It's a brand-new term | 0:47:00 | 0:47:02
and CBBC have sent these four magicians back to school. | 0:47:02 | 0:47:06
They're pretending to be supply teachers so that they can perform | 0:47:06 | 0:47:10
amazing magic on unsuspecting classes. | 0:47:10 | 0:47:14
But because you know and love them, | 0:47:14 | 0:47:16
this time we've cunningly disguised them. | 0:47:16 | 0:47:19
This time it's Fergus. | 0:47:29 | 0:47:30
The disguise is on, the hidden cameras are set. | 0:47:30 | 0:47:34
He made it for his Year Six class. | 0:47:34 | 0:47:36
Today, we're going to be talking about cloning. | 0:47:36 | 0:47:40
Cloning is making an exact replica of an object or item. | 0:47:40 | 0:47:44
Everything in this room, | 0:47:44 | 0:47:46
everything around us has a molecular map like a code, right? | 0:47:46 | 0:47:50
If you can work out that code, | 0:47:50 | 0:47:52
then in theory you can replicate another object from nothing. | 0:47:52 | 0:47:55
For cloning to occur, you need two fundamental things. | 0:47:55 | 0:47:58
The first one is this is rather cool generator. How cool is that? | 0:48:00 | 0:48:05
Now this generator actually strips and defuses the DNA. | 0:48:05 | 0:48:11
The next stage is... | 0:48:11 | 0:48:13
to send that DNA along a wire. | 0:48:13 | 0:48:17
To a receiver which is here. | 0:48:17 | 0:48:20
This is my cloning cloth. | 0:48:20 | 0:48:22
What the receiver does, | 0:48:22 | 0:48:23
it takes the information which is processed by the generator, | 0:48:23 | 0:48:26
then it rebuilds it into a real object, an actual physical object. | 0:48:26 | 0:48:30
-So you will see on the table I've got an...? -Egg. -Good. | 0:48:30 | 0:48:35
If I place the egg onto the generator, | 0:48:35 | 0:48:39
turn the generator on. | 0:48:39 | 0:48:41
Now I program it to read the DNA of the egg. | 0:48:42 | 0:48:46
The machine is part of the magic. It cannot clone DNA. | 0:48:46 | 0:48:50
In fact DNA could stand for, | 0:48:50 | 0:48:52
Does Nothing Actually. | 0:48:52 | 0:48:54
Now if I take my cloning cloth... | 0:48:54 | 0:48:56
Check it out, the cloth is empty. | 0:48:56 | 0:48:58
..and I attach this wire. | 0:48:58 | 0:48:59
All I need to do now is press the transfuser. | 0:48:59 | 0:49:03
It sends the DNA it's processed all the way along to the cloning cloth. | 0:49:03 | 0:49:09
If we wait just the right amount of time... | 0:49:09 | 0:49:12
..incredibly, we end up with an identical egg. | 0:49:15 | 0:49:22
-CHILDREN: -Whoa! | 0:49:22 | 0:49:25
How great is that? | 0:49:25 | 0:49:26
Now, if you leave it for just a moment to set, | 0:49:28 | 0:49:31
you can actually reach right in and you will see | 0:49:31 | 0:49:35
it looks like a real egg, cracks like real egg, look at that. | 0:49:35 | 0:49:39
But obviously, once is OK, | 0:49:39 | 0:49:41
but what if I could do it again? | 0:49:41 | 0:49:45
All I need to do is attach the wire again. | 0:49:45 | 0:49:48
Press the transfuser - it sends that information | 0:49:48 | 0:49:51
along to the cloning cloth. | 0:49:51 | 0:49:53
When I take the wire off, we get another egg. Isn't that crazy? | 0:49:53 | 0:49:59
Now, we are going to try and do this with another small item - a toy car. | 0:50:02 | 0:50:06
So we are going to change that with the egg. The egg can go away. | 0:50:06 | 0:50:11
I put the egg away. | 0:50:11 | 0:50:13
I place the toy car onto the generator. | 0:50:13 | 0:50:16
We program the machine to read the molecular structure of the car. | 0:50:16 | 0:50:21
Then we attach the wire to the cloning cloth, just like before. | 0:50:21 | 0:50:24
Press the... Can anyone remember the name of the button? | 0:50:24 | 0:50:27
-Transfuser. -Excellent. | 0:50:27 | 0:50:30
That information travels along to the cloning cloth | 0:50:30 | 0:50:33
and we now have a... | 0:50:33 | 0:50:35
toy car. | 0:50:35 | 0:50:37
Oh! | 0:50:37 | 0:50:39 | |
-How incredible is that? -But here comes the most amazing magic. | 0:50:39 | 0:50:43
Do you remember I said this wasn't a sophisticated piece of machinery? | 0:50:43 | 0:50:48
So do you know what the strangest part is? | 0:50:48 | 0:50:51
-Everything's gone. -Ohhh! | 0:50:51 | 0:50:55
Who enjoyed that experiment? | 0:50:55 | 0:50:57
Me! | 0:50:57 | 0:50:59 | |
This lesson has been unforgettable. | 0:50:59 | 0:51:01
But there is one last trick. | 0:51:01 | 0:51:04
And... Oh! I forgot to mention one more thing! | 0:51:04 | 0:51:06
I didn't have the original machine. | 0:51:06 | 0:51:08
I actually had a clone of the cloning machine. | 0:51:08 | 0:51:10
Do you remember what happened with all the items in the box? | 0:51:10 | 0:51:14
It is exactly the same with the machine. Watch. | 0:51:14 | 0:51:17
-That vanishes as well. -Oh! | 0:51:17 | 0:51:20
Incredible! | 0:51:20 | 0:51:21
And now it is time to fess up. | 0:51:21 | 0:51:23
Now... | 0:51:23 | 0:51:25
I have a slight confession. | 0:51:25 | 0:51:27
My name isn't even Mr Robinson. | 0:51:27 | 0:51:30
And all of you have been set up by your teachers, by your headmaster, | 0:51:30 | 0:51:33
by your family, by your friends. | 0:51:33 | 0:51:36
You're all being filmed right now for CBBC. | 0:51:36 | 0:51:40
There is a hidden camera there! SHOUTING | 0:51:40 | 0:51:42
There is a hidden camera there for Help! My Supply Teacher's Magic! | 0:51:42 | 0:51:46
An amazing trick, and this class didn't realise. | 0:51:46 | 0:51:50
