Hello! We're wrapping up warm to go outside

and see some special weather.

Let's go outside and see.

It's snowing!

It only snows when the temperature is below freezing

which is really, really cold.

Water droplets in the clouds freeze into icy snow crystals.

The snow is really cold.

That's snow!

It's really fun playing with your friends and family in the snow too.

It's a snowball.

Snow's on my gloves.

Snow's on my feet.

I love the snow.

Look at the snow on that leaf.

The snow falls onto the garden and makes everything pretty and white.

Those birdies must be really cold.

The chickens will need looking after in this cold snow.

I found two eggs in the chicken hut.

Even the egg's got snow on it.

We like catching the snowflakes in our mouths.

Listen to it crunching under our feet.

You can really see our footprints.

There are so many fun things you can do in the snow.

A snowman!

A head.

Coal, for his nose.

I found two eyes.

I found a perfect twig for the smile.

He needs a hat.

Look at our cool snowman!

We hope it snows where you live so you can have as much fun as us.

This is special reporter, Jelly, reporting for Green Balloon Club

and today I'm in Southwark in London, hm.

I've come to help some friends take down their Christmas tree.

-Hi, Jelly.

-Hi, Jelly.

Hi, Jelly, come in.

Oh, look at your lovely Christmas tree, it's so pretty.

We're going to put it in the recycling.

Recycle it? Can't you plant it in the garden?

No, Jelly, cos it has no roots.

So how do you recycle a Christmas tree?

First we have to take off all the decorations.

Oh, I see, yes, all of them, can I help?

-Yes.

-Come on, let's start taking them down.

Oh, they're so pretty.

-Can I take the angel off the top?

-OK.

-Will you lift me up, Aaron?

-OK.

-Yeah.

So what do we do now we've taken all the Christmas decorations off?

Now we need to take the Christmas tree outside

so the council can pick it up.

Hello!

-Hello, Jelly.

-Have you come to collect our tree to be recycled?

Yes. You've taken off the decorations, brilliant.

What happens to it now?

Now it's off to the chipper.

-Chips! We haven't got any chips!

-No, Jelly.

-Not chips, a chipper.

-Oh.

-Come on, let's see what happens next.

-OK, this way.

-So this is a chipper?

-Yes.

-And this is Rob who'll be operating it.

-Hello, Rob.

-Hello, Jelly.

-So how does it work?

Well, the tree goes in there and it's chopped up into little bits

-and it ends up in the back of the lorry.

-Oh, wow.

-Let's see it then.

-You certainly can.

But you need ear defenders and glasses cos it's noisy.

I'm so excited!

I've got some trees collected locally.

-I think this is your one here.

-Oh, yes! Put it in!

It's going in!

Wow! Oh it's so noisy! Oh, look at it! Oh, it's spraying out!

So what happens to all these chippings over there now?

Some of them are piled up in large compost heaps along with

other garden waste like weeds and grass.

They naturally heat up and eventually break down into compost.

I've actually got some here, Jelly,

and it's ideal for mixing into the soil to give plants nutrients.

-Oh, so that compost is made of old Christmas trees.

-Yep.

-And it could be helped to grow new ones, couldn't it?

-Yep.

This looks interesting, Ant, what is it?

I thought we could make a New Year's picture for our scrap book.

So you've got all the seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter.

That's right and I've cut out lots of pictures and now all we need to do

is match the pictures to each season.

I see one already...

it's a daffodil, it goes in Spring,

because all daffodils grow in spring.

I can see something that goes in spring too.

Look, it's a lamb and it goes in spring

because lambs are always born in spring.

And I can see one more thing. Ducklings with a mother duck.

-Yes, cos ducklings are born in spring too.

-Yes.

Now we have to do summer.

Sunflowers. They are called sunflowers because summer and sun.

It's very sunny in summer, Lily-Rose.

Yes, that is true.

And look, seagulls.

I think the seagulls go in summer.

Cos in summer you go to the seaside and there's lots at the seaside.

Yes. And there's one more thing missing in summer.

-How about the butterfly?

-Yes, butterflies go in summer.

Now we've got two more seasons to go - autumn and winter.

I know, for autumn -

-how about a Halloween pumpkin?

-Yes.

-Halloween's in autumn.

-He looks scary!

-Woo-ooh!

Now, what else is in autumn?

Autumn leaves.

Yes, I think you're right.

And a hedgehog.

Because they like to hibernate in the leaves in autumn.

Yes, you're absolutely right.

And now winter.

I think it's got to be these three.

Do you know what this is, Lily-Rose?

It's a tree with snow on.

Yes, a very snowy tree, isn't it?

How about this one? A robin.

Yes, the robin. And I definitely think that the holly goes in winter.

Yes, me too.

Look - we've missed the squirrel.

Hmm...this is difficult, cos you can see squirrels all around the year.

Cat, which season do YOU think is best for a squirrel?

Well, you can see squirrels all year round,

but you mostly see them in autumn when they collect food for winter.

Then I think the squirrel must be in autumn.

Cat's Creatures.

It's autumn, the trees are changing colour

and there's a very cheeky creature busy amongst the fallen leaves.

I'm a grey squirrel, and at this time of year I collect lots of acorns

to store for the winter, when it's cold and there's not much food.

That's if the other animals don't get there first!

You see, jays like to eat acorns too.

Although, right now, I've got a more serious problem on my paws.

This crafty squirrel is watching where I store my acorns,

so he doesn't have to do any of the hard work!

Hey, you! Get your own nuts!

There's only one thing for it. If I PRETEND to bury some acorns,

that will put him off the trail.

That fooled him. And with enough food stored, there's time to play.

It's a good job that I prepared for hard times

because, as autumn becomes winter, and it gets colder,

there isn't much food around to live on,

apart from my hidden stashes, of course.

But it's difficult to remember where I stored my acorns and nuts.

There! Found some.

It's amazing, really, that I can remember.

It's such a big forest. It helps that I have a fantastic sense of smell,

so I can sniff out my tasty prize.

As well as being quite at home on the forest floor,

look out for me high up in the trees.

I'm very nimble and sure-footed.

You could say I'm the king of the canopy.

Look at my high-speed, tree-top manoeuvres.

I use my tiny feet to cling on and my big, bushy tail for balance.

So next time you're in the park, look out for my cheeky little face,

my big, bushy tail and my tiny little paws.

You might even see me storing my acorns for winter,

or jumping from branch to branch in the tree tops.

-Skipper loves squirrels, don't you?

Hello! Today we are spotting pheasants. Let's get spotting!

I can see one!

Pheasants are very beautiful birds.

The males are called cocks.

Look at those cock pheasants fighting.

The males have gold, sparkly feathers.

And long, long tails.

I've found some pheasant footprints.

They look like arrows.

Can you see that his head is a beautiful green?

He has a white collar.

And he's got red patches round his eyes.

To spot pheasants, remember these clues.

The colourful males with their green head and their red eyes.

The white collar round his neck.

And their arrow-shaped footprints.

-Why don't you spot some pheasants now? Bye!
