0:18:000:18:01

It is! It is! It's the mud festival!

0:18:010:18:05

And I spy some Green Balloon Club members!

0:18:050:18:08

-BOTH:

-Hello! Hello!

0:18:080:18:11

Hello!

0:18:110:18:12

-BOTH:

-Hello!

0:18:120:18:14

Today we've come to the Wetlands Centre at Llanelli

0:18:140:18:18

to take part in the Mud Festival.

0:18:180:18:20

Come on, let's go and have a look!

0:18:200:18:22

'There's so much to see and do here.'

0:18:240:18:26

-BOTH:

-Like welly-wanging!

0:18:260:18:29

'And mud sculpting.'

0:18:330:18:34

'Mud is soil that is soaked by water.'

0:18:340:18:38

We decided to take part in a mud safari.

0:18:380:18:42

We need to follow the flags.

0:18:440:18:47

Look, there's lots of mud here!

0:18:490:18:51

'It is important for plants

0:18:510:18:53

'because they get their food and water from the wet soil.

0:18:530:18:57

'I wonder if we'll spot any animals lurking in the mud?'

0:18:590:19:03

He's tickling me! He's tickling me!

0:19:040:19:07

'These are mud flats.

0:19:070:19:10

'They are very important for wildlife that lives here.'

0:19:100:19:15

'The mud provides food for the worms and shellfish that live there.'

0:19:170:19:22

Look, I found a crab!

0:19:220:19:25

'But it's not good for us to eat.'

0:19:250:19:27

'We've found a baby, a live crab.'

0:19:270:19:33

I've found some closed cockle shells.

0:19:330:19:35

You must always be with an adult.

0:19:350:19:39

Can't wait to get muddy!

0:19:400:19:43

-It's squidgy!

-And sticky!

0:19:430:19:45

What are you making?

0:19:450:19:47

A mud ball to chuck at you!

0:19:470:19:50

'Today our parents have let us get this muddy.

0:19:500:19:55

'Remember to check with them first.'

0:19:560:19:59

HE LAUGHS

0:20:000:20:01

Look at your face! It's so muddy!

0:20:010:20:04

It's nearly time for us to say goodbye.

0:20:130:20:15

Not before we've had a go at mud sculpture!

0:20:150:20:18

We've built the Green Balloon!

0:20:380:20:40

Thanks for visiting us today!

0:20:400:20:42

-BOTH:

-Goodbye!

0:20:420:20:45

Bye-bye!

0:20:450:20:48

-That looked like such fun!

-I love mud!

0:20:480:20:52

-So do I!

-Lily-Rose, look at you!

0:20:520:20:57

I made a worm!

0:20:570:20:58

Lily-Rose, it's lovely!

0:20:580:21:00

But we'd better get you cleaned up!

0:21:000:21:02

There's no time for that now, because we're coming in to land!

0:21:020:21:07

And whenever we land, it's...

0:21:160:21:18

ALL: ..time for a song!

0:21:180:21:21

# Did you ever consider the miracle outside your window?

0:21:290:21:36

# Out in the fresh air Some rain and water

0:21:360:21:40

# A little sun will make you garden grow

0:21:400:21:43

# One magical tiny seed

0:21:430:21:48

# Will one day be food to eat

0:21:480:21:51

# Dig it

0:21:510:21:52

# Plant it

0:21:520:21:54

# Watering the seeds we sow

0:21:540:21:57

# Then we'll dig it

0:21:570:21:59

# Eat it

0:22:070:22:09

# Carrots, butternut

0:22:090:22:11

0:22:110:22:13

# From the earth to the table

0:22:130:22:17

# Full of vitamins, we love them so

0:22:170:22:20

# If you don't have a patch near you

0:22:200:22:24

# A window box or a pot will do, so

0:22:240:22:27

# Dig it Plant it

0:22:270:22:31

# Watering the seeds we sow

0:22:310:22:34

# Then we'll dig it Eat it

0:22:340:22:38

# Loving all the food we grow

0:22:380:22:42

# Dig it

0:22:420:22:44

# Plant it

0:22:440:22:46

# Watering the seeds we sow

0:22:460:22:49

# Then we'll dig it

0:22:490:22:51

# Eat it

0:22:510:22:53

# Loving all the food we grow

0:22:530:22:57

# Deep down the roots will grow

0:23:130:23:16

# Some green fingers it will show

0:23:160:23:19

# Dig it, plant it

0:23:230:23:26

# Watering the seeds we sow

0:23:260:23:29

0:23:410:23:44

# Then we'll dig it, eat it

0:23:440:23:49

# Loving all the food we grow. #

0:23:490:23:51

ALL: Bye!

0:23:510:23:53

Thanks for coming to fly with us today!

0:23:530:23:55

0:23:550:23:57

And see if you can get all muddy!
