So I've got on a Mexican sombrero,

a chef's uniform and football boots.

It looks like a flight suit and a pilot's helmet.

So what are we going to play today?

Yes, we're going to play pilots and fly a plane.

What do we need to know?

-SUSIE SPACESHIP:

-First of all, Sid, pilots fly aeroplanes.

Before flying, they must check the instruments in the cockpit.

The fuel gauge shows how much fuel the plane has on-board.

And the altimeter shows how high the plane is flying.

Pilots control the plane using a joystick.

The pilot pushes the stick to go down, pulls back to fly up

and side to side to tilt the plane.

Landing a plane is one of the hardest things pilot does.

On some stunt planes the front wheels must land first,

followed by the wheel at the back of the plane called the tail wheel.

Right, so that's everything we need to remember.

But do we need anything else?

A notepad. Well, I wonder what I'm going to need this for.

I guess I'll find out. So we've got everything we need, let's go!

I'm a bit of an expert when it comes to stunt planes.

Stunt planes? What are they?

Well, a stunt plane is a special kind of plane that does tricks.

You know, flies upside down, wriggles about a bit, that kind of thing.

Oh, flying upside down. Wow! That sounds like fun!

Anyway, I haven't seen anything that impresses me much so far.

Wow! Now, that is one way to make an entrance!

The joystick tilts the plane from side to side,

so if I push it to one side it will tilt the plane over.

So that is what I need to do, then. Right, here goes.

Whoa! Check this out!

Ha-ha! Yes!

So, we have gone to one side, let's see if we can go the other way.

Whoa! Ha-ha! Yep.

That works too. So we know how to go left and we know how to go right.

Let's see if we can take it all the way around. The barrel roll.

This is the big one but can he do it?

The best fun I've ever had!

Look at him go! That was a pretty tremendous barrel roll.

He passed that test with flying colours.

His barrel roll was very smooth and I can tell you,

I've seen quite a few in my time!

How do I actually land this plane on the ground?

I know. I remember, do you?

The front wheels must land first,

then the back wheel goes to the ground, the tail wheel.

So I need to push this joystick forward a little

to get the front wheels on the ground.

Right, pushing the joystick forward.

Right, yes. That's the front wheels down.

Now the back wheel.

Yes! I've done it!

We are safely on the ground and I did not need my parachute.

Well done, Pilot Sid. He landed his plane!
